- The Ace Attorney special stage skit from this year's Tokyo Game Show, featuring Phoenix and Maya meeting Ryuunosuke and Susato!
Subs use Japanese names due to some of the wordplay in the skit.

I've added subs to this, but retained the Japanese names for Phoenix and Maya. This is both to help with some of the jokes in the skit, and because Phoenix and Maya mention they played The Great Ace Attorney 2, which is clearly impossible if they're Americans.

No. Actually they're japanese. While the original Japanese versions of the games are set in Japan, the series' localizations are set in the United States, though retaining Japanese cultural influence.
I love when game companies made this kind of silly things ❤ But then I remembered DGS is still not localized and that makes me cry :(

Objection! Maya may have complained about them writing everything in Kanji, but the fact of the matter is that there is still a lot of Hiragana in their textboxes. Also, they have voices in this version; why would he need to read it?
I think "TV" and "anime" should be written on katakana (テレビ and ア二メ) but the text is written in hiragana. It's contradictory intentional because Phoenix ancestor (or should I say, Ryunosuke) doesnt know the meaning of it lol. Same with "orchestra".

What makes it even more funny is Phoenix and Maya use katakana, the writing system for foreign words to say 'television' and 'anime', which is the modern and correct way of spelling those words, while Ryunosuke and Susato use hiragana, the writing system used for native Japanese words because those things obviously wouldn't have existed during their lifetimes

There are a couple reasons that they used said 2d sprites:
1) It's one of the big jokes they were going for in this thing
2) phoenix and Maya are 9+ years older in their 3d models but they wanted "young" Phoenix and Maya to meet Ryu and Susato.
3) The Trilogy HD games are the most recent representations of young Maya and Phoenix and is what Capcom is really looking to get sales on from the Ace Attorney series right now (along with Dai Gyakuten Saiban 2 of course)
4) Nostalgia
5) Layton V Wright was a spin off soooooo it's iffy and is non-canon.

For all we know, Level-5 could have created the 3d mods of Maya/Phoenix in that game and thus Capcom would have to jump through some hoops to useit in that case, which simply isn't worth it for a joke video on youtube. Even if they could use those models though, the 3d models still don't represent the younger characters as much as the 2d sprites and the 3d models don't represent the original trilogy as much as the 2d sprites.
Imagine Asōgi meeting Miles, Gumshoe meeting Holmes, Payne meeting Payne, Pearl meeting Iris and Ema meeting Gina. They'd all be like "WHY ARE WE SO ALIKE!".

I love how Phoenix, Maya and the judge gets the the old 2D sprite because in terms of the game's release order stuff, they are much older than Ryuunosuke and Susato...
But in-game's timeline wise, Ryuunosuke and Susato are far older than they are, yet they are already in 3D 😂😂😂
