However I STILL don't accept that and rather just continue my own head canon that this series does not take place anywhere specific in the English release, ambiguously occurring somewhere in the western US but otherwise not having any geographic specificity. To me it's just "the city".

+Linkenski I beg to differ. The anime has shown to have bad animation on a number occasions. For example, there's Phoenix bike riding, which has very few frames of animation, showing how rugged it is. There's also the opening sequence in where everyone's running. Their running is undeniably choppy and awkward. In this video, the animation's very nice and smooth. Clearly a good amount of frames used. The animation seems to have no notable problems here.

Let's make this simple. -At the beginning,- or better executed, when you find Maya in PW: AA, Phoenix was 24, and Maya was 17. Add 10 to each and you.. kinda get their ages in PW: AA ~ DD. Maya is 28, not 27, and Phoenix is 34.. Maya, I know is no longer a teenager, but seriously, in PW: AA, I really wanna understand why Phoenix worries about Maya so much -- teenage girl who SHOULD be learning how to take care of herself -- especially in the Trilogy anime, that merges PW: AA, PW: AA ~ JFA, and *PW: AA ~ T&T.. *I'm not sure if T&T is in the anime.
I believe they got studio bones to do the anime cutscenes for AA6 and AA5. The same guys who worked on space dandy (and certain members who worked on well known amines like cowboy bebop, and full metal alchemist). While the anime is prduced by A-1 animation, the guys who worked on sword art online, and a shit ton of others. A-1 is really good at popping out several animes within only a few months, though at the cost of quality. Their basically the McDonald's of anime...

It's been said in the comments but Bones did AA5, A1 Pictures did the anime and AA6. As for the difference in quality between the anime and AA6, I suppose that's because the anime tends to be more rushed, considering it airs weekly while they had more time to work on the game. Plus, A1 Pictures can't afford to slack off on AA6's animation. If the anime's bad, the worst that can happen is a few disappointed fans. If they screw up the game itself, can you imagine the sort of backlash CAPCOM and A1 Pictures will get? That said, A1 Pictures did fix the opening from episode 4 onward so that's good.

I've only played the nds games but seeing this as an anime version is just so fulfilling to watch. I hope they animate all the ace attorney games this way. AA fans would really enjoy that. :)

The explanation that was eventually given is that the series is set in an alternate reality where early 20th century anti-Japanese immigrant regulations in California were never passed and that Japanese culture was allowed to flourish unabated, leading to stuff like Shinto practice being accepted in the culture.
However I STILL don't accept that and rather just continue my own head canon that this series does not take place anywhere specific in the English release, ambiguously occurring somewhere in the western US but otherwise not having any geographic specificity. To me it's just "the city".

+Linkenski I beg to differ. The anime has shown to have bad animation on a number occasions. For example, there's Phoenix bike riding, which has very few frames of animation, showing how rugged it is. There's also the opening sequence in where everyone's running. Their running is undeniably choppy and awkward.
In this video, the animation's very nice and smooth. Clearly a good amount of frames used. The animation seems to have no notable problems here.

I believe they got studio bones to do the anime cutscenes for AA6 and AA5. The same guys who worked on space dandy (and certain members who worked on well known amines like cowboy bebop, and full metal alchemist). While the anime is prduced by A-1 animation, the guys who worked on sword art online, and a shit ton of others. A-1 is really good at popping out several animes within only a few months, though at the cost of quality. Their basically the McDonald's of anime...

It's been said in the comments but Bones did AA5, A1 Pictures did the anime and AA6. As for the difference in quality between the anime and AA6, I suppose that's because the anime tends to be more rushed, considering it airs weekly while they had more time to work on the game. Plus, A1 Pictures can't afford to slack off on AA6's animation. If the anime's bad, the worst that can happen is a few disappointed fans. If they screw up the game itself, can you imagine the sort of backlash CAPCOM and A1 Pictures will get?
That said, A1 Pictures did fix the opening from episode 4 onward so that's good.
