I never understood that either. I only have one watch with a cyclops (Seiko SRPE37) and everytime it goes back in my rotation I instantly appreciate the magnification. I have never heard anybody complain about it on their Rolex Sub. Can i live without it? Sure, but i really do like a cyclops and the Monster in general is one of my favorite looking dive watches.
Watching this video with a SRP777 on my wrist. Great to see a Monster being reviewed in 2023! One of the few models that can only be admired by some for its quirks - a breath of fresh air honestly, from the conventional preferences that celebrate refined/luxury anything these days. Also, nice to see a fellow Malaysian watch lover, keep making videos of watches!
Seiko Monster 1st gen owner, bought new and still rocking it until today since 2007 or 2008. Can’t remember exactly which year. Still searching for the box and receipt buried under some old stuff. 😅 This watch still brings smile on my face when wearing and checking it in broad daylight or in total darkness.
That was a breath of fresh air 👌🏻! Really enjoyed this review. Your light approach is very appealing, and the editing is excellent. I’m glad I stumbled upon this channel 🤗. BTW, watching this while wearing my beloved Seiko save the ocean king samurai dark manta special edition (Seiko naming🙄😂). Just switched today from a nato to its original rubber band 💙. Keep it going. You’re style is very cute.
I have a 160mm wrist and it wears on the big side, but actually fine. The lugs angle downward sharply so there’s no overhang. The stainless steel colour bezel helps makes the watch appears smaller visually as well. If you want a reasonable size watch that doesn’t stand out, this is probably too big. But then again, if you want a more understated watch, you wouldn’t be looking at the monster to begin with
It appears that your date magnifier is already scratched. I used Diamond Paste to repair mine after a brass button on a jacket sleeve attacked the magnifier. The magnifier at least should have been made with Sapphire.
Wow! Totally awesome watch! I'm putting the Penguin on my list of "gottagits". Penguins are probably my favorite birds. So formal, so friendly. So comical out of water. So graceful underwater. And this Seiko is to die for. I've always kind of ignored Seiko divers. Orient seemed to offer the same or similar quality at a much more budget-friendly price. I've got the Orient Triton/Neptune and figured I would never need another diver. But ... now I'm rethinking. Great video, as always.
Awesome review Ashley . I own this watch but the made in Japan 🇯🇵 model SBDY115. I also own the SBDY105 Save the Ocean Antarctica Monster as well. Both are amazing 🤩 Seiko divers and for the price probably the best and most beautiful dials you’ll ever see on a watch . I own the SRPE39J1 Manta Ray King Turtle 🐢 as well and another stunning dial . Almost Grand Seiko dial quality 👍🏻💯
I have daylight version. It was hard to choose between night and day version, but I choose the day because blue to teal colour can easily find that blue to white Still I prefer to see whole penguin than only their feet, but I have chosen
I just ordered this for my first watch. Ive spent a lot of time researching before my buy and slept on it for a few nights. Id like to add a perspective on the candy bar magnification. I thought about it and even though it will be useful when my eyes get bad. I’m choosing to replace the whole hardlex with a new sapphire double dome. If seiko made this with a sapphire dome and the candy bar thing was on it i wouldn’t mind at all. Just a newbie.
Great review! Couldn't agree more on the dial. It's beautiful. I've got the tuna version and find myself still gravitating to it at least once a week 🙂
Thanks for your kind words! I really appreciate the introduction to the Ginault Silent Service brand. It's my first time hearing about it, and I'm liking it so far from my first impression
I have a small collection of Monsters - some Gens 1,2 and a 4. When the Gen 4 showed up I immediately hated the huge cyclops which distorts a large portion of the dial if not viewed dead on. So I changed the crystal. Problem solved. If one wants hand winding and hacking in a Gen 1, the movement can be swapped out for an NH35.
Own this the same watch. I bought it due to the dial, but after wear it for few time still prefer to wear my manta Ray king turtle. I got 18cm wrist, this watch wear just nice. From picture it do looks chucky, but in person is not. Might thinking to sell of this Monster STO
It's not easy paying $550 foe mineral crystal and stamped clasps . I bought a Heimdallr monster homage which just has a skeletonised shark logo. It has a white frosted textured dial with saffire crystal , milled clasp for $130. I really love Seiko but not the prices and cheap materials. I will buy a Seiko monster when I see my dial . Blood red .
Maybe your best video, Ashley! Very well-done!
wow, thank you so much :D
Not sure why people hate the date /day magnification. Easier to read. Do people hate the date cyclops on Rolex? I think not.

People who are jealous of Rolex hates that because it reminds them of it.
I hate cyclops, Rolex or not. Not only it is ugly, but the edges of the cyclops catches dirt so easily.
I didn't think it was possible to make such a BEAST of a watch so dang adorable 😂😂
Save the ocean is the most beautiful monster series!

Thanks Keith, yeah the only gripe i have about this watch is that it's too big for me, but the dial is really stunning

I have a 6.5 inch/ 16.5 cm wrist. It wears fine on my wrist. It's not bad at all. I enjoy mine a lot!
Very good info.. keep it up 👍🏻

Nice thorough review, amazing. I noticed that you don't wear a watch. What's your daily driver.
You noticed! I realized that too upon editing, that I wasn't wearing a watch. Currently I've been enjoying my newly bought CasiOak :)
I love your passion
Nice review. I have one dive watch in my collection it’s a Ginault Silent Service. The size and comfort made it my favorite.
Thanks for your kind words! I really appreciate the introduction to the Ginault Silent Service brand. It's my first time hearing about it, and I'm liking it so far from my first impression
Price has dropped to $400 in most places
I still have my orange 1st gen..this is next level..❤
whoa...
Good job, and I like the bracelet too
Love this video!! I am actually contemplating getting the SRPG57. What are your thoughts on that?
Subscribed! Very knowledgeable video.

Do review on the seiko yellow fin tuna SPRE87K1 😬
Nice video, I got this in Japan and then gave it to my dad for daily wear since his wrists are bigger than mine 😂
Cool watch
Hello from Singapore. Could you also talk and present watches from Sea-Gull?
Hello! Maybe one day, I'm still thinking whether to get one of those
Nice review!
