these are the only pickups i use in my acoustics now, the fidelity and tone from the sa6 is just awesome. they are so versatile and easy to use, i can't recommend any other acoustic pickup as much as this one. try one out!
Great review! For me, I love hearing demos like this that show what a pickup can do musically. While it's nice to hear the different elements isolated, we will all have our own specific blends; you know, YMMV? Yeah, I too got lost in the music, but I think that's the point. That pickup has allowed James to create great music. Who cares if he added some reverb, what he showed is that he can make his plugged in guitar sound awesome! Besides, I don't know of ANY gear that you "just plug in and go." You tweak it, adjust EQ, adjust whatever elements need to be balanced on both the instrument and the amp or DAW. The pickup shouldn't get in the way, and it's clear that this doesn't at all. Great job, and GREAT playing!
The blended tone almost gives a classical guitar effect. I like it. There is a You Tube comparison video that stacks the Duncan up against the LR Baggs "Anthem" and it fairs extremely well. The Anthem is the pickup Larrivee' uses as their "Stock" pickup.
That really sounds great. To me, picking up the actual tone generated inside the guitar is what it is all about with acoustics. A straight magnetic pickup on an acoustic is really no different from a regular electric guitar. I have the L.R. Baggs Anthem permanently installed into a Fender T-Bucket (the cheap $300 Asian model) and I am quite happy with it. I have acquired an Ibanez Lonestar LS300 and I was pondering another Anthem for that but I believe I am going to give this a try. If it's not too much more money than the Anthem. More later, gotta shop!
James thanks so much for the great demo. Just listing the Magnetic on its own sounds a little electric to me but that's ok as well. Nice balanced sounds on the high strings which is always the problem with under-saddle pickups. The mic makes a good difference but personally, I think the Fishman RE is more acoustic although this one your using would be great for Jazz I think. Thanks, James for the demo.
By far the best acoustic guitar sound I ever heard, and I've been listening to a lot of youtube demo videos. I never liked the sound of a piezo pickup - it sounds unnatural, buzzy, fuzzy. My next guitar will almost certainly have a sound-hole pickup. Some built-in pre-amps have a jack for a second pick-up to avoid the long cord - I'll try to find one of those. I wonder how much of the sound is the guitar itself? Anyway, thanks for the demo.
Hi , having made a number of Weissenborn style #1 it's very easy to identify what is it's own natural sound . If you want independent opinion contact Tim Hulsman or Hulsman Music . Tim used my personal model for about 2 years both performing AND recording in the studio on 2 albums . Tim also plays a square neck resonator which he is equally as good or better with. I am currently building 2 square neck resonators which will have photos on my website : Southern Slide Guitars. Cheers
hey man, that is truly one of the best tunes ive heard in a long time, i would truly appreciate it if you were willing to send me the chords or do a video lesson on this track, great playing.
the pickup sound amazing, i don't think that there is difference between it and the preinstalled ones that comes with certain guitars, great video mate.
I agree beautiful playing - but where did that accompaniment come from part way through demo? Muddies the intent of truly demoing the product. Also, was the room mike on during the playing (the mike used for voice)?
sounds amazing Wow and great playing all over, are you using the same set up ( I'm guessing yes ) for the recorded track you are playing along with ? does the chord ever get in the way of the High E string ? Great Demo Thanks
Hi James. I have a mag mic too and i'm very happy with that. what's your reccomendation about the best suited preamp for this complex pickup? sometimes it's tricky to balance harshness with high level mic input.
Nice playing and interesting pickup. Might be my laptop's speakers (or alas my ears) but it sounds more 'electric' when you blend in the mic, I was expecting the opposite.
I am in a worship band at church james ryan i have a jasmine guitar and im looking to get a pick up for it because i wand it amplyfide which do you prefer i use this is my first ever getting a pick up and i am on a budget
those strings look really comfortable and easy to bend..care to tell me what those are? or u r just using a lower tuning? or you do finger push ups everyday..? XD
It doesn’t really sound like an acoustic with that pickup. Shame, as normally rate Seymour Duncan. In fact, the sound is a good one, if it were a big body semi Jazzer, but it ain’t. Hey ho. Great playing in the vid and shows this pickup can do some great stuff, even if it isn’t what I would want.
To all the Turd satchels ridiculing this guy, I ask, Where is YOUR superior demo of a product ??? I know the vid. Is 4 years old, but this guy represents the device in a very good way..
Hey man, who are you trying to fool? You had two guitars going at the same time. Nobody's that good. LOL I think you just sold me on this pick up. Hopefully it will make me play like you.
Jack Reavy Only the mic would pick up a signal on a classical guitar (no signal for magnetic pickup), so this pickup is only suited for steel string instruments.
If you really want to demo' the pickup sound, why don't you deep 6 the reverb? I can add reverb in my head, it's another thing to try to imagine the sound without it. Just my 2 cents.
Some musicians should learn the difference between a product demonstration and a musical performance. Some people understands how to do both at the same time, this guy didn't. Why doesn't he let us listen to the pickup mag+mic BEFORE starting a loop?
Oh Billy boy...Yeah it's not my best slide work but it's there to demonstrate the sound of the pickup NOT my slide chops. Intonation is pretty good though. I suppose I should have just taken the easy route and used an open tuning. Anyway thanks for your eloquent criticism.
+Billy Garrison I think it was pretty decent! musicians should not talk crap about other musicians... cool demo... now i know what to expect from the pup! (witch is the whole point of the video)
I've been listening to a ton of pickup demos and this really a great tone. Great playing and demo, man. Thanks. :)
Exceptional review and playing! Love the sound of the pickup
Great demo and playing, thank you James!!
All the best from Germany
fantastic sound and great guitar playing
congrat for that playing so clean and spontaneous flouud of sound .super merci .
Wow, really amazing. As just a pickup without the mic component dialed in, it sounds a lot like an archtop.
Thanks. Hmm, never really thought about it in that way . Interesting !
these are the only pickups i use in my acoustics now, the fidelity and tone from the sa6 is just awesome. they are so versatile and easy to use, i can't recommend any other acoustic pickup as much as this one. try one out!
I came to listen how the sounds like with this pickup and I can't stop to listen you playing. Sorry my english. You are awesome player!

wow, impressive kit and well done review, thanks!
Epic playing mate!
The blended tone almost gives a classical guitar effect. I like it. There is a You Tube comparison video that stacks the Duncan up against the LR Baggs "Anthem" and it fairs extremely well. The Anthem is the pickup Larrivee' uses as their "Stock" pickup.
Yes this is perfect, I'm sold on this.
Love your playing, James
Geoff Wales Thankyou mate. Have you checked out my album "Twelve Tall Tales"?? (itunes) Not very acoustic, but very ROCK!
Will do
+james ryan listen i jizzed my pants mate......what is this song

came here to see how the pickup sounds and got lost in that music.
yeah, and hear one sound at a time
Goddamn, great review and a phenomenal player.
Sounds great! Thanks

Damn he can make anything sound great

That´s a good demo!
Hi,
is it possible to directly plug the sound-hole pick up to the recording interface? (in my case i use a zoom H4n)
Cheers,
Sweet sweet music!
dude can play
+Sheree Pfeiffer oh yeah that slide was killer
I agree beautiful playing - but where did that accompaniment come from part way through demo? Muddies the intent of truly demoing the product. Also, was the room mike on during the playing (the mike used for voice)?
This is my pickup of choice - sounds like the guitar it's in if you use the mic.
sounds amazing Wow and great playing all over, are you using the same set up ( I'm guessing yes ) for the recorded track you are playing along with ? does the chord ever get in the way of the High E string ? Great Demo Thanks

Very nice!

Hi there, great tone. Is it possible to have separated outputs? Magnetic on one channel and mic on a separate channel?
Would they make a smaller one of these to fit in a ukulele sound hole?
God bless you for stopping by with this comment, and may your entire family prosper in every aspect
those strings look really comfortable and easy to bend..care to tell me what those are? or u r just using a lower tuning? or you do finger push ups everyday..? XD
James , can I ask what is that song , can you post a video tutorial for it ? Thank you
ok im sold
wish you did more strumming
Dude - you are amazing! Do you have an acoustic guitar album out?
Yeah sure , Tim has produced 4 or 5 albums now . Some really hot tunes all written by Tim . Check out Hulsman Music !
I like it
Great vid !!!
What strings do you use ?
Hi what's the best way to fit permanently thanks
Bravo ....woooo
Sold.
Where do you connect the port ? Does it need an amplifier too ?
Fantastic playing!! What type of preamp or other gear are you using to influence the sound?
no preamp . Just the ' Mag Mic ' and lead to a JAM 150 PA system . They are really cool and clean . Most natural sound we found so far .
Love*
the guitar you're using....give me the model and the factory's name!!! it has beautyful sound and your playng is very bluesy :')
wonderful your great whatever pu
Muy chingon ...
Hey can I ask what strings you use?
Does this work on nylon strings too?
Please tell us what song this is! Its amazing
Just something I made up - Thanks!
What genre of riffs would you say those were? I ,I've the sound!
Blues my guy
Hey, can I plug a soundhole pickup with a 5.5mm connector in my laptop so I can record the sound on my pC?
Sorry I have no idea ! I am not tech savvy by any means .
omg, it sounds great, better than those woody, right?, I wish I am rich so I can order one of these

Great playing in the vid and shows this pickup can do some great stuff, even if it isn’t what I would want.
Are these not available any more? They've disappeared off Amazon in the last 6 months :(
@ many thanks
Does it work on 12 strings guitar?
To all the Turd satchels ridiculing this guy, I ask, Where is YOUR superior demo of a product ???
I know the vid. Is 4 years old, but this guy represents the device in a very good way..
122Music1 i see nobody ridiculing him 🤔
Hey man, who are you trying to fool? You had two guitars going at the same time. Nobody's that good. LOL I think you just sold me on this pick up. Hopefully it will make me play like you.
do u plug this into a amp?
Does it need a preamp?
whats the song you played?
What strings do you use?
Sound hole is the way to go especially when you don’t want to ruin a custom Martin or something
Kinda sounds like eric gales version of little wing in the beginning
could i use this on a classical?
Jack Reavy Only the mic would pick up a signal on a classical guitar (no signal for magnetic pickup), so this pickup is only suited for steel string instruments.
Can you turn off the pickup and just have mic?
No, the magnetic pickup is always on. You can just add the mic: it's not a true blending system. Anyway, I love that pickup.
This sounds nice! It a very electric sound, not very acoustic.
there's two guitars on this, isn't there?
Some of the playing is over another acoustic track
What brand of guitar is that?
It's a Maton. Australian made
If you really want to demo' the pickup sound, why don't you deep 6 the reverb? I can add reverb in my head, it's another thing to try to imagine the sound without it. Just my 2 cents.
Pick up for gut strings? I thought only the mic would work here.
Maybe just looks like gut strings.
When blends in both...background rythym guitar appears unexpectedly🤣🤣🤣
Suraj Sunar it’s a really great pickup lol
Some musicians should learn the difference between a product demonstration and a musical performance. Some people understands how to do both at the same time, this guy didn't. Why doesn't he let us listen to the pickup mag+mic BEFORE starting a loop?
it works on eletric-acoustic guitar with bronze strings?
Yes, of course.
What mic are you blending with?
There is a mic in the pickup.
Don't have a store full of equipment, I don't need my accoustic to sound like my electric guitar.
Learn how to play slide before you give us a demonstration. Give us a break.
+james ryan great job.. love the demo
+Billy Garrison
Learn some manners
+Billy Garrison - You're an idiot. Instead of popping off maybe you should take the time out of day to help others instead of bad mouthing others
