    Probably the last comparison with the LCD-2 before the conclusion. Today we compare and contrast the D7200. Similarly priced, but with distinct sound signatures. Neither is better than the other. Which sound profile do you prefer?

    Another great review! The Denon D7200s are criminally under rated/ overlooked by most. I love them, they may be expensive but at least they have the good grace to feel expensive, being beautifully made with a luxurious feel. The sound is not particularly neutral but it is wonderfully enjoyable and I can listen to them all day. And I find them very comfortable, although not especially light I don't find them heavy on the head and clamping force is strong enough to feel secure without feeling like there is a lot of pressure. I rate them more highly than many headphones which win far more audiophile plaudits and the build quality and tactile feel shames a few much more expensive headphones.

      Hmmm...that's a bit difficult to say. I'm sure there are some that sound similar, but I can't think of any that sound exactly the same. The only headphones that jump to mind might be the T60rp, Amiron Home (though the Amiron has a greater treble emphasis), Audioquest Nightowl...

      Thank you! I'm reading through the RME manual now--which is actually more pleasant than I thought it would be. The THX manual is far less helpful, so I'm stumbling around trying to find all the functions. Head-to-head review will be in a few weeks when I understand what each can do. Spoiler alert, the RME is vastly more complicated but also much more user-friendly.

    Hey! Very nice review, thanks for that! I`m looking for new headphones for electronic music, so the 7200s seems to be very fitting right? :) But when you say rumbling, do they annoyingly vibrate?I`m also looking for a new headphone amp, since i have beyerdynamic 250 ohms. Do you have some recommendations for good power, too? I`m not that into headphone amps haha. Cheers from Germany

    • @NoThemeReviews
      @NoThemeReviews  3 года назад +2

      I rarely recommend headphones for a particular genre. That's a judgment call I can't make for anybody else. I'm sure the 7200 would sound quite good for electronic music, but there are many other options as well. By "rumbling" I mean the sub-bass detail and sound in the particular track I'm discussing. The rumbling can distort on some headphones, and when it does, I try to explain what I'm hearing. If you listen to The Border and The Beast from the Sicario soundtrack, you should get an idea of what I mean. The 7200 doesn't distort.
      As for an amp for the 250 ohm Beyer--there aren't many that won't work. Not know your sound signature preference or budget, I can only suggest the following options to research and consider: Schiit Magni, Monolith Liquid Spark, iFi Zen Dac or Zen Can, Monolith THX Desktop and THX Portable, Rupert Neve Headphone Amplifier, Drop 789, JDS Labs Element.

    I appreciate your A/B comparison. Now some Denon 電音 talk. Here in Europa the price difference between D5200 and 7200 is about USD 70. Thus, its not a matter of price. I have good memories as owner of a D5000, a pair that I lost fiver years ago. I have ordered Sundara partially based on your recommendations, but I miss my D5000 and consider getting a Denon as well, as a second pair of phones. Which one would you recommend for most genres with a focus on classic music, jazz and film music. Your D7200 review put a shadow on the Denon as 2 dimensional and speaker like rather than giving the illusion of you being in front of an orchestra. What about D5200 ?

    • @NoThemeReviews
      @NoThemeReviews  4 года назад +3

      The 5200 is a refinement of the 5000. I find the 5000 has looser bass and the 5200 is tighter and less bloated. Imaging is fairly similar between 5200 and 7200. The major differences are with treble and bass. We all have different interpretations of music, so my analysis might sound like what you don’t want from a headphone, but it might turn out that you might enjoy the sound. As you go up in price with the Denon, you get better detail and accurate response. The 9200 for example is rather different from the previous D-series headphones. It is the most accurate and neutral Denon I’ve heard.

      I’ve been thinking about getting a dummy head to show how headphones look...but I remind myself I’m the dummy. Anyway, you likely won’t have to adjust the length of the headband on either. The Denon are lighter and will probably be more comfy, but you might enjoy the larger earcups on the LCD2.

    Great review . One thing i wonder is what amp or what do drive my denon headphones. I currently have a dragonfly red and i would like to know what is better for this headphone. tiny bit on budget so maybe over 500 usd and does anyone know where to get headband cover and new ear puffs for denon d7200? because it hurts a little bit ontop of my head :D

    • @NoThemeReviews
      @NoThemeReviews  3 года назад +2

      Dekoni makes earpads for Denon headphones; you can probably also find something from Brainwavz. Headband padding is fairly easy to find on Amazon. As for an amp, the 7200 doesn't really need anything specific. The Dragonfly Red has a particular sound signature that you may not enjoy with the 7200, so switching to a more neutral source may be an option. You definitely do not need to go above $150-200, and anything above that range is not "better" in sound quality, just differently tuned or has more/less features.
      The Ikko Zerda, Topping NX4, iFi Hip Dac, Zen Dac, and Monolith THX Portable are just a few options

      @NoThemeReviews  Месяц назад

      No, probably not the D7200. The D2000 can be a real bass beast but you’ll need to amp it. V-MODA makes headphones specifically for bassy music, so that’s a good option.

      D9200, but not significantly more than the 7200. The 7200 has a bit more mid bass, while the 9200 has slightly greater treble clarity. The 7200 is a very good headphone. Unless the price for the two headphones is fairly similar where you are, the 7200 is a reasonable pick. It’s cheaper, sounds similar to the 9200, and has a more exciting bass emphasis-which might be your cup of tea.

    Hey. Is there any top closed back headphones from the author? I'm just now facing a choice: audeze lcd2 closed back vs denon 7200 at the same price. Preferably for rock and metal.
    I would like to know what the author thinks after time.

    • @NoThemeReviews
      @NoThemeReviews  8 месяцев назад +2

      Both are good for rock and metal, but if you want more sun-bass, then I’d say the D7200. Demon’s house sound signature leans more into upper-bass and mids, and has a warmer presentation. The LCD2 has a noticeable sun-bass roll-off and a very obvious 3-5khz boost that can be hard to endure if you are sensitive to sibilance.

    • @NoThemeReviews
      @NoThemeReviews  6 месяцев назад +1

      I’d say the D9200. Planars just do not replicate bass naturally. The decay is just a tad too fast, the presence of instruments not quite as thick as on dynamic drivers.

    • @CoffeeGameMovie
      @CoffeeGameMovie 6 месяцев назад

      @@NoThemeReviews Thanks for the response! I see, although read that the 9200 is tend to be too bright for some. I myself like maybe more the meaty, darkish, fast, snappy signature with present but tuned down high requencies. I say just maybe, cuz i dont know how irritating the highs on the 9200, i would say if its more harsh than on the HD600, it could be too much for me. I would not like brighter HP than he HD600. Just as a sound signature the 7200 would be closer to me than te 9200, but then the pure sound quality would be worse, i really curious to the 9200. Beside the Denons the LCD 2 CB is my dark horse, i really curious how it sounds, how is its famous soundstage. Nevertheless as a former HD600 listener, timbre is really important to me, so if u say that the LCD is the worst in that from the 3, i drop that from the game. Extra question: am i correct that for movies the LCD is the best by a mile? (cuz of the soundstage, immersion, laid back behavior)

    For me Denon all the way... i love their sound signature and not only on these D7200. I prefer their soft emphasis on the bass and their details in mids. Just perfect for my taste. I also have MM400... out of the box they sounded ok but after some burnout and pads replacement they do sound amazing. I used to own more Sennheiser headphones but got bored with their analytical / flat sound signature. They are good for studio work where Denon is better for pleasure from the sound.

    • @NoThemeReviews
      @NoThemeReviews  4 года назад +8

      The 9200 does all of that really well IMO. I was concerned it would sound too warm, but was pleasantly surprised it had excellent detail retrieval and tight bass. Indeed, it has noticeably different character from all previous versions-7200, 5200, 2000, 5000. Its a closer call between the 7200 and 9200, but the 9200 has just a bit more clarity and detail. Now, the bass isn’t visceral-not like the LCD-XC or ZMF Atticus. The mids are a bit forward and in my experience are very clear.
      Are you considering any alternatives?

      No Theme Reviews WOW a great speedy response thank you very much friend.
      I did try the Z1R’s (looking for a closed back set) and I was extremely unimpressed. SO SMOOTH they were and amazing extended bass but not really bright or any mid emphasis. Tried the Focal Clear this week, they scream class, VERY neutral IMO nothing stood out but just literally sounded “clear.” Boring IMO old classy man headphones but that’s just me, they truly were balanced neutral all around. You also couldn’t blast them loud the drivers reverberated if you did that and that was scary. I’m a rock guy so immediate return.
      Amazon.jp is a great place to get the Denons for a great discount compared to here in USA ~$1300 they were. HOWEVER, good thing I cancelled because I think there would have been warranty issues if I did that. So I did go ahead and re-ordered them from an authorized USA dealer. (:
      I plan on running them through an iFi Micro Black Label with my iPad Pro for now but may invest in a proper laptop for the sake of finding more music. Not sure yet. I also have the audio gd 11.38 Pro so I will run them through that first most likely.
      I could never justify making this purchasing unless I was rich but in my case headphones started my piano “career” so I owe this to myself haha. Although piano might not sound perfect on these headphones I am just excited that they are a great closed back can made from a quality Japanese manufacturer and my warranty and all just SO EXCITED THANK YOU

      Glad I could help! I think the 9200 has the right amount of treble sparkle while still delivering a tight bass response. Your ears become accustomed to a certain frequency response after listening to it that way for a while. You really need a day or two of listening before you lose this listening bias and you can compare them accurately. It's usually when you try to go back to your old headphones after listening to new ones for a day or two that you can really notice the difference. So if you wanna save some cash, just never try new headphones and just let your ears get accustomed to whatever you've already got lol.
