Incredible Meat Cleaver Restoration: Black Blade And Kingwood Handle!

- Today, we have an exciting project ahead: restoring this old meat cleaver. It looks like it has seen better days, but don't worry, we're going to restore it completely.
This meat cleaver was originally forged, giving it a unique history and quality. First, let's dismantle the old cleaver. The handle is completely eaten away by woodworms and unfortunately can't be salvaged. So, it has to go. However, the blade still has potential. I thoroughly sanded it down and then sandblasted it to remove rust and grime.
Next, I bluing the blade in four steps to prevent future rusting. Now it has a beautiful black/charcoal finish that not only looks great but also provides excellent protection.
Now onto the lathe. Here, I'm crafting caps for the new handle out of brass. Brass not only looks fantastic but is also very durable. The new wooden handle is made from Kingwood - a real standout! It's also created on the lathe and then rubbed with linseed oil varnish to protect and enhance its appearance.
Of course, precision milling is crucial. Everything needs to fit perfectly. A bit of concentration and a lot of patience are required.
Almost done! Now, let's put everything back together and ensure the meat cleaver feels good in the hand and is ready for use. It's always fascinating to see how restoration can transform an old, rusty tool into something beautiful and useful again.
That's it for today! I hope you enjoyed watching as much as I enjoyed restoring this meat cleaver. Don't forget to hit the like button and subscribe to my channel to catch all future projects. Until next time!

Seeing a steel lathe and tooling used for wood turning was definitely a first for me.
2:12 perfect asmr👌
*my ear dies*
The handle was the best part, the wood is a nice color
Thanks! 🐢
Yes, that wood is gorgeous! 😍
My boy turtle will never be forgotten 🗣️🔥💯
I might be wrong but I think cold bluing is not food safe.
Yikes, probably best to quench it in oil I assume to get that color
It isn't. Even trace amounts of selenium dioxide ingestion can cause severe trouble 😬
What would be the alternative?
Good god, snowflakes everywhere!!
50yrs from now no one will have a imune system to speak of..
He probably will not use that knife considering restoring is kind of hobby for him actually
Love seeing turtle. It’s been awhile. Nice work. ❤🐢
You do not want to use a cold blued knife for any type of food prep or gameprocessing.
OR PERIOD COLD BLUING LOOKS AWFUL

Great restoration! All processes are very well filmed. I involuntarily compare it with my restoration and realize that in many ways the course of my thoughts is similar to the course of thoughts of the author of this video) After all, I saw this film after I published my own restoration of a kitchen cleaver.
Yeah those wood holes are usually made by powder-post or furniture beetles
Beautiful cleaver Beautiful restoration good job well done
Maybe I'm just a bit odd....but I find watching lathe work like this to be extremely satisfying...😊
I hate to be "that person", I really do because it's your video and you can do whatever you please on your video on your channel. However, you were one of the few restoration channels that didn't do all the "fancy" transitions and different camera angles every 2.5 seconds and I greatly appreciated that.
The multiple changes is angles so rapidly, and "fancy" transitions and edits give me anxiety for some reason 😓.
Not telling you what to do, but I don't think you'll lose your audience by nixing the "fancy" edits and transitions.
Either way great restoration! 😊
Thank you for your feedback, it's really important for me to know what appeals to my viewers! I've actually gotten into the habit of using this cut more and more because I'm trying to attract new viewers with it, that's the reason for it. But I'll seriously think about your comment! ❤🐢
@@ForgottenShineRestoration I actually think your camera work is more polished.
@@ForgottenShineRestoration understandable, it's probably more of a me thing honestly. Multiple camera angles and changes withing a short amount of time make me anxious for some reason, but I'm probably just an anomaly 😅😅.
Your restorations are always great either way!
Beautifully well done. thank you for brightening my morning.
Thank you very much for your great comment! ♥️🐢
Beautiful job! I do think the blade should have been sanded to a shiny finish, especially because of your channel name, but I really loved what you did with the handle and the whole piece! New subscriber here!
Thank you very much and welcome! 🤩🐢
Wow, impressive. And the handle is the crown glory of it all.
I found a small cleaver that was sharpen by someone who knew nothing about doing so. It is lop sided. Doesn't cut straight down but curves on the way down.... all to say if you don't know how to do something ask.....
In next video: Turtle opens a butcher shop with all the knives you’ve restored
Such a great restoration as always
Thank you very much! 🐢
I would have preferred to see all the divots filled in. Nice handle though.
I decided to follow you cause your amazing skill and 9:01
🤪🐢 Thank you and welcome!

Finalizado e lindo❤
The face on the turtle 😂
🐢♥️
Nice 👍
Aquí, espectante, viendo tu vídeo.
Good job 👏👍👌❤️
Thanks! 🐢
Very good!
I'm from Americana SP Brasil.
Thank you! 🐢
I would have resin-stabilized the original handle.
Very good
Thank you! 🐢
Restaurado cutelo 🔪😉
love video
Gute Arbeit.
Nice😊
Thank you! 🐢
Perfección!
Great job. Liked and subbed.
Thank you very much and welcome! 🐢👑❤
Good camera work,
Thank you very much! ♥️🐢

Grazie per il tuo feedback! ♥️🐢
Could’ve used epoxy on the handle to salvage it by to each their own I guess lol
That handle turned out beautiful! Great job! Also, did you make any audio changes? For this video the audio seems louder
I also noticed that there is a lot more noise in the sound, which was definitely not what I wanted. I still don't know where it comes from...🐢
Cold bluing is not food safe. 👎
Exlant
Rip to that heat treat at the tip. Burnt that part bad
1:05 🤩😍🔥
3:45 HE SPOKE FOR THE FIRST TIME 😱🤯🫠
LOVE THIS VIDEO 🫶
10.00/10.00
Im slightly concerned at the level of aggressive and grating sound content in this video. Are we okay? Did something happen to turtle? 😂
I think the old handle could be stabilized with resin
Are you sure if that would have worked, it was really badly corroded...🐢
Hi... A little spoiled by this maintenance of the old chopper. The handle was salvageable, it was enough to harden, with a special chemical and there would be more of the original. Not a philosophy to make new ... But overall it came out OK. PS. Let's save the antiques...
👍👍👍
não sei como fazer
Beautiful handle for a sucky looking blade
Good video, but could do without the anti-ASMR filing of the tang at teh 2 minutes mark :/
This audio was awful.
Leave that cleaver with me for two days , and I'll have it sharp enough to shave with. You need to use Japanese Water stones of a minimum of 2000 grit just to get the steel to the point where you can put a proper edge on it. The blade wasn't sharp enough to be used on Tomatoes but the test of a cleaver is NOT vegetables, but MEAT and it should be sharp enough to leave no trace that it was cut by a cleaver. After cutting, you should be able to still see all of the individual fibers of the muscle tissue, when most cleavers aren't sharp enough but just leave a mess of the muscle fibers, like they were more squished apart than cut. All the blades in my house are THAT sharp and I maintain them that way, nothing is nicer than to be able to cut through everything you need to cook or otherwise prepare for meals than with a blade that is so sharp, that it cuts without any real effort. Any Chef will want his blades all that sharp and pay good money to have them that way. This is why Chef grade kitchen knives are always the single most important investment a Chef makes, and touching a chef's blades without his permission is tantamount to declaring war, "Touch my blades and you'll draw back a stump!" Thousands of dollars can be spent on top quality blades, the very best blades from Solingen Germany or some of the finest blade smiths out of Japan are most often what is desired by most professional cooks.

Don't like vids without turtle!
Name this video: Ugly and scratch
Jesus Christ is Lord, King and Our Savior!!
Edit the horrible sound of grinding next time...sheesh dude that was horrendous.
You should've chopped something much bigger. A watermelon or whole chicken or turkey would have been best.
Correct. If I'm. Wrong. Woodworm. ..are. In. Wood. When it's. A tree. ??/
Wood worm damage is often found in old wood pieces
Xresseannhudsnbvennilaewq.i.
Il manico non mi convince
The old handle was profiled better, besides, it's not food safe now
Ten tasak służy raczej do mięsa a nie do pomidorków.
Seen sharper knives at the general store
Already Seen so many restorations of this, kinda boring
Then stop watching them
*In all restoration services the subject uses gloves, expect a very amateur and poorly finished result*
tf you supposed to do handle rusted metal and chemicals with your bare hands?
