I don't know if you came across this in your research before starting intermittent fasting but it doesn't have to be from 2pm onwards. You can set your feeding window according to what works best for you and in fact some studies on intermittent fasting suggest that eating earlier in the day works better (which has been my experience). The earlier feeding time is meant to mimic the way our ancestors ate which was, in a very broad sense "during the day/when there was daylight" so you can also think of intermittent fasting not by an exact number of hours but from a "sunrise to sunset" perspective which also takes a lot of pressure off of the perceived strictness. Anyway, just wanted to give my 2 cents. It's really awesome when you're in tune with your body though because as soon as something's off you know exactly where to look. I really appreciate you for sharing that.
for spiritual reasons I switched from 5 years pescatarian to vegan 3 months ago, then after 2 weeks I cut off processed vegan foods, then one month ago I cut out added sugars, about 2 weeks ago I started to reduce my portions (I used to over eat a lil due to a “scarsity mentality”, and I’m successfully switching to an “abundance mentality”, training myself to eat just enough and allowing myself to have small healthy snacks during the day), now I’ve been trying to avoid bread and be more mindful of carbs in general (even tho on a vegan diet i don’t find it simple) and have been testing intermitted fasting for a few days (eat window 6 Am-4Pm) The main reason I do this is to improve my relationship with Jesus (I don’t wanna make a God out of my belly no more and get rid of gluttony). I feel really really good, the hardest thing so far was to cut out added sugars… But, one thing I notice, no matter what I do I’m not losing weight, that’s so strange! My period is completely regular. My skin looks soooo much better, my hair is becoming so beautiful too, i’m rarely hungry and I’m thinking less and less about food… I can’t wait to drop some weight too! Anyways, just wanted to share this :) thank you for your videos!!! ❤
Great video. Thomas DeLauer says don’t IF everyday. I strongly believe in listening to your body no matter what. Lately I have felt like 20- 24 hr fasting once a week. Last week 36 hours was easy. This week I could only do 21. And it did have something to do with upcoming menstration. The body is constantly changing. Consistency is not a thing for it as it needs variety depending on where it’s at that day. That’s my experience. Bless
The effects on my hormones and period is one of the major reasons why I intermittent fast. I have a horrible period with enlarged uteran fibroids. So intermittent fasting actually made my period normalish. I would suggest everyone just try it for one to two days a week at first to see how it affects your monthly cycle. It's also great for strength training!
If you're getting hungry around 10am why not just try seeing if you stopping eating at 6pm works better? I personally was never much of a breakfast person, so a coffee with coconut butter (aka bullet proof coffee) in the morning gets me through til about lunch time anyway. And I was so grateful not to have experienced any of those side effects. But I totally get where you're coming from in relation to trying to schedule it into your routine. I work pretty late and when I first started IF I was having to eat around 800 calories in one sitting and it caused me to bloat and feel really uncomfortable when I slept! Definitely trial and error, but I would love to see more research done into it!
You did not let us down you kept it so real which is what a lot of people don’t do these days! Thank you for that. I appreciate the honesty more than u not completing it! You did what was best for you!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I’ve only been doing IF for a week, but what has been working for me is eating breakfast around 10-10.30, having a small snack in the afternoon and then eating a late lunch around 4-5 and nothing else for the day.
I think when women intermittent fasting the body thinks that there is not enough food for carrying a baby. So your body it's like, I'm gonna wait until there's food for the baby.
I was reading that it takes 3 months IF for your hormones to become balanced after changing to IF. There still needs to be research done on women and IF. All the research is about men and rats lol. Great video:)
I follow OMAD and I do fasting workouts and love it very much. I find that I have much more metal clarity. I'm also transitioning to Vegan which I find a little more difficult but your channel gives really good insight. Xoxo
Whenever I’m with my family I make the BIGGEST load of food, something that smells really good. They are always more accepting and open to talk when you have a plate of food three times bigger than them. Restaurants will generally be able to veganise meals, pick specifically that looks easy and ask the wait staff. I worked at a steak house and it happened all the time
I'm on week one, day 5. Finding it very easy. I am also vegan. If you have high fat and low carb it really does make the fasting period a lot easier. I am already moving to 18/6 for 16/8. It is challenging on a vegan diet finding enough variety when you are on low carb but so far so good. Also found some great vegan keto recipes on line
Omg the same thing happened to me. My period was 5 days late and extremely heavy! Like to the point I thought I needed to seek medical attention. I do 16-20 hr daily IF fasts and I was eating a high raw vegan diet. . It was a mess. I'm trying to stick it out.. it's been 2 months now and (I've had my period twice,) the second time my period came it was better but still not normal. I'll give it another month to balance out.
*update* the 16 hr fasting schedule has been working for me. My periods are back to normal... Idk if this impacts ovulation/fertility but I wouldn't recommend fasting for women of normal weight trying to conceive...
omg same. I was intermittent fasting for around 4 weeks to a month and It's only been a week or two that I stopped and I got my period 3 days late which really confused me bc I've been exercising and eating vegan but after watching this everything makes sense now thank you
You’re not letting anyone down. There are some things you could try if you wanted to. For me, I intermittent fast intermittently. I do not fast on my period, at all. I’m usually intermittent fasting 2-4 days a week. I will push past the first wave of hunger, but not the second. Another thing you could do is have some fat during your fasting period. This really helped me. I’d have some coconut oil in my coffee or tea. It was calories, so my body didn’t think I was starving, but it didn’t spike my blood sugar, so I still got the benefits of fasting that I was looking for.
Great video, Rachel. The sun was shining down on you literally, lol. Thanks for your honesty regarding IF. Sorry it didn't work out for you, but well done for listening to your body. Hormones are tricky things at times and yes it's better to let them do their job. Looking forward to your next video.
I have just found your channel and you inspire me! I have just transitioned into being a vegan but I have been finding it so hard to find good recipes that aren’t full of beans and nuts 🙈 you are my new favourite RUclipsr by far! 🐷
Ah, I wanted intermittent fasting to work for me so badly! Hormones got in the way for me as well. But, hey, you gave it a go. Thanks for sharing your experience. :)
I've been intermittent fasting for the past two months. I almost usually eat this way so I was like what's wrong with waiting another hour or two and controlling when I finish eating in the evening. Everything felt good and I finally started to lose weight again (I had hit a plateau earlier this year). Anywho long story shortish my period never came last month and I was likeeee...hmm that weird. I'm on the pill so sometimes it's a little wonky but hearing you say that I'm like...is it the IF?!
I started intermittent fasting, I'm also vegan and listen to my body, I experienced no health benefits within three weeks, quite the opposite. I really struggled sleeping the entire time, I lost absolutely no weight, I didn't have energy, and my period didn't come when it should have.... So I stopped fasting and my period came after around three days and it was the most horrendous period I've had in years. Unfortunately intermittent fasting did not work for me and I don't think I'd risk trying it again
I read that intermediate fasting effects women bc of hormones and that it’s best for women to fast 4 days a week and eat normal the other 3 or the other way around to get your body to adjust to it
I'm so jealous that you have such regular periods...Sometimes I go whole weeks eating 12 to 8 so maybe that's why my cycle is all over the place (earlier, never late. Go figure) Looking forward to that hair regimen!
Foreal, you must eat if your insides are gunna shed and lose blood like that. It has to be ready to shed and lose blood by replenishing. I had a similar experience when I fasted. That's for sharing, now I know it's not just me! P.S.: a Mic would do you wonders💌
You can choose your window. Im just curious why you didn't choose to have your window open early during the day like 9-5 then close it until 9 the next day? That way since your accustomed to eating during the day you wouldn't have issues.
really interesting to hear your experience! i definitely think it's an adjustment hormone-wise. i felt a change the first few months i did IF, in my case a positive one, but i agree it's not necessarily for everyone. hope they come out with more research soon. lots of love x
Also vegan and IF now for 1 month. It's still hard for me. If I'm not eating by 9AM or 10AM the latest, I feel awful. Can't concentrate, brain fog. Just terrible. Maybe I'll try to stop eating earlier in the day, which is hard because of my work schedule. ZERO weight loss 1 month in! :(
Lovely to see you, Rachel! You stand alongside my other favorite Rachel, an Aussie lass Rachel Aust. She's an excellent videographer. Her channel is in her name. I highly recommend it.:) I'm quite a bit older than you both. I'll knock over age 59 this Tuesday February 27, 2018. Yikes! How did I live this long? I expected my father would shoot me dead by age 20. And yet, I continue to beat the odds. A charmed life. Perhaps it's my Irish heritage.:) I tend to attribute my longevity to a couple of habits: one which I rejected, one which I embraced. First, I have never been a cigarette smoker. Sure, I've had a few, but the habit never stuck. Maybe it's because I tried weed first, and really enjoyed it! But that's not a habit anymore. Still, if some comes my way, well.. Second, I got addicted to exercise as a young man. That's still a daily habit. At present, I'm working on a hiking obsession. It's so much fun!:) Today for example, I put in 8 miles, half of which I had 30lb in my pack. Not much, I know, but still a good training weight. Over the decades, I've trained in karate and distance running. I also trained other men in pro tree climbing. So I encourage people of all ages, exercise. Find a discipline you enjoy, take from it what you can. You like the gym? Great! You prefer the track? Terrific! You, like me, crave the open road? Get out there! All you have to do is do it.:)
I became a vegan about 2 months ago and is great I love it . I quited intermittent fasting due to I wanted to take in more calories due to my level of fitness and not wanting to crash on my vegan lifestyle but now I miss my euphoric high testarone feeling that I used to get in my fasting phase is hard for me to keep both vegan and intermittent fasting. Train strongman , calisthenics and pro boxing so my calorie intake must be high enough to keep on improving, perhaps I'm not drinking enough water
Recently came across your videos recently (I did Veganuary and have just carried on after loving it).... so informative and relatable thank you please keep them up! Xxxx
When I intermittent fasted I had the SAME issue with my period, only mine came 2 weeks late so I broke my fast.(I wasn't vegan at the time and I want to try again honestly)
I wonder if I can do breakfast and eat my last meal before 4pm? I just love eating breakfasts too much? And Im not sure why we have to skip breakfast but not dinner?
I do the skip dinner thing. I eat from around 8- 3ish (I'll eat at 8 and then again at 3). Sometimes I try to stop eating at 2. If I'm not feeling well I will eat another small meal at like 4. I love breakfast and always feel hungry when I wake up, so skipping bfast is just not an option for me haha
Watching your videos in Random order this one is great. Love the top and my 5 month old boy loves you. Thanks for the videos wish the were more often 💜
You are not letting anyone down! You would be letting us down if you were not as honest as you have been! Maybe try eating at 10am and stop eating at 6pm and do what you like on the weekends.
I really like your style, videos and general vibe :) I had a suggestion/question - if it's the fat loss you are interested in, why not try going oil free? Your meals and recipes look delicious, I bet you could easily make them without oils :) Or have you tried it already and there's a specific reason why you chose to keep it in your diet? I'd be really interested to hear more on that. Cheers!
Hi Rachel I did say in your week 1 video that as women we have to fast differently. As woman it effects us differently. I decided to fast full time and found when my cycle came I was a real grouch. I couldn't understand why. Maybe this is the reason. I am going to continue and see what happens but I am aware of what the issues can be
When I was in my mid or late teens I was over weight so I started exercising and I would sometimes fast for an entire weekend. The weight fell off quickly.
What is if your body healing itself. I've heard that periods are mainly for getting rid of poisons. Maybe your body is healing itself which is why your. Length of time in between is getting longer
it actually could be for hangry people. I used to have very low blood sugar. I'd feel starved every 2 hours and would be on the verge of passing out :( I got gastritis which caused me to fast unintentionally and it changed my life!! I am healed now and I eat twice a day. I've been doing it for about 6 months and my low blood sugar is completely gone. I now break my fast around noon everyday and then have dinner at 8pm. thats just what works for me but I would give it a try :)
Hey Rachel. Do you have any specific recommendations for guys? I've been doing the intermittent fasting pretty consistently since you announced it, so I wonder if I should expect any issues. Thanks. Once again, I love those opening (and ending) dance moves. Crazy about your channel.
My period was also late a few weeks into IF and the stress of it made my hormones go more crazy. Then I started to get ill and feel rundown. Not sure if it was related to IF but when I started eating 'properly' again, I started to feel normal. Kinda annoying because I was getting used to IF so not sure if this was all a coincidence
I have had an eating disorder and I gave myself time first to recover from it. Then I did intermittent fasting regularly, cause I naturally don't eat breakfast anyway so it was easier for me (you can change the time you actually eat or fast). I actually lost around 100kgs from intermittent fasting in like 2/3 years and now I am trying to get the remaining 40kgs off to get to my optimum weight for my height. I'm also plant-based so it helps me a lot. Honestly, start slow cause intermittent fasting doesn't just have to be like 16:8. I started with like 12:12, 12 hours I ate and 12 hours I didn't and that 12 hour fast was when I slept. You can adjust it to your lifestyle and make sure you eat enough healthy and filling food. I had tons of veggie, fibre, nutrient-dense foods and fruit like bananas because those types of foods fill you up and you won't feel hungry. I drank tons of water too which helped suppress my appetite. I did it more for the health reasons instead of just weight loss... It really helped me recover from having eating disorder triggers too... But everyone is different so please plan it out and have enough research... GOOD LUCK!
It sounds like you’re fasting every day. You should only fast every other day, otherwise it may affect your hormones. Thomas Delaur (I think I spelled that right) explains how to intermittently fast very well.
I’ve been intermittent fasting for the past month as well. My period came 4 days early this month. My flow was also extremely heavy and I naturally have a heavy flow but this one was as if I just had a child. I wonder if the fast changed the hormones in my body as well.
She doesn’t mention how much weight she lost. She started eating when she felt hungry because her period stopped being on its regular schedule. Thank me later
did you notice any differences in your skin? This is my third week of IF and mine has honestly gone crazy for the first time in ages... i'm wondering if there may be any correlation :( xx
i jumped into intermittent fasting but i did it differently. I too, need to eat at least around 10, so I just eat between 10-6. I eat a lot in those hours too. I'm plant based as well, and it works so much better with those hours in my opinion. But of course it's not for everyone.
I really wanted to try it that way but because I get home so late on weekdays I know i would've been really hungry at night 😩 I'm glad it works for you though! ❤️
Morning🌞!!! watch some of your vids, and greatly enjoyed your enthusiasm in them & your advice (Not pressure anyone to believe or not just stating what is working 4 - you). Not totally💯% vegan yet honestly still kinda on the fence but keep up the good work beautiful!!! 😊💓💞
yeah the social aspect of veganism is hard for me and I have been vegan over 7 years. I got invited to lunch at this restaurant, I went online to check the menu (thank God for the internet) they have one vegan item a nasty looking veggie burger so I respectful declined the invitation
Aww what a nice video. I love all of your videos. You are such a great and special influence. Praying for sweet Rawvana. Keep on pursing your dreams.Keep Jesus in your heart, soul and mind all of your days. Trust in him and he will provide all of your needs.
SunshineMena she went over picking a window of time to fast/eat in the last video.
I love the sunrise to sunset

I don’t know if you intended it but that ‘I want to buy a house’ followed by a laugh was so funny, literally describes life in London👌🏽
That laugh is exactly what you thought it was looooool spot onnnnnnn ❤️
Your laugh is seriously SO infectious, it makes chuckle every time!
I love your positivity and how down to earth you come across. I’m with you on the plant based trainers! Keep doing what you’re doing Rachel 💪🏻🌱💚

Similarly, IF on a daily basis doesn't work for me but 24hr fasts once a week are really beneficial!
Giiirl you are truly amazing! Thank you for your videos, wish you all your goals come true!

When I intermittent fasted I had the SAME issue with my period, only mine came 2 weeks late so I broke my fast.(I wasn't vegan at the time and I want to try again honestly)
*All I wanna know is where did u get ur plant, I've been searching everywhere in Birmingham 🙈🙈🌻🌻🌻*
I wonder if I can do breakfast and eat my last meal before 4pm? I just love eating breakfasts too much? And Im not sure why we have to skip breakfast but not dinner?
Kim Ho you eat for 8 hours and fast for 16 and sleeping is included in the 16 hours
Thanks for the videos wish the were more often 💜
love your videos Rachel!!!
Thank you Carrie! ❤️
There is a doctor I recently watched that says that you shouldn't fast during the last 7 days before your period. Maybe this was what was up?
Thanks for doing this video! Been after one for ages 😂 love the dancing at the beginning 😊🤗💚🌱🌿❤️
Did you have any digestive problems? I noticed I get a stomach ache in the mornings after doing this fasting for a week.
Great video! Love your personality!
Such a fun, and informative video. Thank you, sweet Rachel! 😄
Thank you!! ❤️
Cheers!
Music/ song at the beginning of the video pls.
Bum Bum Tam Tam
Brazilian songggg aaaah ❤️
Hi Rachel I did say in your week 1 video that as women we have to fast differently. As woman it effects us differently. I decided to fast full time and found when my cycle came I was a real grouch. I couldn't understand why. Maybe this is the reason. I am going to continue and see what happens but I am aware of what the issues can be
When I was in my mid or late teens I was over weight so I started exercising and I would sometimes fast for an entire weekend. The weight fell off quickly.
Rachel, I also do intermittent fasting, but I eat as soon I am awake and then 8 or 10 hours later. I am a hungry person in the mornings 😀
Wish I could've tried that, but i didn't quite work with my schedule 😩xxx
Yeah, you’re not supposed to fast for 30 days straight as a female. 2 or 3 times a week is good enough.
Some people only intermittent fast one day per week, and claim slow but gradual results.
Love hearing those dreams and goals. I am trying to spread awareness here in the united states so much respect to you!
LOL Get it Rachel!!! 💖😂
I said the same thing.😂
😂❤️
Why could you not start your eating window when you usually have your breakfast anyway and then just finish eating earlier? E.g. 10am-6pm?
Even tho ,I relapsed last night i still enjoy watching your videos & trying to at least cut down on meat.
Step by step! I'm glad your still here lool! xxxx
What is if your body healing itself. I've heard that periods are mainly for getting rid of poisons. Maybe your body is healing itself which is why your. Length of time in between is getting longer
Happy I stumbled upon this video:) Thanks for sharing!
I don't know if I could intermittently fast. I get so hangry. I'm no fun to be around.
ditto. I become so hangry people think I'm a low carber lol
It deffo not ideal for hangry people lool x
it actually could be for hangry people.
Since I started, I've felt less hungry
Hey Rachel. Do you have any specific recommendations for guys? I've been doing the intermittent fasting pretty consistently since you announced it, so I wonder if I should expect any issues. Thanks. Once again, I love those opening (and ending) dance moves. Crazy about your channel.
Thank you!!!! ❤️ And thanks Melissa for sharing xxx
Thanks Melissa W. :-)
She be looking fine asf 😍😍
love your channel, and love the little music/dancing clip you put at the beginning! what happened to the pineapple and kale channel?
Hi they say that for girls it’s best to IF for 3 days a weeks because it’s affects too much your hormones if you do it every days. Look into it. FYI
Thanks Eu! x
Does anybody have any experiences doing IF after recovering from an eating disorder? I want to try it but I’m scared I might relapse.
GOOD LUCK!
I wouldn't recommend it but speak to a health care professional.
For me not eating in the morning would trigger a binge.
It sounds like you’re fasting every day. You should only fast every other day, otherwise it may affect your hormones.
Thomas Delaur (I think I spelled that right) explains how to intermittently fast very well.
Great channel! Keep up the good vibes :)
omg I loved it, you were listening to Brazilian music🥰🥺
I’ve been intermittent fasting for the past month as well. My period came 4 days early this month. My flow was also extremely heavy and I naturally have a heavy flow but this one was as if I just had a child. I wonder if the fast changed the hormones in my body as well.
It's possible but so hard to know with such little research xxx
I just came here to say you're eyebrows are amazing
I LOVE your shirt! Can I ask where you bought it? 😍
We always enjoyed your video. you're such a joy. thanks for sharing
Thank you Cathy!!! ❤️
She doesn’t mention how much weight she lost. She started eating when she felt hungry because her period stopped being on its regular schedule. Thank me later
I don't recommend IF for vegans. IF is fine for non vegans, though.
how many calories you were consuming during your eating window? what were you breaking your fast with
I so enjoy your videos. Your intro dancing gives me life😂. I love it!! Great info. keep sharing. Blessings to you.
haha thank you!!! ❤️
did you notice any differences in your skin? This is my third week of IF and mine has honestly gone crazy for the first time in ages... i'm wondering if there may be any correlation :( xx
Ah no way! I didn't notice any changes in my skin. I hope your skin sorts itself out!! xxx
thank you! x
i jumped into intermittent fasting but i did it differently.
I need the songs at the end sis!! 😩
Morning🌞!!! watch some of your vids, and greatly enjoyed your enthusiasm in them & your advice (Not pressure anyone to believe or not just stating what is working 4 - you). Not totally💯% vegan yet honestly still kinda on the fence but keep up the good work beautiful!!! 😊💓💞
I do mine from 10am -10pm since I get off late
Let's be real, I only watch these videos for the 10 second dancing intro 😂🙌
Good to know that you listened to your body and didn't obsess over this! Unfortunately that's so common these days :(
And thanks for answering my question!
❤️❤️
Just found ur channel are u still fasting I am currently fasting now after my second baby👌🥰💜
yeah the social aspect of veganism is hard for me and I have been vegan over 7 years. I got invited to lunch at this restaurant, I went online to check the menu (thank God for the internet) they have one vegan item a nasty looking veggie burger so I respectful declined the invitation
You're such an amazing inspirational person! After watching your video, I tried intermittent fasting and I am loving the results. Love ya loads!
Aw thank you so much Autumn!!!!! I'm glad it's working out for you!! ❤️
That candle in the background got me stressed lol
Lol I started fasting again yesterday x I did it before for like a week and I feel it did help my stomach tbh
Greece and Germany are pretty vegan-friendly though😮
great video, IF isn't for me either - i just can't do it, my body just doesn't feel right when i force it like that
Thank you! Yeah exactly!
Intermittent just didn't work for me. I'm in fully blown menopause and it really messed my hormones up.
Thanks for sharing. My friend who is going through menopause wasn't sure if she wanted to try or not x
Love your content I'm trying fasting x
