road racer here (cat5). one season in - preparing for season 2. I always hear the trainer road people talk about mountain bike racing - THIS IS MY FIRST TIME ACTUALLY SEEING IT. WOW! THIS FIELD IS SO DAMN STRONG. ALSO - SINGLE TRACK IS NO DAMN JOKE - HOLY CRAP. ALSO - SOME OF THESE TIGHT TURNS...INSANE!!! THIS IS FANTASTIC! I'm not ready to even begin thinking about switching disciplines - but thank you for posting this video! WHAT AN INTRODUCTION TO SUCH AN AWESOME SPORT! Could you add your stats for this race to the video description? One difference i'm seeing off the bat between mtb and road racing is that mtb gaps aren't (don't appear to be?) as much of a death knell in mtb. Those hard turns where everyone has to slow down mean the gaps often take care of themselves. There was this one open section where i was thinking "he's not closing this down...this isn't going to end well" only for there to be a bottleneck at the entrance to the next offroad section of the course. The other difference that i'm seeing is that rubbing tires on mtb is not the same level of hazard that it is on road bikes. You rubbed at a few points - including at the top of the hill at 26:43 and it was as though nothing happened. i know the feeling of almost making a wrong turn on a course like the guys at 18:43. I feel like it is incumbent upon race organizers to make sure that there isn't ever any doubt about where to go. I love the fact that the field called the guys back and they immediately hopped back on - match burned - but not out of the race. also - are you using garmin virb on a mac? virb stopped working for me on pc about 2 months ago. I ended up buying software for data overlays (telemetry overlay). Despite what i said above about gaps - it looked like the field was pulling away from you on the single track before your bike fell over. THat fall sounded bad - i thought that was the end of the video. You getting back on your bike and putting down 1300 watts to grab onto that group that passed you felt like an undertaker wwe moment (do you know the meme? that reference is from the 90s, your HR tells me that the reference might be lost on you). the actual end wasn't what i expected it to be. sorry to hear about your bike.
Sorry about the bad luck DNF. Interesting to see your relatively high heart rate as I am a high HR guy too. I’ve been told not to worry about it because everybody is different. I’m a lot older and slower than you but still about 175 -182 HR for most of the race.
Your heartrate is nuts. We need more of these videos keep em going! Hopefully you are there next weekend!
Ill be there!
@davidbrower4029 hell yeah. My video will be from wave 16. Have a great freaking race!
@davidbrower4029 nice race man! 11th in Pro! Did you record?

Ouch, crash looks brutal. Sorry it ended that way dude, absolutely smashed the start, you’ll be there next year
Thank you to show the level and skills of the pro rider. Sorry for the accident. Come back strong next time!
The front of the race to Dockery looks like pure insanity - sorry your race ended so early like that!
It’s wild for sure
That sucks man! See ya next year!

Adrenaline and fitness play the biggest role for me, this was obviously very high adrenaline but I’ve also averaged 170 for 6 hour races
@@davidbrower4029thanks for your comments. My max HR does increase with fitness as well.
@@FiniteResources7734my heart rate is always high when I race. Im never out of breath so I just go with it 🤷🏼♂️
damn, that's a bummer! good effort though!
Hope you where ok Buddy
Crazy fast
Dude… how did you crash??? Looks like you were going in a straight line!! Wtf… did you have a bad wash out or something??
Another rider hit my handlebars from behind while trying to pass. The bike got swept out from under me
@@davidbrower4029
Ugh….. man. Sad to hear that. Makes more sense now. That really stinks.. 😞
Hopefully you didn't get hurt!
