I GOT DROPPED - 2024 Iceman Cometh Challenge PRO/Cat1 MTB Race
I'm extremely happy to finally accomplish some of my goals at Iceman. I've been traveling to this race every November since I was 6 years old and I finally had a good day out. 11th place in the end is a very good result for me and representative of my season.

I was having a good time until the crash, My hanger was bent after the crash so everything went in the spokes and totaled my bike. Maybe next year!

This was by far my best showing in an elite level mountain bike race so far and I’m happy to walk away with 4th overall on the weekend. After the start I was mostly in group two after the 3 favorites powered away in the first 5 minutes of racing

I managed to snag the win in the first race of the season! I sped up the bridge to the break away and cut out the boring rotations in the break until Kyle cramped up with 2 laps to go.

road racer here (cat5). one season in - preparing for season 2. I always hear the trainer road people talk about mountain bike racing - THIS IS MY FIRST TIME ACTUALLY SEEING IT. WOW! THIS FIELD IS SO DAMN STRONG. ALSO - SINGLE TRACK IS NO DAMN JOKE - HOLY CRAP. ALSO - SOME OF THESE TIGHT TURNS...INSANE!!! THIS IS FANTASTIC! I'm not ready to even begin thinking about switching disciplines - but thank you for posting this video! WHAT AN INTRODUCTION TO SUCH AN AWESOME SPORT! Could you add your stats for this race to the video description? One difference i'm seeing off the bat between mtb and road racing is that mtb gaps aren't (don't appear to be?) as much of a death knell in mtb. Those hard turns where everyone has to slow down mean the gaps often take care of themselves. There was this one open section where i was thinking "he's not closing this down...this isn't going to end well" only for there to be a bottleneck at the entrance to the next offroad section of the course. The other difference that i'm seeing is that rubbing tires on mtb is not the same level of hazard that it is on road bikes. You rubbed at a few points - including at the top of the hill at 26:43 and it was as though nothing happened. i know the feeling of almost making a wrong turn on a course like the guys at 18:43. I feel like it is incumbent upon race organizers to make sure that there isn't ever any doubt about where to go. I love the fact that the field called the guys back and they immediately hopped back on - match burned - but not out of the race. also - are you using garmin virb on a mac? virb stopped working for me on pc about 2 months ago. I ended up buying software for data overlays (telemetry overlay). Despite what i said above about gaps - it looked like the field was pulling away from you on the single track before your bike fell over. THat fall sounded bad - i thought that was the end of the video. You getting back on your bike and putting down 1300 watts to grab onto that group that passed you felt like an undertaker wwe moment (do you know the meme? that reference is from the 90s, your HR tells me that the reference might be lost on you). the actual end wasn't what i expected it to be. sorry to hear about your bike.

Everything functions properly ruclips.net/user/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Nothing was damaged in the box aside from a decal on the fork. The decal was missing a piece of a corner but I ended up peeling them off anyways. Assembly is easy BUT make sure you tune up the derailleurs. Both the front and rear need adjusting. I'd advise going to a bike shop but I opted out and put in 10+ hours with the help of RUclips. Ended up fraying a shifter cable but all in all I learned from the experience. The Brakes work well but the front caliper needs adjusting or at least mine did because the rotor was rubbing against the pads. Make sure you swap out the seat, grips, and pedals. For the short run you'll be fine though. I've read that this bike isn't built yet for hard trails but I just need it for the city. PA has some of the worst roads and being in a mountain this was a great choice. Worth the investment!
