  • 3d layer Disappears in After Effects
Are you having an issue where you turn your 2D layer into a 3D layer and the object in the layer disappears for some reason? Well here is the quick solution to that project. There is no other video on RUclips that has a solution to this problem.

If this video still doesn't work go to top view and then zero out your x,y,z position values.

wow thx so much bro, i was doing 3d typography and for some reason the text would disappear when I clicked the 3d layer and I kept getting frustrated. This was such great timing and I learnt something new. :)

For those who haven't found a solution yet, please check if there are any lights set up in the scene. If there are, please open the material options first and turn off 'Accepts Lights

In reality, this is perfectly normal. After Effects doesn't glitch here, it simply does its job!
To put it simply, when you transform your 2D layer into 3D without using a camera, everything runs smoothly.
However, if you use a camera to zoom in on your 3D layers (as happens when you adjust the two views at the bottom right, with the "Front" view remaining still, representing the whole scene, and the "Active Camera" view showing only what the camera is capturing), then when you transform your 2D layer into 3D, it will not remain in the active camera (because it is zoomed in). Instead, it will retain its original size, that of its original composition. This is what can be seen in the "Front" view when the other views are activated.
In this way, the 2D layer which has become 3D has not disappeared, it has simply been removed from the frame. It has retained its basic position in the scene, but has not followed the movement of the camera, which is what we see in the active camera. This creates a major disproportion, and the layer disappears from the frame!
I know it's a bit complex to explain without visual aids, but I hope you get the idea!

Guys if you have same problem like mine. About creating travel map animation where the shape layer make it 3d and disappears. Just change the renderer from cinema 4d to classic 3d.

This wasn't the solution for me, however maybe this may help for those who this didn't work for...
I noticed that as soon as I made a layer 3D, for some reason my After Effects turned the opacity of that layer to 0%. If this happens to you, click on your layer and hit "t" to reveal the opacity, and change it to 100%.

In my case, when I toggled 3D it set the Orientation to 0.0˚,0.0˚,0.0˚ - which apparently made it invisible - even from the front. I was able to see it again by changing it to 1.0˚,0.0˚,0.0˚. 🙃
