Now you're in my neighborhood. I used to operate the Cave Train back in the 1970's. It's considered a classic by the locals.
Kanao Kanegon You were a ride operator?
How old are u
How cool!
@@knightofarkronia8652 Yes, I worked at the Boardwalk in the late 1970's as a ride operator during the summer months. It was a great job for a young person to have and right there at the beach. Good memories.
@@cynthiasotelo639 I'm 60 years old.
My wife and I visited here some years back, we found it fun. The pier has some other classics, including the carousel and the wooden roller coaster. If you take the sky ride, you may notice some of the cave dwellers enjoy it, too.
As a bay area resident who hasn't been to Boardwalk in ages, I'm glad to see the Cave Train's still around!
A couple of the puns in the ride have a Flintstones quality to them, but for some reason a few of the cave people's faces reminded me of the Rugrats!
Tommy!!!
@@gazzy_burns Exactly
And jayward cartoons
You know, the budget on this was probably 1/10th or less of what Disney has per ride. Yes, it's cheesey.. but, kids might enjoy it.
Yeah, that’s an obvious no-brainer.
I’m an adult and I love this ride! It’s my favorite non-Disney dark ride
Bright visuals and jazzy music! 🎶🎵 Love it!
this is a really cute ride, dang! i love the cartoony style for the characters and the overall flintstones-eqsue vibe, it looks like a lot of fun
It's like an off version of The Flintstones.
My thoughts exactly I loved the flintstones
It was intentional.

One of my favorite rides at Santa Cruz!!!!
I love the beach boardwalk! I miss it so much now that my family moved to the other coast
I’m always fascinated by this ride. I have a lot of unanswered questions: somebody decided this was a great idea to put money into and build. Who was it, and why? Was this some ersatz Disney visionary? How hard did he have to fight to realize his dream? Or was it a cold calculated boardroom response to Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean?” Did they go to any lengths at all to pretend they were not ripping off “The Flintstones”? Why is the A/C always broken in the Ice Cave? When did they put in the new soundtrack instead of (like they used to) using Danny Elfman’s “Breakfast Machine” score from “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure?” Did they ever pay any royalties on that in the first place? If not, did they get sued?
It’s hard to find specific history of this attraction though there’s a lot of stuff about the Boardwalk out there.
I ride this thing every time I go, thinking I’ll understand it better. But I never do, and I’m filled with questions every time the ride ends.
I really loved the new update for this ride, but the dark light it’s too bright during the ride. They really need to lower the dark light brightness. Still one of my favorite ride in Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. :)
I used to love this ride as a kid, and I can't really look back at these new changes. It doesn't feel the same to me
This is downright freaky psychedelic stuff. I love it. This ride is awesome.
been to the board walk many times and didn't know this existed .always went on the dripper ,water ride ,and carousel
Best ride growing up when I was a kid back in the 80-90
@1:13 Honestly a really well done tunnel sequence
Great footage looks Great Thanks
When you see videos of all other theme parks, you realize how elaborate, detailed and perfect the work of Disney and Universal really is
That Cave Train Ride was like Alice in Wonderland in Fantasyland in Disneyland.
Trippin, this is something you'd see at disney or Universal studios lol
@@watsonvillecalifash8278 yeah but theirs are more impressive with real moving animatronics and special effects, this ride just has statues and figurines rotating and it's all under a black light
@@ilydjdjgaowmija2616 yea, but still impressive tho, this beach boardwalk ride was made like in the early 60s...
@@watsonvillecalifash8278 so was Disneyland
ha! i'd forgotten all about this! rode it back in '02.
This ride never scared me as a child but I’ve always felt creeped out by this ride can’t quite put me finger on what specifically but to this day I get unsettling vibes from it
Yes it looks like tripping on drugs or psychosis, that’s what creeps me out about it
Cave Train Adventure is my favorite non-Disney dark ride 🥰
Definitely didn't expect the Elfman music. "Face like a Frog" was the cartoon's name.
OHHH WOW!!! Thank you so much for this. I used Used to live this ride as a kid in the 70s. Can’t believe it’s still there. That’s great 😁
Went here many times in the 70s and 80s and 90s I retired and left California.
Ive been riding this since 1973 in 6th grade totally cheesy totally great
I like it, very.cute ride! Thanks!🌸🌸🌸
HILARIOUS so Nostalgic and fun
This looks like crazy fun, I love cave rides. I am guessing the attraction is far darker than this video makes it out to be.
1:15 I used to be scared of this part cause I thought we were upside down😂😂😂
I remember this ride!
Memories😍
Looks awesome!!
It’s one of the best places to be at during the summer time in Santa Cruz a lot has changed as well
Could you film the Haunted Castle?
PLEASE
I think they just did!
Nicole Hannah Yeah! They did a few days ago!
Haunts and Amusements! Nice!
They have 2 lol. The ride is so broken now, but I still love it.
Very cool ride 👍
Good thank you
🖒🖒🖒
At least this ride seems to have more things moving in it than the ones in Dubai 😋
The music playing in the ballroom... Is that Bei Mir Bist Du Schon? I definitely recognized that.
Simple yet cute
This should have been in US. A lot of the rides at the boardwalk are far more scarier than anything in that movie. 😆
Quite nice video thought... 🙂
interesting and very unique, although i'm sure danny elfman wouldn't appreciate his music being used on the ride.
@tinylilmatt starting from 1:45 - can't remember exactly, but it's definitely elfman. i have a couple of cds of his film music and it's definitely his composition.
Rye Playland’s Ye Old Mill Music
I'm sure Danny would have loved to see this!
@@cornjobb it's called "Face like a Frog"
When I was younger I would wear neon or white clothing so that I could also glow 💀
2:17 was that dinosaur giving the finger?
What's the music on this ride? There are so many rides with that music.
5:01 Tommy pickles?
What
lol, the guy that made Teddy Ruxpin did some of the additions in the 60s, so its just really odd coincidence it has a Rugrats vibe, but it also helps separate newer additions from the original.
懐かしいありがとうございました
MMMM-mmmm! Deliciously cheezy!
What cartoon is the Dark Ride from?
I think it's all original.
Ive went on that ride and i'm going on angin
Who else kind of thought this was like a Disneyland or Disney world ride
1:13 epic!
yea its not a mindblowing ride but this is the best thing ever when youre a kid fr
Kinda looks like they want to make a Flintstones ride but couldn't get the licence and made the ride anyway
Not bad.
This would be terrifying if the train shut down and you had to walk
5:57 Carnivores Allosaurus sound?
Whaaaaat??????
Soo much excitement.........not!!!!
I'd want my money and my life back!!
Carnaval ride🌞
There are bad amusement park rides, but this is in a class all by its own. Ugh!
5:19 sabertooth bear
id hate to have that job though driving it constantly lol
Noise cancellation headphones... Best friend
I used to operate this ride. It wasn't too bad, however sometimes at night when I went to sleep I'd hear the sounds of the Cave Train in my head from working on it all day.
Carnival ride
*GRAND DAD!*
Oh wait wrong Ride
the fact it's supposed to be a cave but then ends up having show ceilings is... off-putting
Thank you saved me 5 dollars!
Isla
This is one of the most depressing things I’ve ever witnessed
Beech Man you must had no child hood
Ur the most depressing thing I've ever witnessed
That is the stupidest train ride I have ever seen!!🚂
日本と比べたらクオリティ低いのかな?
Wow, that a little lame.
Poor animatronics 👎🏻
they are not animatronics
They are more like statues with a small amount of moving parts
Thomas R well at least in dubai they have a story, not like this stupid ride
@Thomas R Agreed. It probably had way smaller of a budget than the junk in Dubai as well. Honestly the Shrek ride in Dubai looks like the worst dark ride I've ever seen.
Well that ride made no sence
Kinda stupid dark boring
This ride is just awful.. looks really stupid and annoying loud. Doesn’t look like a well thought out ride!
LaDolcevita if you’re a NorCal local this ride is more nostalgic than exciting
Doop Pood, It was nostalgic for me when I went there, and I live in Ohio!
ARoss it’s SO iconic
Girl have you ever been to a ride every ride is loud
