another great episode, as always! perfect balance of knowledge, jokes, and actually great photos!
Thanks a lot! 🤜🤛
I’m so glad I found this as I’ve been looking to buy one and adapt lol thank you.
You're welcome🙏 Glad to help😉
Great content as always! One thing to keep in mind though is Fujis crop factor. Meaning this full frame 90mm lens on a fuji APS-C sensor is about 135mm field of view. Nevertheless great option
Thanks!🙏 As for the crop factor - why to keep it in mind?😂 I don't really see why photographers should bother with it. You need longer - get longer, you need wider - get wider. Crop is just another topic for discussion on darknet photo forums...
I just picked up a Contax G1 this week with the 28mm, 45mm, and 90mm lenses. The 90mm lens I was using in the past for street was a 1956 Leica Elmar f4 - it is small and light and I take some great shots with it on my X-T4 and at $165 you cant beat the price - I definitely recommend old LTM Leica glass (With a Fuji adapter). Anyways - great video. You have a new subscriber. I cant wait to try out the Contax system today with these 3 lenses - if they perform well I'll be purchasing an adapter so that I can use them on my X-T4. Thanks for also including some great sample shots as well.
Thanks a lot, enjoy your G1🙌🏼
Your photos are great!!! Nice to see you back!! And yes we are old 😂😂
Ahaha, thanks😂
If you look at the image at 8.38 , there is something different with that Zeiss 90mm 2.8, look at the richness of subtle tones of colours. It is clearly less adapted to digital bodies and sensors than the Fuji 90mm. But the Zeiss is overall a MUCH higher quality lens for contrast and rendering. A lot of shots are easier and quicker to produce with the Fuji, but when you get a shot that shows the strength of the Zeiss, then there're no comparison possible, only with similar Leica lenses... Not all aspects of lens performance can be expressed via sharpness, vignet, and bokeh ball tests. Sometimes you just have to try it, follow your feeling, and then try to explain it...
I have a full set of Contax 18mm, 35mm, 50mm and 85mm. Will all be compatible on the X-Pro 3? Since I use them mainly for video and converted in EF-mount, should I buy an adapter from C/Y to Fuji or EF to Fuji?
Thanks
Either way will work, just try which one works best for you. Adapters are cheap to buy and try
Hi, what converter did you use to attach it on your Fuji? I was planning to buy this one but the seller doesn't know what camera body is the lens for.
It seems my adapter is discontinued, cannot find it anymore... I put the links for other similar adapters in the description of the video, check them out😉
2:08 i can feel with you XD The Contax lenses are so nice they all should be rehoused so that they can survive. I really love your minimal shots. 👌
😂😂 Thanks!🙏 If it's ever done, original G/G2 users will be pissed😅
I have no idea, but I remember my Contax 85mm on my RTS II body in the 80's. How about those on Fuji? More problems?
Didn't consider any SLR lenses since it would be too bulky with the adapter... I tried some in the past, but it ruins the whole point of a small camera, at least in my opinion
I really love that the lens' finish matches the finish on the Xpro3 Dura Silver finish! I wish Fuji would release a lens dedicatedly for the Dura finish as they did with the xf23mm graphite edition released as a kit with Xpro2 graphite
It's not an exact match, but vey close, yes!..
@@SergioMusel I'm getting the exact same lens with a matching color mount. So excited!
Own all fujicrons and am in the same route when searching for a 90mm for Fuji x camera. Almost got a Tele-ELMARIT-M and found some people said the glass got fuss quite often. Just bought a mint Contax G 90/2.8 for $100 from Japan
Great option, it's a bit heavy and big for Fuji cameras, but it's the best choice if AF is not a dealbreaker
Nice review!
Thank you! Cheers!🙏
Haven’t you consider also trying contax yashica lenses? (I mean the ones for the dslr system), there is an 85/2.8 sonnar, which should be pretty fine as well, it is a compact size lens and it HAS focusing ring (but unfortunateky I haven’t tried it personally, just heard stuff about it, mostly good stuff). Anyway nice vid :)
Thanks!🙏 I purposefully avoided the M42, C/Y, F, EF, and other SLR mounts simply because of a big flange distance and consequently bulky adapters which in turn make the whole set up quite front heavy on a light camera like X-Pro3. There is another advantage to choosing M or L39 mounts: since they are meant for rangefinder, they tried to make them as compact as possible (to not block the viewfinder), unlike SLR lenses where size and weight weren't really a problem
K so based on the focusing experience I’m glad I went with the Elmarit-M 90, but if I had the Dura Silver instead of the Dura Black I’d be tempted on the Contax too. That’s pretty sick
Yeah, I love the looks👍 Kinda frustrated why they didn't make titanium versions of the primes like they did for graphite X-Pro2🥲
@@SergioMusel yeah I was just thinking that. I got the graphite 23mm f2 for my dura black, and it’s cool but it doesn’t match perfectly. Titanium match would’ve been sick. For real tho - I think it would be sooooo sick if they went big and did a painted brass body for the X-Pro4 😳
@@_parkphoto So many want a more Leica-like approach for the next X-Pro, me included, but the truth is - they probably want to clearly distinguish away from resemblance...
@@SergioMusel yeah that is true. It is good to keep a distinction
@@_parkphoto That is why I'm kinda excited what did Fuji prepare for us with X-Pro4? I'm guessing it's the next camera to be announced
Could you tell me where to find the same adapter(what brand of it)? I can’t found it⋯⋯ Very enjoy your points!!
Thanks!😁 People asked me couple of times before, you can find the link in comments... Used to be on Chinese AliExpress, but not sure they still have it😅
@@SergioMusel thanks for your information! Amazing photos 🤩
Do you know where to get the Laina adapter
Someone asked in comments before, here is another link m.tb.cn/h.fiSqftY?sm=07ea6d
and does the parallax correction work or no?
@@SpencerLupulI was using it in evf mode, so don’t remember
I admire your determination to adapt this lens. I took more easier route and adopted vintage SLR lenses. However, to still keep size and weight down, we talk Zuiko OM and some M42 lenses...
Yeah, I bet there are better options among SLR lenses, but I didn't even consider them 'cuz of size of both lenses and adapters, too bulky for the X-Pro...
@@SergioMusel Hmmm...ever tried the Zuiko 50mm f1.8?
@@tomislavmiletic_ Nope, but again, looking specifically into 90mm, it is hard to find a good compact one; with 50 is easier a bit
@@SergioMusel Well there's Olympus Zuiko 85mm f2 (latest version almost as good as modern lenses), Nikon's 85mm f2 and Pentax Takumar (M42) 85mm f1.8, all of them small, light and compact. Granted, all those lenses have 5mm shorter focal length, and are a bit heavier and wider than that Zeiss lens, and are bit longer due to longer adapter. Yeah and maybe a bit front heavy. Just a bit. But on the bright side (literally) you get additional stop of light. Personally, I'm OK with that bit of extra weight if I don't spend too much $ on a glass, especially if IQ is expectable. Course in my mind everything from Leica these days is overrated price wise, used or new...
@@tomislavmiletic_ For me, I can sacrifice stop of light for smaller size and weight, because I don't use 90mm that often) But surely, adapting any older lenses is a great way to get what you want
Hey mate i have a question on this lens
What i know this is a ff lens, and with the adapter it will stay 90mm on apsc?
Here. We. Go. Why you need to know it? Do you have a full frame camera?
@@SergioMusel dude i just ask you a fuckin question because i have the same weight problem with the xf90... I never use an adapter and dont understand how it fuckin works...
@@semirjatic4582 I know this is old...but in the event you never got your answer...any full frame lens on APSC will have it focal distance changed...
@@tkaemendez8428 thanks mate
Look he takes the time to humilate someone in public who is new in the photographic world
But no problem…maybe he needs that to be taken seriously
where did you buy your laina adapter from?
Got it from a Chinese vendor, hope it helps m.tb.cn/h.f307IbC?sm=02026e
@@SergioMusel Thanks, been looking for a smaller option then my 90 f2 from fuji, I honestly prefer to use manual lenses on my xpro 3, and have my x100v for autofocus
@@aefoundry If you have no problem focusing with two fingers - this Contax gem is quite good👌
@@SergioMusel im just wonder how video would look with this, i do a lot of talking head so auto focus isn't a need for me.
@@aefoundry In this case, I guess it will fit your needs👍
I really wish Fuji would come out with a 90mm 2.8 lens this size instead of that monster f2. If contax can do it, I don’t see why fuji couldn’t. I get they wanted to stick with the f2 aperture to compliment the other f2 lenses but keeping it compact like the others would have made more sense. They made 16 f2.8 so hopefully soon a 90 f2.8
Exactly! They made a quite compact 70-300, I'm ready even for 90 f4 with OIS
Lift weights.
@@SergioMusel Across a living room the Fuji 90 at f5.6 d.o.f. is about a half inch. So, your f4 makes sense. The 90 is about missed shots, although it's why I just got a fine X-H1 and grip for a very good deal. But the learning curve for difficult lenses is always fun.
@@sclogse1 who said anything about weight?
Check out the Minolta m rokkor 90mm f4
Oww, this one looks interesting!🤩 Do you own one? I’m wondering wether it produces any color falloffs on digital, typical for M-mount lenses?
@@SergioMusel I have one and use it on a xpro2. No weird colour shifts, performs really well.
Yes! And you can use it on your eventual Leica body!!! I got one and it’s good.
@@liambaillie218 Oh, great!🙌 I'll try to find one to compare👍

And while I have you here: чи була в тебе можливість порівняти видошукачі x-t серії з x-pro3?
Бо мені навіть на x-t2 дуже подобається evf (після x-e1) але формфактор дзеркалки тупо не підходить фізично (великий ніс) 😅
@@androoy.p Та сама проблема😂 З X-Pro i X100 набагато краще👌🏼
@@SergioMusel дякую, ти врятував мій gas від повільної смерті - тепер буду шукати x-pro3 за гарну ціну)
When you say 90mm is plenty to enjoy, we're talking when it's fully retracted right? I mean, the lens...

Voigtlander VM 90 f/2.8 Apo-Skopar is crazy good performance for the money Cosina is asking
Yeah, I talked about it in my insta stories, this video came out before Voigtlander introduced it… You have one?
Yes. Really good performance and undercuts the more expensive Leica alternatives. It can resolve well on my M10-R without problems.
@@raxmendorom Great to know! It is a bit chunky though, isn't it?
Subscribed because "fucking expensive bro" AMEN
Talking about 90mm in Fuji system that would be 60mm f2.4 macro.Fuji has 90mm fujicron f2 which represent 135mm field of view.
60 is 60, 90 is 90, don't confuse😂
As I've said in the video, I have 50/2 already, so getting an older 60/2.4 macro lens doesn't make sense; as for 90/2, again, I've said in the video that I don't need such a big and fast tele lens.
@@SergioMusel Yeah you are correct ,my reference was F.O.V the focal length ,aperture and output is indeed 90mm.
Less swearing!
More lenses!
Amen🙌 Hopefully it makes my New Year's resolution list

@@tkaemendez8428 Ahah, thanks!😂
It's insane how big the native lenses are (compared to old school lenses). I have an adapter for both: these contax g lenses, and my Olympus zuiko lenses. And they're tiny compared to the native fujifilm lenses. The Olympus lenses stick out a little farther because they're meant to be on an SLR with a mirror, but they are still smaller than the fuji lenses. I get it, they all have electronics and autofocus and whatnot... still. I love how the vintage lenses look on the XPro. Fucking beautiful. I'll manual focus all day if it makes me want to take my camera out more often and shoot more often. Sign me up.
Absolutely agree, especially comparing Leica lenses (which are full frame) to Fujinons...
I'm in the same boat, I love how compact the film lenses are, I've been using the OM 28mm. But with the adapter, it still feels a bit heavy. Now I'm looking into getting the contax 28 to not have any flange distance. Have either of you adopted the 28 to your xpros?
@@equal___ Ya, I have the Contax 35mm (which is about the size of the 28). Unfortunately the adapters are a little thicker than say leica/fuji because it needs a focusing screw mechanism. But still much thinner than going SLR lens to the fuji.
@@equal___ ya, I have the Contax 35mm (which is about the size of the 28mm). Unfortunately the adapters are a little bigger because it has to add a focusing ring for the Contax lenses. But it's still smaller than going from an SLR lens to Fujifilm. And they look great on the fuji.
