Love this!! It's one of the reasons I am choosing to go to PTA school vs. another healthcare field. I love that you see the same patients over a period of time and develop a relationship with them and see their progress. I also love encouraging and lifting others up and I think that would be very helpful in this field! Hoping to get accepted Fall 2024!🤗

Hey, great video! PTA sounds like it could be a good career move for some of reasons you mentioned. I was in rehab years ago after a motorcycle accident and I was impressed with the PT and PTA who helped me recover. Recently I took a temp job shuttling disabled folks and I discovered how much I like helping others. My main concern was if I would be able to physically do the job because I have a prosthesis in my elbow as well as arthritis in my wrist. I’ve learned how to avoid to most of the arthritis aches brought on by my injuries but wasn’t sure if PTA is the right move. Any advice is much appreciated, thanks!

Everyone's different man, but I know someone who worked with an OT who didn't have any arms. And that person was a successful clinician.

It’s a career that offers a lot of reward, positive reinforcement and opportunities.
    Pros
Get to work with people and see how your work and expertise, changes their life.
Therapists are usually a good bunch and are fun to work with.
There is and always will be demand for this field anywhere you go, so moving and traveling while remaining employed is easy.
Salary can be good in the proper setting.
    Cons
Trying to motivate people who don’t care about their health and well being gets exhausting .
Earning are based to reimbursement which is ever decreasing.
Little room for career growth, typically the more you advance in this field, the less patient care you will be able to enjoy.

Each profession in healthcare has different criteria. One of the main things for being a PTA is that you can perform CPR. Because you need to be able to get certified. But check with a program that you'd want to get into, but I can't imagine that would keep you away from being a PTA.

i’m about to finish my PTA program as a 22 year old. do you think it’s worth me going for DPT, or is the extra years of schooling plus the debt not worth it and i should just go into home care?

In order for future student to make a good choice in this career you should list the con as well not the pro only. Because of 5 year in the field you will want to get out. I am in the field for 27 year in florida and it is the worst mistake i have made. The money use to be good not anymore and the BS u will take for ungrateful patient is amazing.

I appreciate the feedback. I agree there are plenty of cons as well. This video is specifically about the benefits only.

Absolutely! There are pros and cons for sure but in the pro category you will meet incredible people and help them in ways you never thought. You will be more grateful for what you have, even more empathetic towards others , and driven to improve the profession and healthcare in general. So yea, there is some pretty cool stuff.
