I think that the reason why his face is under storm veil is because that’s where he was assassinated. Godrick and his lineage typically were lording over stormveil so it makes sense that that’s where he died. After he was killed, his body was moved to under the erdtree for a proper burial, which is the other place his face appears, yet obviously it’s much larger.
I thought this at first as well, but various lore points specifically call out the assassins fleeing from the capital, so it couldn't have taken place at stormveil
Seriously, this is the best lore content being produced. No idea how your channel hasn’t blown up yet, but I have no doubt it will if you keep this up.
I don't quite remember that dialogue but I think it's actually the opposite. In Fia's ending it's the age of death so death returns to the Lands Between, but Rogier's intention was to heal them of an affliction. He disagreed with D wanting them dead for good so it's hard to say.
You missed a little detail about Rogiers hat it say that he supposedly had heretical practices makes me wonder if alberich was his mentor or something like, that since he was on the balcony outlooking where alberich invades and they are both aristocrats/spellblades, but maybe im just reaching who knows.
You missed the point that Rogier becomes fia Champion and fights to defend her disgusting Lord. Perhaps D wasn't wrong and Fia is just a thrall to the god of death and she takes Rogier effectively as a slave when he is consumed by the infection spread by the god of death. The fact that Rogier under Fia control has no control over his actions points to the fact that Fia has no qualms to use people if it's for her lord. Also considering Fia's use of Rogier and D's friendship with him it's not so surprising how he hates her.
What a good man. I missed alot of this about him my first play thru by not really knowing what to look for and when to talk to him again. Next play thru
When I saw that Rogier was one of Fia’s champions as a spirit ash in the deep root depths, I balked and was killed by him. I wish I had the presence of mind to understand where all these NPCs paths lead and why. I still don’t understand what “Those Who Life In Death” means apart from “Undead”. But how does that happen because of the golden order?
This is possible due to godwyns body spreading death through the lands between. It does this because he was killed by the black knives infused with destined death.
The Golden Order hates them because in the world described by the Golden Order's teachings, 'true' death or death in general isn't allowed. You're meant to have an Erdtree burial and re-enter the cycle. And remember the Rune of Death specifically was removed from the Elden Ring during the time of the Golden Order, so in general the idea of Those Who Live in Death is seen as heretical. They're separated from the 'natural order of things' (as prescribed by the Golden Order). Living as separate beings in a state of undeath rather than re-entering the Erdtree.
I know there’s not a lot about the banished knights but could you do a video on them. You find them in some interesting spots in the game, and I wonder why they were banished from their homeland.
From what I've gathered they seem to be banished due to their affinity towards dragons. It seems like they may have served them and perhaps even partook in dragon communion, based on the ones you find near the dragon temple. There are also a bunch in Farum Azula, a nexus of primal dragon-sourced activity (based on the beastmen that have mammalian yet also dragon features, the presence of Placidusax and the other minor dragons). I think this would get them banished because the dragons represent the world before the golden order, and those who worship them are not aligned with the current dominating (Golden) order in the lands between. Partaking in dragon communion seems to be severely frowned upon in the current regime of the Golden Order, and those who do it too much contort into the magma wyrms we fight throughout the game (I believe it is the Magma Wyrm curved greatsword description that says that). I almost wanna say that the dragons were the lords/ heralds/ higher ups of the order of the crucible before the erdtree but that is way more speculation. Edit: this is just my two cents. In no way am I saying this is "how it is"
Rogier was such a good guy... (also, near the giant head, there is his "blood trace". Something took him and mafmde him levitate like Bloodborne's Amygdalas.)
I legit didn't find Stormveil Castle until I was level 99 and just burned through it. It's actually a bloodstain that shows him being infected with deathblight. We already mention in the video why he's dying but we probably should have snagged some footage of the bloodstain.
Not sure if it's unknown or just unimportant, but I've never heard anyone mention the eyes in the tree stumps having eyes. Specifically the ones where you fight the mariner
On the topic of Godwyn’s face appearing in two places - in deep root depths there seems to be lots of scaly snake-like skin around his corpse. I think it might be more likely that his corpse was assimilated by the god-devouring serpent. We know Rykard did play some role in helping Ranni orchestrate the night of black knives, so it would make sense for the serpent to have access to Gydwyn’s body. This could mean that when the serpent shed it’s skin, it also shedded a husk of Godwyn’s face, thus explaining why there are two corpses.
It also makes sense that the face is so big since we see rykard's post-absorbed face in the fight. Another youtube lore duder made a similar comment, thinking that godwyn was eaten by the God-serpent. Certainly an interesting concept, rykard certainly has something to do with ranni's plot
The flaw with this is that I believe there is an item description saying that it is effectively a cancerous growth on the roots and that there are more than the sole body and the face on the roots. We may see more of them in the DLC if we can access more underground areas of the game etc.
I would love having death flames that the omen use but as an incantation that coats our sword, we would spray it on our weapon like them. Another one would be death flames in a forward motion out of our mouth, like the omen. It would do holy damage, like the eclipse shotel

Yup! That is the Deathblight taking hold and due to Rogier no longer being connected to grace, instead of respawning he is made permanently ill until he dies.
When we fight Fia’s champions, Rogier is one of them that fights us the player alongside with Lionel, is there sum connection to this? Or is it just a spirit ash that is a mimic of Rogier?
we find Lionels armour in Leyndell, next to a dress that looks like Fias. Both characters got the deathbed companion treatment from Fia, and she is talking about that Rogier is laying next to her
If you wonder why he is really cursed if you go to the Godwyn face under stormveil castle their is a bloodstain and if you touch it he is impaled by a scarlet rot weapon that is a spear I say commander o,neil did it
I ask you: would Rogier be happy with the Duskborn ending? Is this what he would have liked if he obtained the cursemark? Or would he hate it if immortality is ridden from the land, since he respected Ranni's decision to murder Godwyn to cast eternal life upon the lands? All he said is that he wanted to protect those who killed Godwyn. Does that mean he also wants likes if things stay this way? Or would he like Fia's way of things? Rogier got into his demise 3 days ago in my playthrough. I still am not over it. Especially the fact I couldn't bond more with him and I still don't really understand why he wanted the cursemark. I come here to the commentsection to find people that are not just playing the game to get sick loot, but actually care for the characters. And I care a lot damn...
@@square-table-gaming Ah and thank you for your super quick answer. It determines my way on viewing the possible endings. Maybe the Elden Lord shall become mad because of Rogier's death and will curse everyone lol
The face below stormveil is connected to a body though. How could it cwlong to Godwyn when it already has a human torso? If it's a relic the same way the sacred relic sword is just Radagon's body, then that must mean there were victims other than Godwyn from the assassination on the night of the black knives
The face below Stormveil is part of Godwyn. When we find his body below, you can see multiple cancerous growths coming from him. The face is one of these.
So... Who else has noticed that the explanation of those who live in death kinda doesn't make sense... Godwyn attached to the root of the Great tree is causing those who live in death. But there are Pustules in Faram Azula. And undead beastmen. There are no roots reaching Faram Azula and one could assume that Faram Azula has been detached from the greater Landmass since before the night of black knives. Which means SOMETHING about the story we get is a lie, or at least, has been forgotten.
So death existed in farum Azula before it was hidden within Malikeths blade. I think that would explain this. Also, Farum Azula exists somehow outside of time. Godwyn isn't the projenitor of destined death, just it's current vessel since he was slain with the black knife.
Rogier's apology is in acknowledgement that he's going to end up one of Fia's champions there at the location of Godwyn's corpse.

@@square-table-gaming He can probably never have the same influence over the erdtree that rykard has on the serpent because the erdtree seems far more powerful than the serpent and only Godwyns body could be given to the tree.
@danish rahmad Suck in a good way .. not THAT good way
@danish rahmad bc it might be hard to fight a soulless tree man who spews death blight everywhere and is covered in thorns.
@@hennessya96 i wouldn't be too sure about that, The God Devouring Serpent is equally immortal, notice how Rykards head is still pretty much moving and writhing after you 'kill' him. Rykard is not done yet and he is still trying to find a way to devouer the gods, togethaaaahhh

I call Rogier a 'noir magic detective'. He needs some rain and ambient jazz music.
Rogier's Journal. October 12th, 1985. A demigod has diee. This land's afraid of me. I've seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters, and the gutters are full of blood, and when the drains finally scab over all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the tarnished and demigods will look up and shout "Save us!" and I'll whisper "No."
fun fact. its not only the crabs that have godwyns face, the basalisk model was changed to spit death clouds and mimik his face as well.
Rogier is honestly one of my favorite npcs
Your voice is awesome! Dynamic and relaxing. A tough balance to achieve
Didnt even notice this guy until he was dead at firelink shrine sadly
Great video, one of my favorite places for elden ring lore. I look forward to your future work
D said if I remember correctly, that rogier lay with fia quite often. I feel he understood that through fia those who live in death could be saved
I don't quite remember that dialogue but I think it's actually the opposite. In Fia's ending it's the age of death so death returns to the Lands Between, but Rogier's intention was to heal them of an affliction. He disagreed with D wanting them dead for good so it's hard to say.
@@square-table-gaming I think D says the line, I remember it in my first play through so it’s been awhile
Fia says it actually - “Dear Rogier likes to speak of it when he is abed” or something like that
@@kanra5216 I think that’s it yeah
@@colorgreen8728 no D says it too
Hell yeah! Needed something to eat breakfast to! Thanks buddy. Good work.
Happy you dig the content! Falling a little behind.
If you click the blood stain just right of the face you see how Rogier got injured.
You missed a little detail about Rogiers hat it say that he supposedly had heretical practices makes me wonder if alberich was his mentor or something like, that since he was on the balcony outlooking where alberich invades and they are both aristocrats/spellblades, but maybe im just reaching who knows.
Something tells me that both of them may have a connection, but idk
Here! Here! For Rogier!
Poor Rogier.
If there is ever a alternate dlc ending.
I want your tarnished to give Rogier the title of elden Lord. He deserves it
You missed the point that Rogier becomes fia Champion and fights to defend her disgusting Lord.
Omg😭 I just finished his quest, I really thought we end up saving him somehow at the end of his quest🥺...Rogier besto waifu🍻😭
These videos are my drug of choice
That's why they zombies or skeletons. Something is keeping them ambulatory other than the outer will/grace but none consider them alive.
You also missed that he is the second champion of fai in her quest line
It makes sense as he sought to save those living in death. That doesn't deal with his life really, more so his death.
The first time I saw Rogier at the Roundtable on game release, I was like “why is this dude covered in shit from the legs down?” Lol
Great job. The content is great and the mellow style is perfect for me to listen to while working on something. Keep it up!
Awesome, thank you!
Rogier the true homie
Elden rings friendship is a scam all our friends end up dying 😂
In no way am I saying this is "how it is"
@@melomet3789 I agree with your theory very well spoken, you also pick up the dragon communion seal off a banished knight ghost limgrave.
Rogier was such a good guy... (also, near the giant head, there is his "blood trace". Something took him and mafmde him levitate like Bloodborne's Amygdalas.)

Rogier is elden ring best boi
I played a spell blade in my first play-through so was really sad when he got blighted. He was such a nice NPC.
I legit didn't find Stormveil Castle until I was level 99 and just burned through it. Later, I found some random dude dying on the balcony at the RTH, eventually got his equipment, and still never knew who 'that Roger guy' was...
This is part of what makes the game amazing. The game loads and you go... never know what you may (or may not) find.
this is almost unfathomable. I truly can not comprehend that you didn't find Stormveil til 99. there is a road that leads you directly to it from the Stranded Graveyard. it is gigantic. the northern part of the map isn't even accessible until you pass through/by it. Bravo man. lmfao
@@buttqueef9900 Maybe he means Stormveil proper, after defeating Margit? In my first playthrough I ran around without a crafting kit for most of the early game because I couldn't initially afford it, and then completely forgot about it by the time it started becoming relevent (crafting furled finger remedies).
@@buttqueef9900 I always go the opposite way I think the game wants me to go, so I can find secrets etc., and then get back on path. I guess this time I just kept going...
EDIT: Also, I don't think that's correct - I never had a problem accessing the rest of the map before I found the castle.
@@buttqueef9900 there is a way around Stormveil Castle on the right side, it's very well hidden but it's there.

Just got his set , cant believe he just sat there waiting to die he was like the only NPC i have no intention of killing :c
Deathblight will do that to a guy who can't revive anymore
I just feel bad that he is the only one that speaks to us like a regular human being to one of his actual friends.
Lol i missed so much in my first playthrough, i simply thought that he had his legs grafted by Godrick and never figured out what his connection with D and deathroot was, even less with Ranni.
●There actually is a Blood Stain of Rogier's death, didnt notice my first playthough, i had multiplayer turned off and wondered who died infront of the face
The first npc helping us with the first main boss
Rogier fell into a slumber just like Fia did near the end of her quest line in deep root depths. Maybe there is a connection
About the slumber of Ranni and Rogier just mean one thing.
RANNI WAS ROGIER ALL ALONG
Great stuff! I am hereby subscribed
not sure if you missed it or just cut it from the video but theres a white text next to where you find the pustule that if you interact with it shows how rogier gets the curse on him. Its quiet unique and somewhat hidden.
It's actually a bloodstain that shows him being infected with deathblight. We already mention in the video why he's dying but we probably should have snagged some footage of the bloodstain.
The whole death faction really is one of my favorites
“Rogier is rather skilled”
Bro did nothing when I was fighting margit

Just another character I wish lived long enough to high five at the end 😢.
Thanks for this video, I was searching for something to watch.
My friend keeps calling him uncle Roger
What of the buzzing near to where Rogier is siting? its like bugs are eating his legs
I’m at new game plus 8 btw and I choose the same ending every damn time. Chaos consumes all so we can start fresh
Not sure if it's unknown or just unimportant, but I've never heard anyone mention the eyes in the tree stumps having eyes. Specifically the ones where you fight the mariner
I wish I had seen this earlier. I'm now realizing I have locked myself out of his questline.
The scales are more likely from Fortissax as he’s in the deathbed dream, as much as I like this theory I just think there’s too much going against it
@@declicitous1763 ah that's true. Yeah it's a neat idea I just dont know how much uncontroversial evidence there is to support it
I kept going to avenge roger but in the end I lost my way and became the lord of frenzied flame
I would love having death flames that the omen use but as an incantation that coats our sword, we would spray it on our weapon like them. Another one would be death flames in a forward motion out of our mouth, like the omen. It would do holy damage, like the eclipse shotel
Personally I would love to have ghostflame that the death rite bird use as an incantation or sorcery.
@@TrickyMellow you actually can, one spell explosive ghostflame
@@colorgreen8728 yeah I know, but what I mean is I want more than that single spell. Like ghostflame bolt that can be cast repeatedly (think of pebble), weapon enchanment or something instead of that singular aoe spell we currently have.
@@TrickyMellow I’d absolutely love that too, it would be amazing to have in the game! I wish that the rancor spells actually did frostbite as they are pretty much ghostflame, but I’d love weapon enchantment and stuff like that a whole bunch

I held that sword with me, though I was a mage.
did you know that one of the bloodstains around Godwyn's corpse is one of Rogier's? Its easier to notice if you play offline - it shows him being impaled by thorns
Both characters got the deathbed companion treatment from Fia, and she is talking about that Rogier is laying next to her
Maybe those faces are failed manifestations of Godwyn? Due to him lacking a soul ofc, manifesting properly is doomed to fail.
I kept waiting to see if you'd click the bloodstain to show how Rogier got hit with deathblight, but... :(
We had footage that ended up on the cutting room floor. Kind of an oversight on our part
A 🫡 for Rogier
He's the main character. Our life is just a spinoff in his.
If you wonder why he is really cursed if you go to the Godwyn face under stormveil castle their is a bloodstain and if you touch it he is impaled by a scarlet rot weapon that is a spear I say commander o,neil did it
My first reaction was "wait, Rogier has a questline?"
Completely missed it
this hero saved me against margit - i own him a lot
then he gave me his blade - i used it a lot
the best NPC in elden ring for me
Obviously he is Rogier, blade of spell...
Great lore.😺
I don't think he'd be jazzed about that ending. He wanted to cure those who live in death, not necessarily spread death across the lands between.
@@square-table-gaming Understandable. But yet I don't know if any ending frees those who live in death.
@@square-table-gaming Ah and thank you for your super quick answer. It determines my way on viewing the possible endings. Maybe the Elden Lord shall become mad because of Rogier's death and will curse everyone lol
2nd playthrough I realized he was kinda cool. His death is just to from npc standard to make me sad though.
I thought he (godwyn) was murdered in the 1st location in stormveil then the mutated corpse we see later is where he was buried.
He was and it is. Godwyn's corpse is spreading through the lands between like a cancer. This face is a piece of his corpse that's branched off.
@@square-table-gaming thanks for clearing up my confusion.
@@Livingshadow2009 That's what we're here for!
A truley good lad
Just struck me as a guy struggling with a terrible form of IBS.
Now the question is, had Rogier not been paralyzed, would he have stayed loyal to Fia, or would he turned on Fia in favor of serving Lady Ranni?
Likely Fia since he believed those who live in death were a victim of circumstance.
