    Very clear instructions and very easy to follow! Fitted the stalk in less than half an hour!
    Needed to fit the additional wire, which was again pretty straightforward apart from getting the wiper arms off! All working and tested. I bought a second hand genuine stalk and a separate cable both purchased from eBay for £20 all in.

    Thank you so much taking the time to make and upload this video. Managed to get the OEM stalk from ebay for £20 then had my friend do the coding for a pint. It's working perfectly I'm so happy.

    I have just done this Mod today on my MK5, Golf TDi (55 plate)
    I got the Meyle cruise control Stalk off eBay for £34.99
    On Borrowing A VagCom computer. I had the video in front of me and followed you step by step.
    Absolutely spot on with instruction. Cannot give you enough praise.

    I did this on my 2010 Mk6 GTI today. Thanks so much for the video. It's really helpful. The hardest part was removing the airbag. I struggled for probably an hour and eventually had to get the girlfriend to help. The thing is the airbag isn't just held in my those metal springs, it's also held in by plastic push fittings inside. So while you do have to release the metal springs, you have to pull really bloody hard to get it out. Be careful, though, because the wires inside aren't that long. After that the rest was fairly easy as far as pulling plastic parts off cars goes. Everything worked and I think the Meyle stalk actually feels nicer than the original VW one.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  4 года назад

      The airbag springs are easy when you know how. I am pretty sure I've done a Mk6 (or Scirocco) and don't recall pulling too hard. Did you use a mirror to see the springs?

    • @gpk6458
      @gpk6458 4 года назад

      @@volkswizard Yeah I used a mirror. I don't think I would have had a chance without a mirror. I could see exactly what needed to happen with the springs, and sometimes they would stay "up" for a while but then quickly ping back down when I tried the other side. It was really clear it was being held in by more than just the springs. So nothing for it except a really, really good tug and don't think I ever would have managed on my own.
      I've read online there may be a couple of airbag manufacturers for Mk6s, so maybe I got the difficult one?

    One tip for getting the airbag out use your flat head driver and place it in the cut out on top and put it on top of the black piece which is the clip and pry it to the centre of the steering wheel, really quite a easy step once you know the orientation of said clip.

    Hi guys, ive retrofitted cruise control to my Edition 30, with a febi stalk. Afterwards ive coded the steering controller which is accepted, but when trying to code the engine module and tick the box to enable cruise control in the long coding, it accepts the code but if I go back in, it's reverted back to 00 again. No error codes for my modules and everything works on the stalk except CC. I read that I might need to go into the 'coding 2' section but it's greyed out for me. I dont know the code for the security section if I need to access via that route?
    I've also checked the cruise control stalk in the measuring blocks on both the engine and steering module and all the switches show as working, as does the clutch switch when I operate it and watch the measuring blocks change.
    Is it a VCDS issue maybe? Does anyone have genuine VCDS in the Aylesbury, Bucks area that could see if they can activate my cruise control in the Engine module?
    Cheers in advance

    Hi, excellent video. Helped me a lot to reprogram steering control module , had to replace it due to faulty code. Car is still not running, cranks fine. Crankshaft sendor ok, plugs spark ok, fuel pump ok, . Everything was fine but after replacing fuel filter and fixing vacuum leak, it didn’t start. The car has been parked for over a month for service and water pump replacement.
    Is there any inhibitor switch on golf mk5 GT which is resisting it to start?
    On Vcds it showed only steering control module fault. Can you please help? What should I be looking for on Vcds?
    Battery was very low so I charged it couple of times. During charging , Once I mistakenly connected wrong terminal to battery due to very dark, which resulted in a blown fuse on charger. I checked all the fuses with tester and also changed old one with new, and they are ok. Anything I should else be looking for?

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  6 лет назад

      I am not sure modern cars can handle batteries being connected the wrong way around so it's possible (not definite) that you might have damaged the ECU. Has the car started since you did that?

      @@simonmurphy9876 It's pretty much identical on an early mk6, on later cars the left and right stalks are one piece and there is no control module underneath, it's all controlled by the slip ring/steering angle sensor in the middle. I recently tried to install cruise on a 2016 Scirocco. The control module took the cruise settings OK but it wouldn't actually work so do a lot of homework on which parts you need.

      Hi John. Thanks for commenting. You do actually need to code the steering control module and the engine ECU but these can be done by anyone with VCDS. You could even do this well before you install the part if that's convenient as I am pretty sure that wouldn't cause any problems apart from maybe log a harmless fault code.

    I have a gti edition 30 2007 with highline cluster and steering wheel buttons and want to install cruise control. Am I right in thinking all I need to buy is the cruise control stalk? • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  5 лет назад +1

      Steering control module is quite likely on that year, you shouldn't need to mess around with wires though. I fitted cc to a 2007 Edition 30 using just the stalk, the steering module accepted the CC coding OK, light even came on on cluster but CC wouldn't work until steering module swapped - really annoying! • @volkswizard

      Hi there. Even on A3 8L the throttle is managed by the ECU so once you have the stalk fitted and wire connected to the ECU, you need to recode the ECU using VCDS to tell it to look for a cruise control input. I am pretty sure there are some guides out there. I fitted it to an 8N TT which is pretty much the same car.

    Just about to add cruise to my 2009 Scirocco which is basically the same as the Golf as I know its not so easy on models after 11/2009. The kit I have ordered says it has a cable with it too, do you know where I am supposed to add this cable please.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  4 года назад +1

      The cable runs from steering column to ECU under the bonnet. I'd be amazed if you need it though so code the Steering Electronics ECU for cruise before you start and if you don't need it, it will accept the coding and you can then just do what I did in the video. I wouldn't bother fitting cruise if I had to fit the wire as it's such a pain but might just be me.

    Thanks for the guide. If I code the ecu for cruise control and it accepts it does that confirm that I have the cable running between the steering wheel control module and the ecu or is the only way to confirm to take it all apart?

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  4 года назад +1

      That's a good question. If you code the engine ECU for cruise, this may not prove you have the cable. Likewise, if you code the steering control module. The reason for this is that you are accessing these modules via the existing diagnostic cables, the bit you want is to to go from steering column module to ECU and not sure how to test that. If your car is post 2006 model year you will almost definitely have the cable. I've never fitted the cable so unsure as to how to know for sure. Also if your car came with a cruise compatible steering module, then there is a good chance it will have the cable. Best of luck.

      @alexwilkes6422 4 года назад

      volkswizard Finally got round to doing this. The car had a compatible steering module and accepted the coding so chanced taking it all apart and the cable was there. A bit of forum digging suggested the cable became standard at some point in 2006 (its a 06 car).

      Thanks Roger. I haven't got time to review the video know but I knew at the time 2011 onwards for Golf 6 and Scirocco there was a change in the stalk as it went from each side separately to a combined left and right stalk presumably to save VW money. Just checked and it's stated clearly in the description of the video

    if you put a mark across the wheel bolt and steering wheel with tipex or marker pen, before you remove it, you'll know how much to tighten the wheel bolt when you re-install it and it'll act as another alignment mark. They use this trick when installing replacement side windows to avoid over tightening the window grip bolts and potentially breaking the window.

    Hi brilliant diy video I'm going to install cruise to my golf mk6 r 2012 the bit I'm concerned about is this cable that runs to the ecu i went into vag com and it had the option to select cruise control location on steering wheel setting is this likely it already has the cable running to the ecu?

    • @volkswizard

      I think Mk6 have cable so your issues are having a compatible module (built into slip ring IIRC) and getting a stalk which being left and right stalks in one is quite dear (but worth it)

      Not sure about OBDeleven pro but of you can do coding it should be OK. The beauty of VCDS is that is doesn't give you the coding options (on most cars). Is the coding in the video? Should be. I don't have the car any longer so can't extract it but it should be on the web somewhere.

    Hi, my 2005 Golf Mk5 cruise control has stop working, I've checked everything and all seems to be fine, my final result being that the stalk needs to be change, my question is?, do I need to buy the same part number as the one already installed, in vagcom the control module for steering at info shows as being 1K0953513F but I see so many parts out there that have sa same 1KO....... But la last letter is A or G or etc.... Is there any coding required for this. Thank you and excuse my lack of knowledge.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  4 года назад

      The part number you quote is for the control module. If your stalk is defective you just need to change stalk, don't touch the control module. I am pretty sure any Mk5 cruise stalk will just plug and play but I'd get the Meyle one.

    • @volkswizard

      First thing to do is tell the steering control module you are fitting a stalk as many won't allow this and will say coding not accepted. If it accepts coding you should (but not always) be OK so fit stalk, then login and tell engine ECU you have fitted cruise. The coding is all provided by VCDS as you go along so not something I can tell you. This is useful wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Steering_Wheel_Control_Module_Versions
