  • I bought some bar end mirrors from eBay for about £10 so here's a video of some of the problem I had fitting them and how they perform. All in all they're pretty good - no complaints for the price. Just a bit of a fiddle to fit

    Great video mate! I'm considering buying some ebay specials for my bar end mirrior needs on the Ducati. $30 (usd) for both vs Rizoma asking $120 USD EACH! A lot of downsides though. You've given me a lot to think about.

    Just a quick tip.. tried loads of these types of bar ends .. the trick it's to pre squeeze the rubber by holding the nut with a spanner and screw in and when it starts to tighten, ... Slip it in to end of bars and complete tighting..

    wait you replaced the mirrors because of that extra space just to ammount new mirrors and extend the bar? whats the purpose then? just say its for the optics

    Hi Bob, me again. I wanted to know if the bar ends interfere with filtering heavy/tight traffic? You you noticed a difference or not.?

    • @motobob
      @motobob  7 лет назад +2

      Hey Adam! If you have them pointed inwards like mine, then it's not particularly different. The bar end part actually protrudes less than the bar ends that I had before, so in that respect it's a little better. The main advantage when you're filtering is that you can go under van, bus, and lorry mirrors that my old stalk mirrors would hit so I had to fold them in, so I think overall they're way better for filtering.

    I got what looks like the same pair of mirrors for my Street Twin. I've not tried fitting them yet, but I do know for sure that the Bonnies have different bar ends, so these will need a bit of modification to get them to fit. The genuine Triumph parts plus bar end finishers are £100 all in, so if I can get the £10 ones to work then thats a huge saving. Otherwise, I'll see if I can find a pair of third party mirrors specific for my bike.
    Which bar end mirrors did you get for your Street Twin?

    • @Mikey__R
      @Mikey__R 5 лет назад +1

      I've actually just found the solution, using bar end weights rather than the included expanding inserts:
      www.squaredeals-ltd.co.uk/street-twin-cup-anti-vibration-bar-end-weights-2016on-44520-p.asp
      The weights are more expensive than the mirrors, so I'll probably see if the mirrors OK before I pull the trigger on them.

    I bought pretty much the sames ones from ebay. left went on fine, right was causing my throttle to stick, and would move with the throttle movement. So went back to the ones I had before.

    • @motobob
      @motobob  7 лет назад

      +duckeehhh sounds like your grips are ever so slightly overlapping the end of the bar. Have you tried just pulling the mirror back out by 1mm or just enough to clear the grip before tightening up the bolt? Should be fine then

    • @motobob
      @motobob  7 лет назад

      If that doesn't work, a couple of washers with 22mm outside diameter (search eBay) could go on the bolt between the rubber bung and mirror to give you a little bit of space to clear the grip. Not sure what internal diameter though - big enough to fit the bolt through. Just measure the bolt's diameter in mm

    These do not fit an XSR900. I bought these from eBay. The Yamaha bars have a threaded female section which doesn't allow the rubber bung on these mirrors to pass through the bar it's self.

    • @motobob
      @motobob  5 лет назад

      Super annoying. The bars are a bit unusual on my new bike (triumph street twin) too so I’m not sure universal bar ends would fit either. I guess manufacturers make it this way so they can sell more of their upgrade parts?

    He had them the wrong way round. The straight edge goes to the inside. If he'd have done it the would have been able to fit them underneath.

  • @marcincieslak1961
    @marcincieslak1961 5 лет назад +1

    Could have just glued the rubber to the bolt and then held it on a light angle when tightening so the rubber was pressed against inside edge of the bar. Simples.

    Strange comments here Bob, what is wrong with them lol I could see the mirrors fine, great vid. I was looking at what is probably an updated version of these, more modern design but same price and finish by the looks of it. I ended up ordering some other that look decent and should look ok on my bike, slightly more after postage, I hope the bungs work better lol

      I'll glue them in place if I have to lol sugru is one of my favourite things to use, that will sort them out. I'll probably use sugru to block the hole from the originals too, as I can't find any block off plates.

    I bought the same mirrors for my Firestorm, they were garbage, and although I managed to tighten them up on the bar, they just flopped all over, and with no way of tightening the knuckle against the mirror socket, they were utterly atrocious.... Oberon all the way.

    • @motobob
