He only wanted to discover how to create a time machine, so he could go back in time to see the Japanese Shaman Girls. World War 3 was all just a clever ruse, a means to an end, to one day see the Japanese Shaman Girls in all their beauty. Especially the Japanese Shaman Boy Girl.
Okabe: "Leskinen why are you do this!?" Maho: "Professor I looked up to you, I can't believe I've been lied to this whole time. Why?" Leskinen: "One very simple reason. The Shaman Girls"
"Lintahro..." *Holds gun up to Okabe's head.* "But Leskinen, why are you do this!?" "I'll ask you one more time then. Where are the Japanese Shaman Girls... LINTAHRO!?" "NANI!?"
Leskinen is cool. It's just sad that they didn't tried to make the reveal less obvious, or that they didn't used him more. I just wanted to hear him say Lintahro a couple of times more :c
Yep, and they kinda butchered all his intentions. I mean, he's definitely not a good guy in the Visual Novel, but there at least he and Startfor are trying to avoid the nuclear war and profit from it, not just experimenting for no valid reason.
@@lucasfranke5161 That is kind of the sad part. In the VN Reyes fills the stereotypical villain role while Leskinen is actually extremely pragmatic. He knows he is committing atrocities but he believes he will be saving lives by limiting the damage of an unrestrained time travel-related conflict. It’s why he goes so far in order to study Reading Steiner, because a time machine without a way of perceiving changes to history is too dangerous. Basically Reyes wanted super soldiers, Leskinen was just trying to limit the proliferation of time machine technology in a way no country could alter history to their total advantage (we see an example of this when the Soviet worldline is born, and the moment Leskinen gets his hands on Okabe the worldline reverts back, hinting that Leskinen and Stratfor helped revert the damage).
As a “sci-fi” nerd/fan, he was a pretty cool villain, but he was so much better in the VN, just watch a play through, or try to get the Leskinen ending

Some people said they didn't hide the plot twist in the anime. I somewhat agree because of his appearance, but his personality sometimes seemed less sus
They might become friends in the Steins Gate World Line because it was mentioned (at least in the anime) that Okabe’s relationships with the people he meets essentially are the same, or at least entangled very tightly. So Okabe probably meets Maho and Leskinen 6 months into the future of the Stein’s Gate World line when Kurisu introduces them to Okabe. And then Okabe decides to go to college and sometime even later, Leskinen docks his points because he didn’t get to see the shaman girls, and Okabe will feel betrayed 😂
Technically they did hid it well, depending of what VN route you take first. Taking the Kagari branch first he is actually very upstanding, even downright caring. He is even killed defending Maho in one of the endings. The only clue we ever get in those three endings of him being shifty is the voice from the man who kidnapped Kagari in her flashback, suggesting he is responsible for kidnapping her in all worldlines.
Leskinen must be really angry for not being able to obtain Shaman Girls

"NANI!?"
“You’re on the darkest worldline, Linthalo..
you should of given me the shamen girls.”
Is "you're on the darkest worldline" an actual quote from the game? Just curious
@Antinomic Source he doesn't
Okabe "You are really the mad scientist !"
Leskinen "Oh , it is the best praise !"
This conversation is same as the one of Kurisu and Okabe.
