Gentle reminder Ange has only had 58 games and one of the youngest squads in the league having traded something like 40 players in/out of the club. Expecting consistency right now is silly. In my opinion he needs at least 100 games and another couple transfer windows to develop that squad. Maybe even more to be honest. Until then the club is just figuring out where we are. If we get to 100 games this season it means we've gone deep into the cup competitions. Chances are it will be next season and we will see if there's seriously concerning patterns, or clear improvements.
I know there is the narrative (that tbf Postecoglu kind of promoted himself) that his teams tend to do well in the second season, but I think it might take 3 with this Spurs team. Partly why the Man Utd fans were patient with Ten Haag is that it's kind of difficult to see who would be a good choice to take over at this point anyway. I thought Amorin would have been good for Spurs as a Back 3 would work with Spurs I think as Udioge and Porro would be better just getting up and down as attacking wingbacks. Then they could have Maddison/Kulu or Son behind Solanke with Johnson coming off the bench and two energetic players in Bentancur and Sarr. As it stands though, I think give him at least the chance to start a third season as I think he's starting to understand the challenge that he'll face at Spurs. I know Levy is usually quite trigger happy when it comes to firing managers too, but I honestly think he'll wait with Ange as he seems to be working well with Johann Lange and giving chances to the youngsters which is clearly a club policy at the moment in terms of the next few years as Spurs were also linked with quite a few other 18 year olds during the summer. It's weird though as on-paper the team is quite decent, but that Spurs mentality of being consistently inconsistent and always being "Doctor Tottenham" (as in you haven't won all season or there's a player who hasn't scored in 25 games? Dr Tottenham will see you now) seems ingrained in the club. The one thing I like about Ange is he's constantly talking about trying to change the mentality and that will take a while to do and maybe another transfer window. Spurs need at least a good option to cover LB and LCB along with maybe a better deep lying playmaker and probably two great wingers to get anywhere near the top 4 on a consistent basis

Spurs have had 4 Europa League games, and have lost the following game after 3 of them. The only exception was when they beat Man U after a facile home win Vs Qarabag. They dont have the squad depth to be consistent in the league AND mount a decent tilt at a cup. Their backup options everywhere are too weak.
Tottenham have quality players but their confidence is fragile, when they have confidence they are a joy to watch and a formidable team, when they lack the confidence it seems to spread through the team. The second half against Villa was astounding and then there was this disappointment against Ipswich. Following Spurs is a rollercoaster ride. Tottenham have the second best goal difference in the league.
In the last 10 years of the premier league there has been one dominant team and then a host of teams that had a mix of somewhat close to not at all. Liverpool beat them in a year that had many challenges for a host of reasons. The conversation or statement that is most interesting is "you can't win that/this way in the premiership". The last 10yrs would suggest that unless you are Manchester City you can't actually win playing any other style of football. You can compete for top 4, but unless you are able to create a squad of comparable talent you actually won't ever get close playing any style. Arsenal who have had a couple of good years, started on a journey that had some stinkers, but now have a squad with players who were actually expensive 50/50 purchases who worked out. Odegaard wasn't seen as the player he is now. Even for Liverpools success, no one saw Salah being the elite player he has become at the time of purchase. So essentially to compete with City in the past 10yrs, you need 2-4 excellent 50/50 purchases that turn out, and then a couple of very young players that also work out. If those 50/50 purchases fail you look like United or Spurs. Great one game, average the next.
This is a personnel issue, not a style issue. The players simply aren't good enough to challenge at the top end of the table. Where Ange is culpable for me is through his mixed messaging in the media. Some weeks its a process where we have to be patient and then other weeks we are a title challenger and he is "disappointed we didn't win anything last year." You can't have it both ways. If you set the expectations high and then don't deliver, the fans will turn and the club is institutionally too fragile to handle that and ultimately the manager is the one who gets the scalp. We've seen it time and time again.
It's only 10 games in, we have 28 games to go plus cup matches. I think we'll be fine. This is just a hurtful outcome for Spurs fans (me) because we gave two teams who were winless their first wins, forever feeding into the "spursy" tag we get battered with. This also comes after a pretty dismal performance in Turkey where we looked like we couldn't keep possession even if it was tied to our ankle. Ange will sort it out, I have faith he will, but it just hurts right now until we get the chance to set it right.
Saying everyone else this or everyone else that doesn’t work with me, Ange’s system is about taking ownership of one’s role within a very attacking system, prone he admits to counter attacks, there’s more pressure on players because of his system, so if they’re not playing for Ange or themselves, they’re going to concede more and score less, that’s what’s being discussed, not what everyone else is doing.

I've never understood why Spurs would play a high line against side's who is playing with a low block. Basically you've got no space in which to penetrate the opposition. Surely it would be more benefical to drop a bit deeper and then activate the press. Also, wouldn't that also negate the oppositions chance of the counter attack?
The high line is supposed to facilitate a full team press, making it difficult for the opposition to play out from the back, but it is extremely vulnerable to direct counter attacks if your offside trap fails. Like you mentioned, if the opposition is parking the bus anyway, the entire space on the opposition's half becomes super compressed, and it is difficult to achieve overloads in any area. Most teams know that by now and are willing to concede possession to Spurs as they can't do much with the ball anyways.

Reminds me of the days (pre parenting lol) where I would spend time reading The Guardian and feel my brain had enjoyed a healthy workout. When so much content around football is extremely repetitive, this was a well considered & multifaceted consideration of the ridiculousness that is my club, Tottenham Hotspur 😁
That's the opposite of what's happening. They're playing some games like a top 4 team and some games like a bottom four team. There's no middle ground. That's why the inconsisteny is highlighted.
Low effort troll. If Spurs won a single extra game they would be third with at least the second best GD in the league. Spurs are the team to win the most games from losing positions and lose the most from winning positions (I’m pretty sure). They are literally consistently inconsistent
I like Ange but I hope he can change 1. Vicario getting blocked (every setpieces and we conceded goals) 2. Poor defense 3. Same Plan A for mancity or Ipswich.
Spurs fans main problem is their obsession with Arsenal and the goalposts move accordingly along with their hopes and ambitions. Trophies never seem to matter so much when they finish above Arsenal (it’s kind of like a trophy for them when they do). And in the periods when they finish below Arsenal the emphasis then switches back wanting to win trophies. Levy’s speech at Cambridge university when he said how proud he was that spurs finished above Arsenal for 5 years pretty much sums him and the vast majority of their fan base up
What is not working is the players, they have a very slack attitude. They play Ange ball for 15 minutes here or there, but never for 90 minutes! This is the slackest, laziest most lethargic Ange Team I have seen since Melbourne part 1.
My summary not having actually watched the vid yet: works great against teams that try to come and play, fails horribly against teams that sit deep and close it up
What on earth am I watching. People talk about Ange ball as if it’s some brilliant philosophy. It’s complete nonsense. The guy can’t win an away game to save his life. We regularly don’t turn up and won’t compete. And he changes… nothing. Media darling getting the easiest ride ever.
Spurs need better options at every positions. The game ange plays is good but it needs individual excellece. One or two errors will directly lead to goal.
Spurs is not a very young team, what is he on about? This was the starting 11 versus Ipswich: Vicario (28) Porro (25) Romero (26) Dragusin (22) Udogie (21) Kulusevski (24) Bentancur (27) Sarr (22) Johnson (23) Solanke (27) Son (32)
he's just not as good at pressing as he probably should be, likely due to his age meaning he can't give it 100% for the full 90. He's great when we need a goal, but we shouldn't really be playing him from the start
@ this play style is strange in the sense that it causes chain reactions of simple passes to result in scoring positions. The same is true of our opponents though. When the press is broken, there’s often an obvious pass. When the press is blown completely, our defenders don’t get close enough to break the play up and it results in us conceding 2 goals to Ipswich..
The lengths people will go to to defend spurs being shit. The whole super league has warped peoples perceptions. This isn't big team Spurs having a slump. This is simply where Spurs are. And I swear to God, if someone says 'oh well their stadium is nice' again, I'm gonna cry. No one cares. An office having comfy chairs isn't a sign of quality and neither is Spurs having a shiny new stadium
Sorry I am not buying this is a young team, Romero, VDV, Porro, Maddison, Son, Werner, Solanke are not youth players anymore thats over half the team. They cant defend set pieces and Ange doesnt put any importance on it. They are too high and positionally they are all over ths shop. You cant just roll over teams in the prem. Look at Slot he looks at each team and tries to figure out their weakness and then setup to counter it you cant just say "this is who we are mate" and think this is going to work if teams know exactly how you are going to play its no wonder teams like Ipswich will figure you out
So because players aren’t in the youth team, they are no longer young? Out of the players you just mentioned, only Maddison, Werner, Son and Solanke are over the age of 26… Micky van de Ven is 23 for crying out loud! People have already written off Spurs victory over Man City because City played their “academy squad”. Even with their lineup change the average age of Man City’s lineup was 26. Spurs that game had an average age of 24.6. This is a young team in every sense of the word. Off the top of my head, there’s only two players over the age of 30 in the whole playing group and one of them is a backup goalkeeper.
I think their problems aren’t down to the manager or the system, it’s an attitude problem and I think it’s a captaincy problem. I love Sonny but I think he may be a little too good of a guy to light a fire under his teammates, nobody is taking a leadership role on the field and holding their teammates accountable. I think ultimately they’ll be fine because when they play well, which is most of the time, they’re great.
They started 10 of 11 first choice players this weekend. It’s been 18 months and other teams have ange’s system figured out. The defending is getting worse, not better. He was only hired because no one else (esp Slot) wanted the job.
I honestly think 95% of this is down to recruitment. Our summer window was shocking in retrospect, no LB or LCB backup, no RW backup, no backup keeper, no winger of world class level, two teenagers (but I do rate both of them). We know Ange wanted higher quality. If Pep had our squad he’d probably be the same, possibly a bit better. You don’t get to the top of the PL with a squad of nearly-men. Sadly Levy won’t commit to building a squad that genuinely competes at the top. This lack of ambition runs through the club and breeds a culture of accepting mediocrity e.g. Imagine Romero turns up at training and sees Dragusin playing for the first time, he sees a player that is nowhere near good enough or competing for his place, result - he can underperform with no consequences. Apply this across the 1st XI and you get complacency, fatigue, injuries and mediocrity.
Ange relies on gung ho football all out attacking football, and let's hope for the best attitude. Top teams have a strong, reliable defence and backbone. Which Ange doesn't do or abile to manage. Ange is stubborn and nieve with his tactics, system, and subs. Ange only signs unproven, unready young players he can't handle the experienced quality players. Ange Ball is flawed it only works against attacking teams if they get amongst Spurs. Ange Ball is negated. I fail to see how Ange can fully succeed at Spurs!
Porro, Romero, Vicario, Udoggie, Maddison.... Spurs fans have a near-delusional valuation of how good these players are. They are bang-average. Vicario is a keeper who will cost you 7-10 points in a season.
Charlie saying CL under Conte was disaster. Losing to AC Milan in last 16 how many times in history has Spurs been in last 16. 3 times? In 2019 and losing to Madrid with Redknapp and Juventus with Poch. Stop your bias on Conte. Ange got hard games coming up!!!

You having the same attitude as some of the squad that's our problem...
@@tariqamin7203 Yeah and I'd expect my manager to motivate me. THAT'S HIS JOB MATE. another clueless reply
14:15 KLOPP WON STUFF!!! What has Arteta won with his team? He won the FA Cup with EMERY’s Team!!!
Keep Ange, move on from Levy. Move some players on in the next two windows whose minds aren’t in it.
Didn't help Spurs cause that not one player who wore the shirt could manage four out of ten in the bbc match ratings. And that folks is a disgrace.
If spurs won against Leicester, Newcastle, palace and Ipswich. All were winnable games. They’d be sitting at 2nd 1 point behind Liverpool.
If they just beat Ipswich they'd be third.
I don't think Spurs are inconsistent. I think they're a mid table team playing like a mid table team
They have the second best GD in the division, consistency has definitely been an issue.
But they’re not a mid table team are they and they haven’t been for like 15 years
@chismilongo is clearly a 12yr old crying into his rice crispies
That's the opposite of what's happening. They're playing some games like a top 4 team and some games like a bottom four team. There's no middle ground. That's why the inconsisteny is highlighted.
Low effort troll.
If Spurs won a single extra game they would be third with at least the second best GD in the league.
Spurs are the team to win the most games from losing positions and lose the most from winning positions (I’m pretty sure). They are literally consistently inconsistent
I like Ange but I hope he can change
1. Vicario getting blocked (every setpieces and we conceded goals)
2. Poor defense
3. Same Plan A for mancity or Ipswich.
Certainly not so long may he continue.
let's see after the internationals. The captain mentioned how honourable to play for his own country. They had to reserve energy now.
@@akas224 I hope that’s a joke.
Better to watch angeball that conte ball
Spurs fans main problem is their obsession with Arsenal and the goalposts move accordingly along with their hopes and ambitions. Trophies never seem to matter so much when they finish above Arsenal (it’s kind of like a trophy for them when they do).
And in the periods when they finish below Arsenal the emphasis then switches back wanting to win trophies.
Levy’s speech at Cambridge university when he said how proud he was that spurs finished above Arsenal for 5 years pretty much sums him
and the vast majority of their fan base up
this podcast is more about the way they play - tactics, etc. thats just childish stuff.
What is not working is the players, they have a very slack attitude. They play Ange ball for 15 minutes here or there, but never for 90 minutes! This is the slackest, laziest most lethargic Ange Team I have seen since Melbourne part 1.
My summary not having actually watched the vid yet: works great against teams that try to come and play, fails horribly against teams that sit deep and close it up
We just can’t defend that is plain and simple
it is this way for every team bar liverpool ? why
What on earth am I watching. People talk about Ange ball as if it’s some brilliant philosophy. It’s complete nonsense. The guy can’t win an away game to save his life. We regularly don’t turn up and won’t compete. And he changes… nothing. Media darling getting the easiest ride ever.
No it's not working no plan b if plan a doesn't work more often than not we lose
Spurs need better options at every positions. The game ange plays is good but it needs individual excellece. One or two errors will directly lead to goal.
Spurs is not a very young team, what is he on about? This was the starting 11 versus Ipswich:
Vicario (28)
Porro (25) Romero (26) Dragusin (22) Udogie (21)
Kulusevski (24) Bentancur (27) Sarr (22)
Johnson (23) Solanke (27) Son (32)
Unpopular opinion, but I don’t think the team perform as well with Son playing.
Or maybe Ange doesn't know how to use Son. Any other team would have him in a heart beat
He’s either the striker or square peg in round hole. Solanke does ST role better as well
he's just not as good at pressing as he probably should be, likely due to his age meaning he can't give it 100% for the full 90.
Spurs are the third-youngest team in the Prem
They’ve conceded two goals from set pieces all season…
The average age is hardly an opinion piece, it's a statistical fact you peanut
Obviously not.
Beginning of the end ...
Spurs fan in a nutshell: "Maybe this could be our year?" Immediately lose next game. Fellas, it hasn't looked like being your year for a long time.
Want the f is angeball🤷🏻♂️
Ange relies on gung ho football all out attacking football, and let's hope for the best attitude. Top teams have a strong, reliable defence and backbone. Which Ange doesn't do or abile to manage. Ange is stubborn and nieve with his tactics, system, and subs. Ange only signs unproven, unready young players he can't handle the experienced quality players. Ange Ball is flawed it only works against attacking teams if they get amongst Spurs. Ange Ball is negated. I fail to see how Ange can fully succeed at Spurs!
I think the biggest problem with Spurs is it doesn't matter who is in charge lol. Spurs will still be Spurs, it's in our DNA.
What's his record AFTER his 1st ten games when Spurs were at the top of the league (39 games).......mid-table. (17 losses in 39 games)
No
Porro, Romero, Vicario, Udoggie, Maddison.... Spurs fans have a near-delusional valuation of how good these players are. They are bang-average. Vicario is a keeper who will cost you 7-10 points in a season.
Remember a spurs fan who rang Talksport to say ange and spurs were winning the EPL after just 7 games last season. And we call arsenal fans dwluded.
Such a Spuds thing to think it's better to get EL over CL
Charlie saying CL under Conte was disaster.
Losing to AC Milan in last 16 how many times in history has Spurs been in last 16. 3 times? In 2019 and losing to Madrid with Redknapp and Juventus with Poch.
Stop your bias on Conte.
Ange got hard games coming up!!!
Ange ball is a throwback to Ossie Ardiles except Aussie Ardiles.
The only stat that matters is points points we're falling off a ****ing cliff.
Levy re opens the manager vacancy on Indeed 😂 Spurs are as reliable as a Rail Replacement bus on Sundays
Last 39 games: 17W 5D 17L
2-1 build up system is pathetic. Ange ball is fraud
Lot of starting CB injuries in the last stretch last year contributed to the losses. VDV impacts Ws a lot
