    I can’t thank you enough. This video is so easy to understand and follow. I have no idea about photography. But i do know what i wish , people places and things to look like. This is my favourite vid . Excellent. And i just bought this lens. Your description of automatic was perfect. 🙏🏾 great pictures by the way

    Another brilliant video Neil. I always end up inspired and itching to get out shooting after watching your uploads. I've found myself becoming a little obsessed with foreground bokeh thanks to your videos. It might border on plagiarism but I love your style of shooting and I'm trying my best to adopt it into my own images. I am a keen hobbyist, but trying to replicate your ideas has helped me get off auto and explore the full potential of my camera, and I guess my own ability. Thank you for the inspiration. 👍

    Hi Neil, awesome video again. As a Canon shooter I would higly reccomend you to try oldone EF 85 f1,2. It is my sunflare king. I am in love with this lens for almost ten years and will never gonna to sell it. NEVER!!! :)

    I have this and the newer RF version. I have kept my EF version for the same reason why you purchased it because the flair is reduced in the RF version but the RF version is much sharper and exceptional for night and cinematic photography. No other lens comes close to it and its 85 version. But the EF version allows more flairing. If you are someone who likes the idea of using grain in your images, and you love to edit using the 'S' curve and lighting the the darks;, reducing a bit of clarity and creating more vintage-type looking portraits then the EF version would be the right one for you. I decided to keep mine because it has more character than the RF version. I normally use my RF for cinematic and night photography and for everything else but I specifically still use the EF for outdoors during sunny days due to that flair factor. EF may be an old lens but it has character and more versatility. Whereas my RF version is sharper, clearer, the AF is faster and much better but it is almost perfect and sometimes that can be a good thing and at other times it can't be a good thing, Once I got my RF three years ago, I have been getting offers for my EF from my mates. I won't ever depart with my EF.

    When I was on Canon, that 50mm 1.2 and the 135mm f2 were my favourite lenses, like you say, so much character.

    • @NeilRedfern

      @@NeilRedfern i use that gorgeous 135mm canon adapted with the MC 11, and it is some kind soft and had some like haze is you shoot against the sun, but works great and yes, it does have the same character has the 50mm 1.2, i got the zeis 1.8 55mm but i think i definitely choose the canon over the sony zeis.

    Man this makes me want to buy this lens again lol I had used it in the past with my A7RII when that was considered best Sony af. I’m curious now to test on an A7IV. Are you getting eye af and stuff? Did you keep the combo a year later?

  • @catchlite5196

    The Helios is still on my list. I have to admit, I am just an amateur so it doesn’t really matter wether I have AF. I already have a vintage Minolta MD 50mm f1.7, a Lensbaby Velvet 56mm f1.6 and the Mitakon 50mm f0.95. All of these lenses have awesome imperfections... I mean: character. For sharpness I use my Sony Zeiss 55mm f1.8. Love them all!! 😎

    Hi again, Neil. Another awesome video to add to your collection! The shots by the water with both the crystal & the later evening were my faves! I really enjoy all your BTS videos. But, now that I learned you can use Canon lenses with that Sony, & with the R6/R5 heat issues, do I need to change my evolution of thinking? Hmm...
    Question: Do you ever get harassed while out shooting in public?
    Hope all is well, regardless!

    • @NeilRedfern
      @NeilRedfern  4 года назад +1

      Thank you very much Richard! Very kind of you as always. Yes, the Canon lenses worked really well, not quite as good as native Sony lenses, but I'd say they were 90% of the way there. And no, I have never had any issues when shooting in public thankfully, as you can see I don't have loads of light stands and big equipment though so that probably helps

    super tuto and BTS explanations. i have a d750 (no eye detection, poor liveview shooting) and 35mm F/1.4. How do you set good exposure on face and eyes in natural light ? I would have used a flash in all your daylight scenes (as you did on night) to be sure having eyes correctly exposed which would have broken the mood and ambiance you added.

    • @NeilRedfern
      @NeilRedfern  4 года назад +1

      Hi Charles, no, so far this is the only Canon lens I have tried on my Sony. No, the lens didn't hunt at all really, it only struggled with focus when I was shooting in strong back light (the last natural light portraits in the video) but apart from that it was great

      @@NeilRedfern thanks for your reply. I am wondering if I should go with the A7III and the adaptor or the EOS R since the price point is the same. The A73 is much better camera than the EOS R but I wonder if it is reasonable and I am afraid that my canon primes will not work 100% well and reliably.

    the problem with Sony lenses is the image they produce, it is flat and very clinical. If you are a wedding photographer, you do not care about art and you can use Sony glass.
    But if you are a real photographer then the Sony glass is worthless.
