  • We go through how Robb Stark could have navigated events of Game of Thrones to eventually WIN and sit the Iron Throne. Does the Red Wedding still happen? What does Robb do with his mother Catilyn Stark? Can Robb make an alliance with Stannis Baratheon or Dorne? Does Robb execute Jaime Lannister before his mother frees him? How does this effect the Lannisters in Kings Landing?

      If Robb only had dragons and a magic sword and an army of Unsullied and Dothraki and the Golden Company, and the treasury of Casterly Rock at his disposal, he'd be unbeatable, except, no, he'd lose for the same reason he lost in the story - because he is the competent & loving older brother to a group of fantasy protagonists. He died for the same reason Uther Pendragon does, for the same reason that Uncle Owen & Aunt Beru get skeletonized, and James & Lilly Potter die when Harry is a baby - because the stakes are not the same if the heroes have a safe and secure home with a powerful protector to fall back on.
      Marrying Margaery is a strategy just like the ones I mentioned above. It's an Underpants Gnome Scheme, except the question is before the method. Step One = ?; Step Two = Marry Margaery Tyrell, Step Three = Beat everyone with the largest army in Westeros. The important bit is step one. How does he marry Margaery? Why does Margaery marry him? When the series starts, the Tyrells are looking to marry her to King Robert. They have their eyes on the Iron Throne, which Robb does not. They will never ever marry her to Robb unless they become extremely desperate in radically different circumstances, because Robb has no claim to the throne, and does not have dragons to get his novel dynasty established and accepted for a hundred years.

    I like the idea that when Robb learns about Catelyn letting Jaime go, he gets mad and to get back at her, he Legitimises Jon and releases him from his oath. When Robb knows he is entering a political game, he will probably want an uncorruptable friend at his side. Given that Theon betrayed him allready he will need a right hand man.

    I think that another way this could go down is that Robb betroths Rickon to Shireen to make a peace with Stannis at the wall. Then when Stannis dies fighting, the entire united front would rally around him as Lord Regent and fight to put Shireen on her throne. Not quite as awesome but still ends up with a Stark as King Consort and Robb essentially running the realm as regent, and later hand.

    • @taureansynner6993
      @taureansynner6993 5 месяцев назад +2

      I like that idea. Northerners act as Regents (as Kings Landing still has traitors loyal to Lannisters and others around) until Shireen/Rickon can rule in their own right, and Robb has Northern Independence as part of the agreement. I think, also as part of the agreement, The newly independent Northern Kingdom would be expected to provide security for the Northern part of the Westerosi Continental Kingdom ('6 Kingdoms').

    Had Robb or Cat been at least a bit politically savy in regards to the Vale, they could have very easily pull it to their side. People are unhappy with Lysa's decisions. The Royce, Waynwood, Templeton and Redfort are tied to the Starks. Yohn Royce has almost every important house in the Vale behind him and openly supports Robb. Nestor Royce, who holds the Gates of the Moon wants to marry Lysa for the regency of the Vale. Robb could just go there, gather the Vale bannermen and indirectly threaten Lysa, forcing her to declare for him. And Robb has a person with this exact knowledge, the Blackfish.
    I think he actually had a good chance of getting the alliance with the Ironborn by not sending Theon (makes him seem weak) and regarding Balon as a king. Something like "Great King Balon of the Iron Islands, hereby I offer you an alliance against the wicked Joffrey and Tywin. May you keep any land you may capture."
    Though, I think delaying the marriage is a good decision. Walder, nor Roose can do anything if Winterfell doesn't fall. They could be as mad as they want, but not really threaten Robb.

    How HBO Robb could’ve won:
    1. As soon as Catelyn arrives at his camp inserting her opinions to his captains on a war that she won’t be wielding a sword in, send her ass back to Winterfell and away from his war council. She has even less experience than he does. As the heir apparent, he was taught diplomacy, warfare, and strategy from day one. She received her training from a septa to be a proper lady, not a warrior.
    2. Instruct his soldiers and stewards not to obey any of her orders, and that they should only be there to protect Winterfell until he sends word otherwise.
    3. The end

    Change after you get to the Littlefinger part:
    After Littlefinger marries Catlyn his plan would be to help facilitate a formal treaty between Starks & Baratheons to unite the realm again. They agree, and its laid out that after the war, the Starks get an independent North and part of the riverlands. Stannis claims everything south of the Twins down to Dorne. Vale will be part of the Barratheon claim . Their alliance is formalized by the marriage alliance of Shireen & Robbs first born with the Frey girl.
    Stannis takes the reach as Robb takes the iron islands before moving to casterly rock. The greyjoy uncles flee on their ships, and per Jon snow’s request, the wildlings who fought with them are able to settle the Iron Islands. Robb then takes casterly rock, seizing the gold reserves. Stannis hets vengeance on Mace & company by securing the reach. They take prisoners (Kevan Lannister, etc.) and re-group to march with their full might to take Kings Landing.
    BUT treachery; Little Finger had knocked up Catelyn, which would give him a stark heir, and he knew victory was eminent. So Stannis is poisoned before he could claim the throne he was righted to. The blame is pinned on captured Lannister hostages (which were freed by littlefinger to make it believable).
    Melisandre tries to resurrect him but fails, questioning her power. They send for Baric dondarrion and company to help resurrecting their fallen king. Without an Heir, Both Davos and Melisandre convince stannis’ army, already assembled, to finish what they started even without their king. Under robbs leadership , they sack Kings Landing.
    In kings landing, margaery convinced the faith militant to help them- given that a champion of the r’holor was outside their gates. They agree to settle their differences & Peasants were conscripted to fight. Cersei, as a last ditch effort , prepares to blow up Kings Landing with wildfire if need be.
    Fighting is bloody & chaotic, with many casualties. Berric dondarion and company are found with the brotherhood, including the hound, but are unsuccessful at resurrecting Stannis. This proves he was not who was promised. The Red witch then believes in Robb, as Stannis had, and believes that his grandchild, the product of Robb’s first born who marries shireen, was the prince promised.
    A group, including the hound, infiltrate kings landing with the mission of taking King tommen & cersei. The hound runs into the mountain for clegane bowl and are foiled. Both die. Arya tries her luck as a faceless man, and wearing the face of Jaime Lannister who died before, kills Cersei instead of capturing her (fulfilling her name off of her list). This prevents her from igniting the wildfire. Tommen sees this and commits suicide like the show.
    Robbs forces breach the walls & maergary & the high sparrow surrender the capital city. The war is won. Mellisandre wants to execute the the high sparrow For holy justice, but Robb refuses, realizing that they need to rebuild; not start a holy war. She reluctantly agrees. The only way to rebuild and heal, he realizes, is to become king over westeros. Like Jon he “doesnt want it” but his obligation is too great.
    Maergary was spared and so Tyrells live on. Kevin lannister bends the knee and myrcella is still in dorne so the lannisters live on (though they were booted from casterly rock, which Robb turned into an asset of the crown, which he plans to mine for gold to pay off the debts of the crown).
    After the war and Robb is made king, he rules. Arya is sent to help sansa in Winterfell to rebuild the north & put boltons in thier place again. Littlefinger plot to one day put him his son on the iron throne. But for now tries ti get Robb to make him hand. Robb instead names Davos his hand in honor of stannis, also choosing to name his second born Stannis Stark.
    All is well again until victarion Greyjoy, having made it essos, returns as a husband to dany. They have dragons and Tyrion, and although Tyrion tries to come to peace talks, war seems imminent.
    Luckily, robb had paid back the Iron Bank, so they have provided awesome Scorpions and catapults that can launch wildfire.
    There are a few small battles, including one where bran successfully wargs into one if Dany’s dragons, the one victorian was riding, & crashes it into a cliffside to kill it and victarion greyjoy. The experience is traumatizing for bran to suicide as a dragon, and he loses his warging powers for a time.
    Before they can finish their war, they receive word that the Night king has passed the wall, and is days away from Winterfell (where sansa is holding it down). Robb asks for danys aid, to put aside their fighting and to go help the north. With Tyrions help, dany agrees but under condition that kings landing is hers which wasnt Disagreed to. Dany, Robb, and thier armies go to fight, while davos stays to rule in Robbs absence. Tyrion stays to negotiate with him, and littlefinger and some of the other weaker ones stay behind to govern kings landing include catelyn stark and such.
    When they get to winterfell it is abandoned. Sansa and arya put up a good fight with the northern forces, but lost nonetheless.
    Robb and company, with 2 dragons, fight the nightking in open field. Its revealed that Jon and some if the surviving nights watch had retreated to the iron islands where they got the wildings to come help them. Robb is injured, one of danys dragon dies in the fight. The other; drogon, is hit with some night king spell that made it feral to even dany. Before it can kill her, Bran taps into it again, controlling drogon and using him against the night king. Drogon/bran takes out all of his generals, but the knight king kills him.
    Jon, in battle, sees a wight arya and kills her, igniting his sword and then he 1v1s the now alone night king and kills him.
    Jon and robb are both sad and tired of all the fighting. Robb agrees to recall his claim over kings landing if dany recognizes an independent north. She obliges after loses all of her dragons. They agree to unite thier houses one day. Jon returns to the wall after a brotherly hug. He is the lord commander until the day he dies
    Back in kings landing, catelyn dies in childbirth (shes old) trying to produce little fingers kid. The kid is dead and deformed with a little finger. Petyr is super sad. When Dany returns with rob, he takes him mom to bury her at winterfell. He bestows the iron throne to dany, who finally sits it. Davos and tyrion and messandi are all appointed council members. Littlefinger wasnt.
    In one last trick, littlefinger arranges to blow up the entirety of kings landing with the wildfire below. When Dany is away doing something else, he sits the throne, finally, and waits for the wildfire to catch. It does, and alll of kings landing is destroyed. Everyone there is dead- aside from dany who doesnt burn. She is finally seeing her vision.
    When king Robb hears of this, he sends care packages to try and help them down south. Dany comes to him, and they marry at winterfell, making him king of the realm, and the new capital city winterfell.

    Rob Stark was not able to get there in time to save his father, so it didn't matter that he used the Frey Bridge. He could have just taken his army south and crossed at the Ford. He did get several thousand Frey men with the marriage alliance, but Walder Frey was bannerman to Edmure Tully who Robb was going to help and Walder should have already sent those men to the Tullys. So Robb should have just threatened them to let him pass and send the men, or after they win then both armies return and wipe the Twin castles off of the map.

It would be bloody but it could work.

    I have a simple proposition.
    Have Robb immediately declare for Stannis after he kills Renly. As part of this alliance, Robb is betrothed to Shireen, heiress to the Crownlands AND the Stormlands. Refuse Walder's demands and storm the twins. Sure, Riverrun may fall, but that's potentially also good as Edmure and Hoster would die leaving Catelyn and by extension Robb as the Lords of the Riverlands. From there, coordinate with Stannis to win him the throne and simply wait for him to die meaning Robb and Shireen and their stark kids would control The North, Riverlands, Crownlands and Stormlands. This is more or less how the Habsburgs came to control half of western europe in the 1500s
    Well, until Dany shows up ig.

    Although we do not know for sure, it is more reasonable to think Robb was a virgin before Jeyne/ Talisa, than the alternative. in one of Bran's POV chaoters, he overhears Theon talking about some of the Winter town's whores to Robb, and whilst i can't remember the exact phrasing he phrases the conversation like "have i ever told you about her", "she does this", "she sounds like that"... things Robb would know if he had joined Theon in his whoring.

    @Provos7777 5 месяцев назад +1

    If the North was going to declare independence, Robb should have remained in the North & played defense. Would have been a suicide mission for the Lannisters & powerful allies like the Tyrells never would have joined them. Robb could have put a strong garrison at Moat Callin, send a strong force to reinforce Deepwood Motte in case of Ironborn encroachment, & Winterfell never would’ve fallen. From Winterfell, Robb could have negotiated a proper alliance with the Reach & Dorne through marriage for himself & siblings.
    Going to the actual story - Number 1. Robb never should’ve declared himself King in the North, that immediately made Stannis an enemy.
    Number 2 - Robb never should have sworn an oath to the Frey’s.
    Number 3. Never sent Theon to treat with Balon
    Number 4. Never gave Roose Bolton command of the infantry
    Number 5. Never executed Rickard Karstark
    Number 6. Should’ve kept Catelyn far away from his camp.

    All Robb needs to do is to go east to Harrenhall and crushed Tywin ( after he defeated Jaime )
    He has 33k men vs Tywin 20k , and his men had much more experience because they fight in Robert's Rebelion while Tywin didn't, and they know the terrain far better ( the riverlords)

    • @PalpatineIsAJew
      @PalpatineIsAJew 5 месяцев назад

      Yes but Tywin has Harrenhal which is a huge advantage and Tywin would get time to set up its defences its possible but even with more men the odds are still pretty balanced, his strategy was good he aimed to keep Tywin in the Riverlands so the one true king Stannis could take Kings Landing but Edmure mucked up the plan. He then makes an excellent strategy to retake the North and rid it of Ironborn scum however he is killed soon after. He thinks he needs the Freys men but I think he has more than enough to take out the Iron Islanders since they leave the castles with under 100 men, he should have gone North and Stannis is gonna arrive anyway to protect the Nights Watch, bends the knee to Stannis, who has unlimited gold from the Iron Bank, together I believe they defeat Jamie in the RIverlands, the Tyrell-Lannister alliance will crumble thanks to Cersei and Varys. Stannis can hire some sell swords and boost their numbers, I guess they could take out the Westerlands or retreat back North to prepare to face The Others and prepare the North. The problems would then be Aegon, who could win Dorne and Highgarden, and Euron Greyjoy and his absolute menacing plans and the the threat of Dany. Though there is a theory that Stannis accepts Targaryen restoration as inevitable and bends the knee to Aegon.

      @@PalpatineIsAJew First I don't think Tywin will hide out in the Harrenhall because he dosent have supplies according to Emmon Frey , the riverlords had burn the fields to starve his army , also that will make him look weak in front of his lords
      And even if he dig himself down in Harrenhall, than his entire army would be surrounded and powerles to protect anything, and will eventualy starve inside
      Second ,no Robb dosent bent the knee to Stannis, Stannis do not want a Targheryan restoration, etc
      This is a story about people who are seen as good or honorable by different pov , fight because of their contradictory views of what is right
      And we are în at the 5 out the seven book , and the others are still just a idea ,the only reason we still think of the is because we see them in the show , because the books had not really get there

    3:00 I have literally been saying this same thing for years. So whoever told you that is right. Walder Frey, if you look at his character and history, no way in hell he would have backed Rob if the opponent is Tywin and the Lannisters. Also a bunch of Freys were literally Lannisters already too. This is why I have said that Rob's mistake was actually going to the wedding. Thats it.
    And tbh, if we just use basic common sense here... you met a girl's father, said you'd marry her without meeting her. Change your mind but decide to let another member/ lord of your family marry her instead... how tf does that condemn you as some disrespectful dude worthy of being slaughtered by the girl's dad? Clearly the girl's dad was never worth a damn if thats what he did.

    • @M.L.official
      @M.L.official 3 месяца назад +1

      I think walder was an opportunist and got better backing by tywin. He and Roose are similar in that they just want their army in tact and to chill out. I honestly think if Robb fully dedicated himself to banging Roslin (and crucially, not losing the Karstarks), Walder wouldn't have betrayed him. I'm not sure if Walder knows about the Bolton's plans as well, I assume not, but it's like this, you have 20k odd soldiers on your doorstep. You have similar numbers, maybe more down south with the Lannisters. The vale is potentially going to be involved soon, wouldn't want to piss them off, things are a lot more uncertain and tywin can't promise him anything, he doesn't even have the biggest army.
      If you can get the vale into the fold, now you're cooking with uranium.

    Robb smashes but realizes his oath to Lord Frey is worth more than keeping the sanctity of his marriage bed and still plans on marrying a Frey. Although he feels immense guilt after abandoning Jeyne once he hears she’s with child. After taking Jaime and liberating Riverrun, he hears of the greyjoys in Winterfell and plans to go North again to secure it. Cat lets Jaime go and Robb sends Karstark after him to kill him seeing as Sansa is the only potential trade since Ned is confirmed dead and Arya is MIA. Cat is sent to White Harbor and Robb takes Blackfish north and pushes the greyjoys out. Blackfish helps secure the support of the Vale (Vale lords support Robb and are disgruntled with Lysa). Stannis shows up and together with Robb reinforces the Wall. Jon wins the support of the wildlings and together with Stannis, Robb, and the Blackfish, repel the Others with Jon being revealed as Azor Ahai (idk how this could be achieved but I like the idea of Jon plunging Longclaw into a wight Arya and fulfilling the prophecy in that way like someone else mentioned). Bran and Sam confirm Jon’s parentage to him and Robb. Robb legitimizes Jon as a Stark instead of a Targaryen and creates a pact with Stannis making Jon marry Shareen and be named heir in exchange for the North staying in the 7 kingdoms under Stannis as King. Stannis dies in the war to come against Dany+greyjoy+Dorne army but ultimately Jon sits the throne and legitimizes Robbs child with Jeyne and makes him his ward and eventual heir since shareen is likely infertile.
    Also in their version, Tywin lives initially since Jamie can’t free Tyrion, Tyrion is executed and after the war house Lannister is no more.

    Robb's goal was never to win the Iron Throne by conquest obviously. but if it had been, i think he would have tried harder to court some other houses. Maybe offered to marry Arianne Martell. she's the only real unwed option I can think of that's of a major house. If he doesnt' go for independence, he has no reason to offer Balon a crown. instead Robb would offer the potentially more enticing option of Balon being able to keep his plunder from taking KL and Lannisport. so Robb actually could have done better if he had different goals. he would be at odds with Stannis and Renly but he already pretty much was to begin with, so no changes there.
    Talisa probably never falls for Robb because she seemed pretty disillusioned by the war and people fighting over a big iron chair. A more ambitious Robb also would have set his sights alot higher.
    ultimately i think he still would have lost. but it would have certainly been interesting to see a house thats not blood related at all to Aegon I, trying to take over by conquest.
    And of course the consequences of Robb winning would mean any house that has a big enough army could come and take it from him, because hes already set that precedent.

    Stick to your base with GoT for now, but people will follow your banter. Havent found a video I havent loved. Spreading the word like I would for Craster

    Gandalf's sword absorbs the lightning that he calls forth to strike the Balrog. Your LOTR knowledge saddens me greatly
