I purchased this laptop a couple days ago and from a screen junkie perspective, with screen display and image quality being the highest deciding factor for a purchase for me personally, I can say that I have never seen such a beautiful display on a computer before. I am more impressed with this display than the $5000 apple XDR display. I cannot describe how great the screen is. Highly recommend
Are you insane? The screen is awful when in HDR mode, there is ghosting on the moving image, you can see halo's around everything... and when you compare it to an OLED, you realise it's showing you a very dishonest image. The 'dimming zones' thing is a real scam, there needs to be 4000-8000 of these 'zones' before it can be used as a HDR screen. You can disable the 'multi-zone lighting effect', but then you don't have HDR. I am returning my unit for a Lenovo Legion Pro 7, long time Asus fan, but this experience, especially with the awful 'Armoury Crate' software, I can not tolerate being ripped off so badly
The screen blooming isn't that big of an eye sore? What are your thermals when gaming? I'm trying to figure out if I want this one, or if I want the 17" one with the AMD CPU.
The blackout “issue” that is described is NOT A PROBLEM AT ALL, it happens when the display changes it refresh rate from 240 to 60Hz or viceversa, when you plug the AC adapter the energy mode changes to “turbo” and uses the fastest mode, and so on.. is not a problem and you can disable that behavior
My brother and I both bought this laptop. I can confirm that we're both experiencing the black screen issues. Hopefully Asus gets it figured out quick or I'll be returning it.
I also have/had the issue, but only when I set it to „Ultimate“ in Armoury Crate. Setting the colors to 10 bit in the Nvidia control panel fixed it for me.
I got this laptop recently and I have not had any locking up or screen blackout tare etc. I did however rip out that 1tb hard drive and replace it with two 2tb 990 Pro SSds with no issues. Diablo IV runs awesome, Cyberpunk has never looked so good, and RTX Minecraft is really awesome! Be ready for some fan noise, it is loud but this laptop packs a punch like none I have ever seen. The 330W brick gets really hot too so best to place it on its side for better cooling, I would not recommend putting in on your bed unless you need a bed warmer ;) The neat thing about the cooling system is if you hold it up when its hot you can feel the cool air being sucked into the bottom and the hot hair dryer output on the sides (makes a nice mouse warmer too) ;) First time I ever felt cool bottom of the laptop and lava coming out the sides, this new cooler system they have really works its butt off, I can tell you that! The liquid metal heatsink compound and 3 fans this laptop comes with, really work awesome! QHD is perfect for the RTX-4080 in this beast, don't sweat not getting the 4090 unless you intend to connect to an external 4k monitor, but if your doing that, get a desktop foo LOL
Oh and yes mine has a slight coil whine but its not as bad as in the video, nature of the beast at this price point; $2699 at MicroCenter with new Microcenter card application (pay that sucker off or go with interest free instead of the -$100, also all future purchases are 5% off when using the card, no I don't work there or for ASUS LOL, just a fan of this awesome laptop and Microcenter too), get em while their hot, literally. I have been trying to decide between this laptop and the Asus M16 4080 model with mini LED. Will you review the M16 at some point? And what will the performance difference be? If it's only 10% less for the M16 I think I could live with that. As always great content!
The M16 is way lighter, thinner, and more portable, but at the cost of what’s mentioned above me. (You can solve that with a cooling pad if u don’t mind using those) This SCAR laptop is way more powerful (due to higher Graphics TDP) and maybe a bit more cooler due to it being thicker, but its more of a desktop replacement.
You definitely want to get the scar 16. The reason why is because this processor and this graphics card produced so much heat. You really don’t want a system that’s been designed for lower heat production retrofitted for the specs of the I-9 and 4080. Instead I think it would be a better idea to go with the system that was deliberately designed to withstand the heat. Don’t forget the power the 4080 gets in the system is 150 W versus the M 16 which only get 125 and that makes a big difference
I'm curious if I can replace the screen on my 2023 Strix G16 non HDR with the Mini Led display.. I cant find a replacement screen anywhere online that says its mini led for this model you have here.
Coil whine is not an issue, if it happens for RTX 4xxx, it means it'll happen on any laptop with that GPU series. That's due to high power of coils to get enough juice for the GPU. Nothing a laptop manufacturer can do about it. It's the same story as has been for desktop GPUs once they got powerful enough to create a hearable coil whine. Good thing is that noise is covered by fan noise once you get performance/turbo speeds. It really only sounds so clear when a microphone records it, not when you actually hear it live with your ears. Another example is PS5 when it got released, people uploaded videos with coil whine going crazy how the console is loud. I got the console and you know what? I can barely hear it or not at all. You need to be extra quiet, audio off and close enough to the console to hear it. While on a video it sounds like it's really loud and annoying. So I suggest to hear it live on your own and then decide, don't take YT videos under consideration. It's misleading af.
You cant hear the coil hum under normal conditions. Unless you play on your laptop with the back of it right against your ear lol, or when the room is COMPLETELY quiet. At least I can't. But go grab another laptop. Your decision. They ALL have their problems. There is no perfect laptop.
Have you heard anything about two different specs and people arent getting the mini led screens even tho it says it on the box? Apparently it has to say mini led hdr??
Tried to fix the black screen issue and no chance…resetting the pc,updating the drivers and nothing,it just keeps doing the same when the hdr is on with the ultimate graphics set up in the armory crate I’m just returning it!
i am also getting the the coil problem and i think it because of the backlight of the keyboard. I switched off my keyboard brightness the problem went away
i need a laptop with a amazing screen for HDR content. 4090 for productivity do you recommend this model. gt77 is too big to fit in my bag, for reference Razor blade 18 does fit in my bag but i dont think 4k gaming is the best on a laptop and 1080p (dual mode screen) is too low. (though i will consider it)
I love mine, more power than I need but it does make a lot of noise and is super flashy, you might be better off with a new high end MacBook Pro but be ready to shell out $$$ for that. The Strix Scar 16 was built to be a compact gaming machine, no one will take you seriously if you show up at a meeting with this bad boy LOL But if you turn off the LEDs, its got enough power for you to do anything you need to on a laptop for about half the price of a Mac that still can not play games like you can on an ROG Strix Scar 16.
@@APZeus3 you obviously are just a troll and don't/or ever owned a Lenovo Legion PRO Laptop lol 😂 maybe you should literally try one before you knock it out the water. So you rather have massive hardware screen issues and coil whine ?
What a tragedy. This laptop is an epic fail, I'm hugely disappointed and will be returning mine; so so many screen issues. Cyberpunk has a lag related to being in dGPU mode??? Black screen issue popping up randomly meaning I can not boot the machine? Games freezing and crashing to desktop. So cannot use or appreciate the full power of the machine. As I'm typing now, the screen has a rippling effect from the vibration... I have an unresolvable black screen issue when changing to HDR or to GPU mode, even after BIOS updates, various combinations of settings & drivers and 4 Windows reinstalls.... This laptop has robbed me of a week. Asus should be ashamed. Seeing all the same issue as highlighted in this video, so definitely an refund, not a RMA
@@ardaanldonmez6575 I tried everything, was working on it for a week, 4 Windows installs, various combinations of drivers, it would only work when in dynamic Mode, whenever in only dgpu Mode, I had issues, crashes, lock ups and sometimes HDR not being available

Im deciding for THIS or the MSI RAIDER GE78HX 4080 I9 32GB , only because this asus is mini-led I cant decide yet , but I like the MSI aestetics more . For gaming, coding , I would like to see someones advice, thanks.
Do your own research, look at the specs, read the reviews of people who own them. Make your own decision based on your specific needs. This is the best advice I can give you. I did the research for myself, money was not an issue for me so it came down to best performance (tech) best cooling, best display, best size, the ROG Strix Scar 16 checked all the boxes for me. Sure there are some things I had to sacrifice, like a metal enclosure, crappy armory crate software and BIOS that does not post if hardware goes south and a mouse that gets stuck occasionally on the enclosure LOL. It takes longer to boot than my MacBook Pro or even an old i5 laptop with SSD but it plays games better than I had expected coming form a PC desktop gaming setup. You can game on a laptop now with graphics still better than a PS5 and it is small enough to take with you (as long as you can plug that brick in LOL). The Strix Scar 16 is the best gaming laptop. In its size. In the world. Perhaps you do not require playing games that demand so much power and a cheaper MSI laptop may check your boxes, its all up to you. Don't let other people make the choice for you, make it yourself, like I said read, compare, choose, that is true freedom, exercise your freedom, that's MERICA. 😁

I have the 4090 model and the fans (mainly the left) emit a slight whistle noise that varies in pitch and volume depending on fan speed. This normal? Any one else getting this experience? Not sure if an exchange will be worth getting a unit with coil whine, dead pixels, etc.

I haven’t but I bought it later and apparently a bios update fixed these. I think my thing is the lack of an sd card reader as the big issue lol. Not that I used it anyways but still. The bios update also gives you those missing options people were missing as well.
Tell me how that goes for ya big spender. I'm thinking about treating myself to the 4090 one too but it all these comments are making not want to get it now. Though I do think it's the coolest laptop out there out of all of them on the current market
@Arash Rezaee of course. The 4090 is a 4080 performance it's like 90 percent desktop performance. Laptops are the future hell yeah! Long term investment price depreciates great. It's a great price
The price may come down by then. My friend is letting me borrow his gaming laptop to hold me over untill the prices drop. $5k for a laptop is a bit absurd.
Not when you compare it to other high end laptops especially MacBook Pro full blown, that's ~$6k and you still can't game on it like you can on the ROG Strix Scar 16 for half the cost.
All the same problems with the 4090 version. But I'll probably test the waters because I have zero interest in all the other laptops other then ASUS Duo 16 which should have all the same problems.
My experience has been overall pleasing even though my 4080 died, the 4090 is even better! Yes there are some bees buzzing in there once in a while the gaming experience with headphones is still stellar AMAZING! I am glad I picked this one, even after my first one died, I got another better one, if my 4090 dies I will try another brand but would still choose ASUS again in the future, been using ASUS products for over 40 years, only had a few bad apples including my 4080. Sure the ASUS quality has been fading the last ~10 years but its still some of the best tech out there and I still support them. The fake mini LED overseas is deplorable but I don't know who's fault that is, some people just want cheaper and only cheaper, perhaps distributers wanted a way to make more money and perhaps ASUS obliged them by making the laptops with bad displays, who knows.
There all are kinds nice boxes that light up. And oled Tvs with nice screens. What's the true internal performance? Of all these laptops. To say a 4060 or 3060 can handle any kind of heavy workload in bs.
I just bought this laptop. it is not perfect, it has some flaws. screen is very bright it is good. but colors look little bit odd, cant explain. keyboard is awesome. it almost feels like mechanical. I didnot play game a lot but I tried it with New World. with high settings it produces 60fps. I think it is a little low. I am bit worried on this. but lets see. It is very heavy. build quality is good but when you take it up you need to be careful. it is not something you can hold with one hand for sure.
Screen's important for me for video editing. Is yours defective or its a normal product and its just how it is? Also have you tested for backlight bleed and is there any?
I also just bought one and my screen also looks a bit washed out... next to an asus proart desktop monitor there is a small but noticeable difference... haven't had any other issues with it so far tho. As a 'portable' workstation (it is definitely super heavy) I've found it mostly great, and my biggest gripe is that I'm really not a fan of the gamer design style...

Tried to fix the black screen issue and no chance…resetting the pc,updating the drivers and nothing,it just keeps doing the same when the hdr is on with the ultimate graphics set up in the armory crate
I’m just returning it!
Nebula HDR Display, 100% DCI-P3, Dolby Vision HDR, 500 nitti (cd/m²) Estonia, Euronics
I definitely get that buzzing sound coming from your mic lol
12:54 that sound is also same for scar g15 2021 that is sound of cpu.
i am also getting the the coil problem and i think it because of the backlight of the keyboard. I switched off my keyboard brightness the problem went away
What do you think, this one or a Razer 16? This is a bit cheaper, the other one better build.
Just ordered the 4090 version for 2450 euros im hyped!!
I've also got coil whine coming from the screen when scrolling\dragging web page with video, but on Rog Duo 2022 :| Asus QC sucks
what are other better options like this laptop
Sounds like typical Asus coil whine. I have that issue with my ROG 3070ti card in my desktop.
you sold it to me! ps. that t-shirt is so funny XD
i need a laptop with a amazing screen for HDR content.
Loved your video!
Is it me or the CPU gets really hot during gaming? What are the CPU adn GPU temps while gaming?
how's the battery life upon watching netflix?
how do I turn off the 3 white lights just above the keyboard (below the screen)??
Sadly, I don't know short of physically disconnecting the wires to the lights. They are kind of annoying.
@@TechWithSean I love this laptop but wow hates these lights...thx for the response and I will respond here if I find a solution in the bios
I'm sure this laptop is awesome no doubt❤
Appreciate the indepth review but due to the black out screen and whine...I'm out.
How do you compare this with new Lenovo legion 7i with 4080
Lenovo is crap
@@APZeus3 that's bs. Lenovo are one of the best laptop brands currently.
@@owenporter1472 no it’s not , anyone who plays games knows it is TOTAL CRAP
@@APZeus3 you obviously are just a troll and don't/or ever owned a Lenovo Legion PRO Laptop lol 😂 maybe you should literally try one before you knock it out the water. So you rather have massive hardware screen issues and coil whine ?
@@skylyfeprojects Lenovo is really crap
WhTs the point of getting a scar 4080 when you can get the G16 4080 for cheaper? Only reason to get the scar would be the 4090..
Seeing all the same issue as highlighted in this video, so definitely an refund, not a RMA
did u enable mux switch?
@@ardaanldonmez6575 I tried everything, was working on it for a week, 4 Windows installs, various combinations of drivers, it would only work when in dynamic Mode, whenever in only dgpu Mode, I had issues, crashes, lock ups and sometimes HDR not being available
@@michaelrathbone7258 do you have another laptop in the same price instead of this monster ?!
@@AMBITION6176 no and it's not worth it for what you get
Great review. Thinking about getting this laptop. Also, completely unrelated but nice One Piece shirt. Where'd you get it?
I was looking for some more original anime shirts and ordered a bunch random ones off of Etsy. Not sure if they’re really officially licensed merch or not though, if that matters to you. Thanks for watching!
@@TechWithSean What about screen bleeding ?
Im deciding for THIS or the MSI RAIDER GE78HX 4080 I9 32GB , only because this asus is mini-led I cant decide yet , but I like the MSI aestetics more . For gaming, coding , I would like to see someones advice, thanks.
I bought msi ge 78, it eas terrible.....
Im experiencing lower performances on this laptop. I did Cinebench stress test and i got around 5K lower points than normal. Is anybody else having the same issue
You need some sound absorption pads in your recording area my dude.
HDR mini led is only available in the Scar series with rtx 4090.
This had mini LED and 4080, ordered directly from ASUS webstore.
@@TechWithSeanROG Strix SCAR 16 (2023) G634 G634JZ-XS96 Eshop USA, does not have a mini LED.
You can check it in the HDR panel to see what the brightness is, theoretically it will show you 1100 nits.
If he has.
This is Asus misdescribing the product.
Am I the only one who saw his tshirt,W tshirt and great review thanks
Is there any way to reduce the coil horn noise?
Thankyou but i dont care about the noise, for me i just want playing game with good quality display and high fps
Great video. Definitely a miss for me with the coil whine. Jeez.
What about screen bleeding ?
hello anyone already solve the blackout issue and the noise probem
Does anyone know when Best Buy is going to get these? I have some store credit and this is going to be my new laptop. Thanks!
It's available in Best Buy right now. For Canada at least..... I literally just ordered my right now :)
I have the 4090 model and the fans (mainly the left) emit a slight whistle noise that varies in pitch and volume depending on fan speed. This normal? Any one else getting this experience? Not sure if an exchange will be worth getting a unit with coil whine, dead pixels, etc.
I have the 4090 now after my 4080 died. They sound the same, jet engine but no whistle sound, just rushing lava air coming out, I fear it will one day melt that short a$$ power connector cord >.
@@djgeojoehow did the 4080 die?
love this laptop! i have only two problems
1- white shadows around the words or the mouse cursor on the darks colours (when background is black or even dark grey)
2- black flickering when booting windows (after typing my password) then the screen comes back to normal
any suggestions?
White shadows are called blooming
Is the issue of number 2 still happening? I’m deciding between this and the legion 7i pro
Legion 7i pro is a VERY solid machine. If mini LED is not important to you then I would get that. Otherwise the Scar 16 is just behind the 7i but with a better screen.
@@jakepaucarpura8298
Do you plan to keep it? I haven't heard about the bugs you experienced from anyone before it is very disconcerting.
I haven’t but I bought it later and apparently a bios update fixed these. I think my thing is the lack of an sd card reader as the big issue lol. Not that I used it anyways but still. The bios update also gives you those missing options people were missing as well.
sean ur comment is very useful thx. i was going to buy it though, n decline. thx sean
imaagine grabbing your charger and having the biggest one. Well this is what we asked for i guess.. more power
Nice review, but constantly rubbing the mic with your arm was distracting.
Im going to lenovo that coil whine is a nope for me
Next time open it up...showcasing the internals is important for content like this...
oh wishing to have this laptop
Price 3k we should build desktop for gaming
Ya I received mine yesterday and it doesn't work so gonna return it and get an alien laptop instead
Asus is trash in general have had nothing but problems with their product won't ever buy from them again.
can it handle 8k gaming?
Going for 4090 with vram 16gb
Tell me how that goes for ya big spender. I'm thinking about treating myself to the 4090 one too but it all these comments are making not want to get it now. Though I do think it's the coolest laptop out there out of all of them on the current market
@Arash Rezaee of course. The 4090 is a 4080 performance it's like 90 percent desktop performance. Laptops are the future hell yeah! Long term investment price depreciates great. It's a great price
@Arash Rezaee price makes sense. Saving it for my birthday close to Sept
The price may come down by then. My friend is letting me borrow his gaming laptop to hold me over untill the prices drop. $5k for a laptop is a bit absurd.
@@arashrezaee1464 its not 5k. It's under 4k little under.
That coil whine is terrible lol.
Beautiful laptop but sadly extremely expensive 😢😢😢
Not when you compare it to other high end laptops especially MacBook Pro full blown, that's ~$6k and you still can't game on it like you can on the ROG Strix Scar 16 for half the cost.
anyone still showing this problem?
Good thing it doesn't contain the scars of the mobile 4090.
All the same problems with the 4090 version.
But I'll probably test the waters because I have zero interest in all the other laptops other then ASUS Duo 16 which should have all the same problems.
and Im watching this video at 1080p tn panel laptop
I've never understood why they chose that ugly default wallpaper
Seen so many negative reviews for the 16 and 18 model. Definitely going to pass on the ASUS!

I just bought this laptop. it is not perfect, it has some flaws.

keyboard is awesome. it almost feels like mechanical.
@@Teddyponsel2626 I did not have chance to do screen tests yet. I want to do it asap. colors are like pale/faded if that makes sense.
