The beer that got me into craft brew was Torpedo by Sierra Nevada. It was almost the complete opposite of what I was drinking at the time, coronas. That bitter, piney taste was something different and I knew I had to explore more.

Swamis is DEFINATLY in the rotation for the exact reasons you mentioned, cheap and solid. I tell people that Pizza Port is my favorite brewery because no matter how many IPAs they put out you always know it will be solid. Favorite beer ever would have to be Pliny the Younger. Only got to try it once but it was GLORIOUS. My favorite everyday would be Chief Peak by Topa Topa located in Ventura.

The beer that opened my mind and made me realize that beer was more than Coors, Miller, and Bud was Eagle Rock Brewery's Populist IPA. I took a tour of their brewery and smelled hops for the first time in my life and thought, "Wait... Beer can smell and taste like this?!" The best beer I've ever had though is Tree House's Julius on tap at their Charlton Brewery.

Pizza Port inspired me to start my own WCIPA brewery on the east coast of Australia. My first trip to San Diego in 2011 was what gave me the push to go from brewing for someone else to brewing for myself. I had a second trip to San Diego in 2016 after I got married, we spent our honeymoon there as I my wife is amazing.
I have had beer in many cities, and many countries, though for me Pizza Port always nailed what I love about beer. Don't overthink it, offer good beer at a fair price, and make a space the whole family can enjoy!

This is a great video dude! You’re really funny and I love the less serious approach to a beer video. Anyways, the IPA that got me into craft is called Tower Station IPA by Mother Road Brewing. They’re from Flagstaff Arizona which is only a couple hours from where I’m at near chandler. Great citra dominant ipa and very well priced. Nothing complicated or too complex. Just a well done unfiltered ipa that leans more west coast. Nowadays my favorite is Spellbinder by Wren House which is even closer to me. It’s an amazing hazy ipa, that i believe is dry hopped with tons of mosaic and citra. Whirlpool hop is cascade I believe. Huge pineapple, tangerine, and ripe strawberries on the flavor and aroma. There’s a nice dankyness as well. Finishes relatively dry and is an Arizona favorite. Won Gold at a the great American beer festival in 2020. so damn good.

I’m a Wisconsinite, so I’ve had my fair share of IPA’s despite just turning 22- I believe this one is from Oregon. Milwaukee, Waukesha and La Crosse have some phenomenal breweries- I’ve really never gone wrong. Another phenomenal ipa is called Space Dust. I was drinking a couple at a local bar and realized, woah, I’m way more buzzed than I thought I would be. Come to find out it is 8.2%, which caught me be surprise because it went down very smooth.

Fat Tire and their 1554 Black Lager were the two beers that convinced me to try brewing something other than a simple lager clone. I was on a camping trip in Wyoming about 25 years ago and accidentally picked up a 6 pack of Fat Tire because it was 'dark'. And later I found their 1554 was 'darker' still! Now I generally brew malty dark beers and ales. Plus it's easier to brew a tasty porter or stout - my mistakes are usually masked by the robust flavors. No fruit adjuncts allowed please! No sours either!
