Thanks man, watching this, hearing your reasons, makes me feel relaxed. I hate the the initial process too, I trace the difficult parts like hands and eyes with my phone. Really love the process of shading. ❤️

Thank you so much for this video! I had trouble learning how to do the grid method in school and hated it so when I got out of high school over 9 years ago I just free handed the drawings.but, I am doing a commission for someone and it's going to be a very large piece so I had to learn this.I have watched so many videos and you made it so easy.Lol, other videos get into math and im horrible at math. Great video. your an amazing artist by the way.

There's no disadvantage to the triangulation method in having less lines because you can simply keep adding more and more lines to make triangles without measuring out.

What about the pantograph? I had one as a kid (probably the sketch a graph brand). With the grid method it can be extremely difficult to avoid traces of the grid showing through in the finished drawing even if the lines were drawn really lightly. Its not the line itself showing through but the microscopic damage to the paper caused by erasing the line means that shading over the erased line appears lighter resulting in what some people call ghost lines. I strongly advise people to test out some sample lines on the same paper they intend to use, erase them completely and shade over them and then take a close look (preferably magnified) for ghost lines. When erasing them, it helps greatly to use a putty eraser since vinyl erasers can be too abrasive giving the dreaded ghost lines. Experimenting on my usual paper I found that using 2b or 3b with NO pressure (just the weight of the pencil) I could draw the faintest possible grid line, then using a putty eraser to remove it I experienced no ghost line when shading over it which was as relief because I want to use the method in future. Thanks.

Please write,,,,Bic-criterium lot de 12 crayon graphite tete...-AMAZON.fr
I don't know about the change of the firm,,,,
my pencils are ''CONTE'',,and no BIC,,,but the ''criterium''550 is the same, and are made from France,,,I have many of these and i think are enough good and darkest in comparison with theFABER CASTELLE 9000.
I think are better pencils from FABER CASTELLE,because are softer ,noiseless, and more cleane to,without glue hardness,,,,,
Thank you very much for your time,,,my pleasant to talk with you,,,i saw all your video
again and again because help me to relax!
      My respect!

lampros mellis The thing is that I live in the US and must purchase from Amazon in the US. I cannot find any pencils of that name here. There is a Conte' a Paris pencil set, but it also does not have the name "Criterium" or "Franche".

ok tracing is definitely cheating, but that's how i learned to draw from baby age

There is no such thing as 'cheating' when it comes to getting the initial sketch onto paper or canvas. The idea of using the Grid method, or some facsimile of it, or tracing is not so you can display just the sketch and say "look at me, I drew this!" It is about getting the proper proportions down onto your chosen media so you can then BEGIN with the actual drawing or painting, the adding of materials, the shading effects, the blending techniques, the proper pencil strokes, etc. all in an effort to complete YOUR art. Painters, for example, are very familiar with tracing or using methods like the Grid to get their 'initial' sketch onto the canvas before painting. History tells us that some of the greats of old used these methods for their masterpieces that today are priceless! The word "cheating" is based on trying to deceive, to take by dishonest means from another. Those who trace or use other methods to get an initial sketch onto their paper or canvas are not doing that.

Tracing, whether by using the grid method or explicitly tracing using carbon transfer paper, is simply a method to transfer the proportions for your drawing. You still have to draw the thing which is not easy. Personally, I use carbon transfer paper because I cannot understand why using the grid method is any way superior. It's just an extremely slow and inefficient way to trace a photograph. I can transfer key reference points using carbon transfer paper in seconds.
