This is exactly what I've been looking for, I'm drawing a guy at the moment with very wispy white hair and had absolutely no idea how to achieve the effect, thanks!
This was a life saver! Thank you! Working on a commission and I was dreading doing the beard and gray/white hair. I'm going to assume this works for a short trimmed beard. Do a few practice goes and then go for it. Again, thank you! You saved the day!
I'm a self taught armature sketching artist, more a hobby than a money maker, and I must thank you for such a great tutorial. I have struggled with white hair details and found your video very, very helpful. I'm subscribing.
Many thanks for the valuable info. Like you I have not been drawing for very long but with help like this I don’t have to struggle for years to make it happen. Hope you do many more videos and I’ll be there for every one of them👍
wow ! those are amazing techniques ... i used to do it with a sharp eraser or white pen but it never make the same wonderful result ! ... thanks for sharing
Thanks. But I'm far from meeting your high praise. I'm still relatively new at this. I started drawing Sept. 2014. This drawing was done Dec. 2015, 15 months later. Last month was my 2 year anniversary. Great artists have been doing this stuff for years! But I do appreciate the compliment as it is a motivator.
Very useful, thanks, if the man wants to chew gum, let him chew gum, you can still hear every word clearly. Free advice on a great technique, what's not to like
I was looking for this tutorial for many days!!! there are some tutorials in RUclips that explain how to draw beard but this is the best one. thanks a lot!!!
I have been drawing my whole life and have just now started to truly seek to improve and your videos are so inspiring! This is a neat little trick you use, I bet you could use a sculpting tool instead of a "pen without ink". They have different size steel nibs that are like roller ball pens and you cold have different sizes instead of just this pen tip size. :) I will be interested to give this technique a try, thanks for sharing!
man i struggled for so long with short hair , i was able to incorporate this technique to do short hair and for realtic fur too :) . thank you so much :):)
Cloud Strife Since dragons and things are not "real", I don't think 'realism' would come into play. My work is to draw 'portraits' of people, although I have done a cat and horses. Did not enjoy drawing the animals and found drawing people to me more to my liking. We all should draw what brings us the greatest joy. I hope you find the information you need for drawing mythical creatures. Cheers!
Just the techniques I was looking for. I have been struggling with hair highlights in dark areas. Going to try this magical tape trick. Thank you thank you thank you!!!
Thanks for your VERY useful advice on drawing hair/bristles. I have heard of this technique being used in Hollywood sfx I.e- old age makeup on actors, but I wouldn't have thought of this as a technique for 2d art, not only is this the best approach but it's probably the only approach for "photo realistic drawing when dealing with complex hair or fur, could it be used for say veins on arms legs etc do you think?
Wow, that tape technique is sheer genius, thanks for sharing ! I just tried it out on some test drawing paper, and the first few times, it slightly damges it, so i would strongly advise to first tap your fingers for a while against the stick side, to be sure to not damage your drawing. (you need very little stick to remove graphite, but too much will damage the paper
Rix, you're such a champ for this and all the other of your content - my new favorite drawing channel. Also, loved the chewing, completely informal and like being right beside you and looking over your shoulder :-)
Great! Someone not complaining about my chewing gum. Thank you! I didn't realize it would be such a bother to some at the time. I wasn't focused on my chewing, only the drawing. Live and learn. Glad you made my channel your new favorite. Tell your friends!
Thank you so much for sharing, I would love to improve my portrait drawings, and this has just inspired me to go further.... I have used kneadable erasers, pen technique, but not the low tack tape which takes it to another level, cannot wait to try it out. I think you are amazing at what you do, so thanks again.
Thank you for your kudos. As an amateur artist, such comments motivates me to keep reaching to do better. I'm happy to share what I learn on this wonderful journey of graphite art.
ok, so not only have I learnt from your you tube, just learnt what the word kudos means, never heard of it so as you can see how much Ihave learnt from you already, you tube is a wonderful educator.
You're supposed to get paid for giving me this idea. I used to rage quit my drawing when I came across drawing hairs.
It would be nice, right? Well, there's always the Rixcandoit.com website with the 'donate' link. ;-) Glad you found it useful.
