We are really proud of this - our Electronic Cafe interview with the legendary Andy McCluskey discussing the new album Bauhaus Staircase ..... amongst other things. Bauhaus Staircase - tell us what you think of the album (and our interview) 🎵🎹
I think another interview after the tour would be amazing ! The guys must be absolutely stoked with the success of a brilliant album and a sell out tour :)
Great interview. Andy is as 'Andy' as ever. I love OMD. I learned music by ear by playing every piece of music on OMD's first five albums. I have all of their albums and 12" singles.
A brilliant hour! Loved OMD since the beginning and agree that the first album is one of the best 80's albums... Thanks for the memories and the excellent interview guys!
I've always had the impression that Andy McCluskey is a genuinely nice bloke, this interview confirms it, but also shows the renaissance man of culture beyond the music. Great job Mark & Andy!
Great interview Gents … always so much better when it is fans who are knowledgeable and respectful of the artist that are responsible and involved in the discussion 👌🏼
Absolutely Brilliant. Love the new OMD album and I love that Andy hasn't changed. He is a lovely man, very down to earth and has a great sense of humour. I enjoyed this immensely.
Thanks for this excellent interview! I've always loved OMD but as a kid with a limited budget I never had any of their singles or albums. Thanks to YT I've been binging on their videos and realized just how much I've been missing out on. I soon realized that OMD is on par with Pet Shop Boys [whose releases I have all of and most in multiple formats] for historical references and criticism of our modern world and the criminals that are running it. Their videos, sound, and lyrical genius has been consistently great across these decades and the latest batch from the new album sealed the deal. So it's funny that Andy mentions tripling the budget for them-- if I am any example, it was money well spent, because I am pleased to say that their new album will be the first OMD in my collection. I ordered the limited double CD yesterday as an import from their site UK because the US site was already sold out. Can't wait to get it and hear the second disc of extras. Now to fill out the rest of my OMD collection. Fan recommendations would be appreciated for this newbie.
Great comments and thanks for sharing and especially your kind words and watching Electronic Cafe. Certainly the OMD / Architecture & Morality album is a MUST get. Thanks. MW
I watched the Bauhaus Staircase video when it came out, wasn't sure about the song, but the vid was good. Downloaded the album and played it whilst working, to see if it caught my attention, in a good way. And it did. Really well mixed (well done Paul) and some really catchy and lovely songs. Andy's voice just hasn't aged at all, except for being stronger and more reassured. I still think Architecture and Morality is their best album, but BS (unfortunate initials) will get a few plays over the coming weeks to become more familiar with it. A great effort 40+ years into a career. Congratulations, I hope it gets loads of mainstream attention.
Another great interview guys. I’m loving the Bauhaus Staircase album & await your next interview. I’d love to see Dave Hughes interviewed about his time with OMD, DALEK I & Godot.
Thank you for this amazing interview! Been a fan since 1983 and I had the honor to interview Paul last year for a radio show at the time and he was as awesome as Andy😊. The new album is great and I love it! Thanks again!
Great interview guys. It's so good to see Andy McCluskey really relaxed & be given the time to enthuse about the new album. You get much more info & honesty here rather than what's limited in a short TV interview or in a magazine article. 'Bauhaus Staircase' sounds like it's gonna be quite a special OMD album. I love the way the band have embraced the sounds of Kraftwerk, Jean Michel Jarre, Goldfrapp, Pet Shop Boys & many more influences to become the ultimate group celebrating Electronic music. OMD still totally have their own identifiable sound & they just keep getting better. Thanks again.
Thank you for sharing and for your kind words, very much appreciated by us. Andy McCluskey was fantastic, great fun and we LOVE the new Bauhaus Staircase album. Thank you for watching Electronic Cafe. MW
Thanks for that guys. When the band have gone through years of strife & put so much work into recording the new album I feel the least I can do is give some feedback of my own, rather than just saying 'Brilliant' or leaving a hundred emojies, which in my opinion is a bit lazy & more than a bit rude. Anyway, keep up the good work guys & just a quick reminder......when are you gonna review Sparks 'No 1 song in heaven' album? The Maels are very open to chats like you do which would be fantastic especially after their success of the last couple of years. It was a ground breaking masterpiece in that they were the first rock group to go disco, let alone electronic disco. (Sorry, had to get my nag in again, couldn't help meself! lol).
Oh yes, very much a legend. I saw OMD a few years back in Ipswich with my wife in Ipswich. I was amazed by Andy's energy on stage, it really was an awesome show. My wife had seen them 30yrs previously and was wowed all over again some 30yrs later. And here they are banging out great tunes again. Thank goodness for all these artists from the late 70's and early 80's still going, pumping out great tunes !! And thanks to @electroniccafemusic for giving us amazing interviews with amazing artists :)
Another great and inspiring interview. Andy seems like a fantastic guy, being a control freak or not. ;-) The new album sounds really good, after one playthrough. I have to dive more into it and get all the lyrical content. I hope they still have ideas and record more music in the future.
Thanks for your kind words and sharing your comments. Andy was fantastic to speak to and love the album. Thanks of course for watching Electronic Cafe. MW
I love OMD.Also watched them live a few times over the years. It's great there still making excellent music. There Kraftwerk story is inspiring. Great interview.
Another fantastic interview. I have been so lucky in getting tickets to see OMD and Walt Disco very soon in March. Late 70's - Early 80's really were the best of times in terms of music.
Insightful interview. I don't have a huge interest in OMD's more recent music but it's really good how they remain relevant and still have reasons to exist beyond any nostalgia thing.. Looking forward to seeing them live for the first time next year.
Well, at the weekend I got to see OMD at Ipswich. OMG they were brilliant. I hope you got to see them and the fantastic Walt Disco. These are memories I will never forget :)
' Oh, you've got a new idea? Is it better than these 24 ideas, 'cause then we've got to erase something.' :) A very charming interview, thanks to everyone. P.S. Yes, I too was one of those who thought Paul did the music and Andy added the lyrics. Now I know!
I still have my 7" single of Enola Gay, plus a few vinyl albums. I'm not a great lover of decades later reunions, as they are usually a vastly inferior offering, but this actually sounds pretty decent I am happily surprised to say.
Love the new album. American here hoping Trump comes back, cost of living it gettig too high people in the US are starting to skip meal and work three jobs to make ends meet.
I've tried to listen to this album several times and at the moment can't stand it, real shame as I do love OMD, have to agree with Andy's comment for Kraftwerk, the Tour De France album, I can only listen to Tour De France and Aero Dynamik, rest of the album is utter rubbish. I do like the shorter versions of their songs from the Catalogue

Saw them in march at Manchester, they were brilliant, can’t say the same for Walt Disco though.
@@StorminBriski I thought Walt Disco were amazing :)
Wasn’t keen. Thought they were joy division from wish. But it would be boring if everyone liked the same stuff I guess.
