    OMG this is one of the best reviews I've ever seen! Like not just for QoR but any product! Thank you for taking the time to do all those swatches and comparisons and edit it all together - its beautifully made. Also that Quin Magenta!!!

      Ah, I’m so happy to hear that! I know you work with these extensively, so I was very curious what you thought.
      I had a lot of questions before I tried them, so I wanted to show as much as I could in my review. 😂 Even if it made the video super long.
      The quin magenta is just amazing!

    Ok, your video finally got it into my head why Golden can command that kind of price. I could never figure out why they were so expensive, but your video was so in depth, and covered so much. The brand comparison in particular was super helpful. Thank you!

      I was really curious about this before I did the review too, so I wanted to talk about it. I’m glad you enjoyed it! I was not sure if I should make such a long video, but there was a lot to cover! 😂

      The rewet and dispersion are great and high pigment load. They are my favorite brand of transparent watercolor!

    My favorite thing about Qor is their tins-I really wish they just sold those because I'm all about them! They're super cute and have great mixing wells and storage space. I got the 24 color set forever ago but haven't used it aside from little things like a year ago.
    I love your swatch charts, because the way you talk about the paints is both informative, but also personal and interesting. Love the lifting test because it was super surprising, and important for people who use that technique a lot! The clarity of color and the glazing abilities really remind me of my Sennelier paints, and there was that one portrait that you did of the woman that was in a grayish purple, after the space lady, that I instantly said "Wow, that looks like Sennelier." I've found those are my favorite paints for portrait work, and this makes me want to try my Qor colors for this.
    Love your in-depth explanation of Aquazol, which is something that I've been curious about and am pleased to have more knowledge on.
    This is a CRAZY informative video and I really appreciate all the work and research you did to make this. I'll definitely be breaking my Qor paints out again because of you.

    • @SadieSavestheDay
      @SadieSavestheDay  6 лет назад +3

      I love the tins too! They are super cute.
      Sennelier is really nice and glowy ( although to be honest I have no idea why! 😂) and I feel lots of the same properties from QoR!
      Try them out again! They are such fun.
      Lifting tests are normally pretty boring, but I was so shocked with this one I thought I had messed up. Of course it’s probably more lifting on Arches, but stilly more staining than other paints.

    I am overwhelmed with all that I learned from this video, well done... but I have to say, I have come to a place in my life where I spend a lot of my time "watching paint dry" but I was shocked to realize that I was watching paint dry on a video.... and didn't speed through it. I'm going to giggle about that all day. Debs in Everett, WA, USA

    I'm fairly new to watercolor. I just bought the high chroma set bc I was attracted to the colors and flowing properties but was apprehensive about the staining quality. Now, I see how it can be used as a benefit due to your very detailed review. I am also looking into setting up a professional palette and I've been trying to decide between Daniel Smith, Qor and Da Vinci. This helps me to really hone in on the attributes that will best facilitate the learning process. Much respect Ms. Sadie! The way you constructed this video was very thoughtful and time consuming I'm sure. I literally watched paint dry and didn't mind. Thank you, Ma'am!

    I'm really late to the party here, but thank you for such an informative review. I was first wowed by Qor's high chroma set and then i got these and i love them. Was disappointed by some negative feedback I think mostly pertaining to their expense and claims, but I knew they were different....I have lots of artist grade brands and these weren't like any of them. I think it's great to find watercolours that suit a particular style of painting as the medium is never easy...your review has helped so much with giving me confidence to know when to use them and when not to! This must have taken you ages to do....can't thank you enough and yes please more reviews like this if you can bear to do it! Love your art work, very inspiring your portraits.....sorry I've rambled!!!

      Do you have the new travel pocket palette? Marty at Owings Art has it and did a review and said the pans are slightly smaller than the Schminke pans and the website said they are standard pans. I would like to know for sure before I order one if the half pans are interchangeable. Do you have one to try with other brands? Thanks!

    I've been considering trying Qor and this is the best review video I've found on the product. I normally use Holbein and D.S so far...I chose Holbein to start learning because the ox gall, they don't move as much. More control as I normally use acrylic. I thought it would be a better one for me to transition and ease the learning curve over the last year) Thank you making, truly a pro quality comparison, ps. Thank you for the aquasol explanation, I only understood the basic principles and did not understand the difference with arabic gum. The part I found funny all my RUclips go to professionals that I love and use to give myself a good watercolor education have commented on your videos. She really does have some of the best, most thorough reviews, researches the product. I just love that. And it makes the price worth it. The swatching was beautiful, then the color chart, and that color circle was a really cool idea. It is kind of annoying to me when someone swatches the colors, but doesn'tt show how they mix, or doesn't paint with them. The portraits were lovely, and so were the flowers. Really impressive all the way around.
      The only thing left out, might be if you put the paints into a pan or pallet and let them dry, and see if you get the same color from the dried paint, do they rewet easily?

    I just saw this for the first time a couple days ago so I am very late to this qor review party but I enjoyed this review SO MUCH!! I have been kinda surprised by how much some people dislike this particular brand. I’m personally kind of in love with their mini set and especially love how staining everything is bc I think I work in layers best. I also did not know that they had tested their purple so much so that is just an extra bonus! Anyways, just wanted to say thanks for reviewing this set and including so much information! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

    What a crazy in depth review! I love Qor and Golden paints and I looove Golden as a company. I'm not surprised they were super transparent with you. I think every local college's art department tours the factory at least once a year (I'm a stone's throw from New Berlin) and everyone will take as long as the tour wants to answer questions. They're just so into producing the best products and so many of them are artists as well - I feel like that comes through so much in their products that I don't even get mad at the price.

      The tubes are versatile because you can make pans of it, but the pan set is cool because of the silicone insert! I would get the pans to travel with but the tubes for studio use.

    Beautiful review! QOR was my first set of professional watercolors (brights and earth tones). I have since added MANY colors to my collection. I was acrually surprised when I tried other brands and they did not jump across the page like QOR does 🤣. They make some AMAZING effects when doing wet into wet technique. Their lightfastness has held true. My works from a yr ago still look the same today. The only 2 downfalls I can think of: there are a few colors that are a bit flakey when you let them dry in pans (I prefer to work with these straight from the tube), but you can disperse the color on your mixing palette fairly easily. The other is one you mentioned (that can actually be a major plus when glazing), their staining quality across the whole line. You do have to be more creative when you make a mistake with these vs another brand that lifts off the page. I love love love these paints and always recommend them to others. My main palette is made from a combination of these and Daniel Smith. You should definitely try QORs indanthrone blue. Love and light 💗🌻

    To say your review was outstanding would be an understatement. It just may be the best one I've ever seen. I never gave QoR a second thought, until I saw your review. Lightfast ratings are important to me. Now I'm more than interested. I wish they were a bit easier on the pocket book though. That is the only drawback I can see. Hopefully in the future I can test a few of these colors out.

    Great in depth review! I've been really itching to try these for a while, but their crazy dispersion and super staining qualities are an issue for me. I prefer to work wet on wet, and rely on lifting highlights while wet and sometimes while dry as well. The QOR paint looks like it will just flow everywhere, and I'll have a hard time lifting highlight, softening or correcting mistakes. I just need more control. I do think it can be amazing to work with them wet on dry though, as you did :) We'll see how long I'll manage to hold out, as I think they'll end up in my drawer, sad and unused.

    • @SadieSavestheDay
      @SadieSavestheDay  6 лет назад

      Oh no! Poor sad paints! I can see what you mean though, they could be more difficult to use if you don’t want the pint to shoot across the page wet in wet. Softening is no issue though! But lifting was not happening for me at all 😂

    ...it is great to know that they are SOOO staining. You want the paint the to stick to the paper like shit-to-a-blanket. This is excellent, because it means you can rough house the pigment and paper a bit; just be quick with the blotting paper or sponge.
    Have you done a glazing chart with the QoRs ? Have you ever glazed w/c by airbrush ? I wasn't sure about them but will definitely invest in the intro set. The spin doctor mentioned Milford paper as the rolls royce of w/c papers .Perhaps you could try the QoRs on that.Thanks for your demo. Cheers. Sadie has saved my wallet.

    I have to remind myself when I go from other brands back to Qor to use less b/c they don't get lighter as they dry and I can end up with too much color (or darkness, or mud) very quickly. But nothing blends like them. They are very watercolor-y watercolors in that respect!

  • @Blissfulthings

    One of the best reviews I've seen Sadie, I will admit of all my brands of watercolours these are certainly the "wild child" lol. I do wish the price point could be lower, per ML as they are the most expensive . I do like you can do details first and not loose them in washes later!

    • @SadieSavestheDay

      Thank you!! Yes they are a bit more expensive, but I don’t mind for certain colors, like dioxazine violet. 😂 wild child is certainly a way to describe them!

    Greetings Sade. Question for you- Have much water are you putting down for your dispersion test? How wet are you getting the paper? Thank you for the review. I bought several QoR sets that I'm really excited to try. Cheers,

    Thank you so much for doing this. Between another video and yours, I think these will fit well in my supplies. I'm more mixed media leaning and these will work nicely with mixed with standard watercolors and other media I like to use! It's been 4 years. Do you still use them as much? Did any become staples?

    Great review! Have been wondering about their paints. I will have to say I have tried a few of their tubes but they were special colors. If you get the chance, really try out the Bohemian Green Earth and the Titan Buff. The Bohemian Green Earth is one of my all time favorites!

    Fantastic review - the best I've seen. My question is why so many of the tubes say they contain carcinogenic ingredients per California regulations. Usually only the cadmiums are labeled that way. Do you have any information on this?

    Woah, what a comprehensive video! QoR Watercolors only come in sets in Ireland I've found, and I can't seem to commit to 6 extra tubes that will get lost among other colours or in case I don't vibe well with them :(

    Fabriano Artistico have also contributed to the staining problem of the paints... lately they have a lifting issues.. Lots of artists have the same comments....

    A few questions, please. Where did you get the wonderful pre-prints swatch paper and the cool color mixing chart and color wheel? Secondly, I have a main pallet of Windsor Newton and Daniel Smith. If I want to set up a second pallet, would you use Qor or M. Graham? I've never used either. Thanks for the video.

    This was a fantastic review of this set you outdid yourself. I’ve been looking at buying this set for my nature journaling/urban sketching kit. You sold me on it. The only things that consent me are the inability to lift and the glazing comments

    • @SadieSavestheDay
      @SadieSavestheDay  5 лет назад

      I really hope you like it! Lifting depends on the paper, but for me on Fabriano artistico, it is really staining. But I love glazing with these colors!

      Hmm if you mean a student set, I would get a set of van Gogh watercolors, as they are my favorite of that grade. For professional watercolors I would like to recommend m Graham to start with, but I think if you just want to pick up a set with a good selection of colors I think Daniel smith essentials set has the best range to start working with. ( I’m only not saying these because they are a bit different than some other watercolors and might be difficult if you have never really used watercolors before)

      The paints are beautiful! Do you mean French ultramarine? It is a really nice version. As far as I can tell, all of the paints have this blooming effect.

    Just got your beautiful swatch sheet! Do you have them printed on Arches watercolor paper? Is the cold press paper flat enough to take the fine lines? Does it matter whether or not I draw a transparency line on the paper and then have the copy store print it, or is it better to use a sharpie pen on the actual watercolor paper? Thanks again!
    Paula in Florida

    • @SadieSavestheDay
      @SadieSavestheDay  6 лет назад

      I print mine on Fabriano Artistico since that’s my preferred paper at the moment. On that paper it works with cold press but I’m not sure on other brands. I assume it would work on anything not too rough though! It shouldn’t matter about the first line as long as it is waterproof. The second line you should put after painting over the first one. Hope this wasn’t too late! Hi fellow Floridian!
