Yay! You and Mikki are two of my favorites so I'm hype to see you both working together! Also, gosh, your collection is drool-worthy. Ugh. I need more handmade watercolors but I'm kind of at the "I need more paints like I need another hole in my head" sort of situation, which is one of the reasons I've been holding myself back. Just realized I haven't bought any new paints in a good long while and that's kind of something good for me, I suppose. You're making me almost regret my current stingy ways. =>.
I’m so happy to work with Mikki, she’s absolutely amazing! 😆 I know what you mean about the paint situation, but I really wanted to show these off in time for gift giving. Sometimes it’s good to step away from the shopping tbh
Thank you so so much for including my Aloha watercolors in your review! I do put a whole lot of pigment in each paint and I'm happy that it shows in your video. I truly enjoyed watching this (and also the other part of the review)! Aloha from Hawaii.
Thank you for making this series, Sadie. Not only was it super informative and inspirational, but so, so calming. Just watching you swatch beautiful colours while listening to your (very soothing) voice is really relaxing and helping me take my mind off things. Hope you are doing well. Much love.
I’m late to your videos, but I love, love, handmade watercolors and have ONE lonely BEAM PAINT STONE, that I hope to add to in the near future. I have also purchased some handmade wc from from Etsy...even some from Spain and the U.K., and very reasonable shipping, I might say. It’s so great that through art we can be such a supportive international and inter-cultural community and that it just “happens” because people come together through their creativity. I just subscribed. 😁 Thanks for this great review!
Thanks for sharing all these! I visited CFM when I lived in San Francisco, and it was one of the most unpleasant shopping experiences I've ever had as a customer. They have great products, but it was not a welcoming environment.
Oh me too! The first time I went I was met with a rude young woman who was more interested in her sketchbook than customer service. However, I decided to give them another shot and the next time I went I was greeted by a young man who was more welcoming and helpful. I saw some reviews on Yelp where some other customers had the same issue. It is such a shame, I think they definitely need to work on their customer service.
Part of it, I think, is just San Francisco. Every time I'm there, no matter where I go, the culture feels unwelcoming. Being from out of state, it's very different to feel so unwelcome as a customer.
Well that was quite the review! I really enjoyed your video but must admit I am particularly happy that you included Beam Paints … we on Manitoulin Island are very proud of Anong Beam and the exposure she has received … thank you
Thanks for posting this, because you are helping those of us whom have never bought handmade watercolors, or got burned by some bad ones. I once purchased some handmade watercolors off Etsy. When I got them, they were a bit hard. They really required some 'scrubbing' to get the color up. So I decided to put a bit of water on them and let them sit. They got moldy. Sigh. And I had been so excited about using them. I had bought a small snap-close box at The Container Store for them, and was going to take them to my sketch group. So thanks for this review.
What an absolutely incredible video. I love that you added links to purchase these product. I love supporting small businesses and giving them my honest dollar.
Wow, these products are so unusual and it's such a good idea to consult these unknown brands for the holidays like you said! This video is so valuable, I wish I could give it a thousand likes, thank you for doing this!
Ever since I got my hands on the hushwings palette, Ive been searching for some good handmade watercolour paints on etsy and nothing has really intrigued me as much as hushwing did. This video has soooooooooooooo many new companies that I never heard of before - how do you find them? I really love the stories about each store, it really loves them a personality that big companies do not have. The idea of Beam's paint in wood is interesting. How does the watercolour work on it? As in does it get adsorbed in the wood? Those tiny little particles on the pink pipestone colour from case for making - LOVE.
I too enjoy using some watercolors that I adore but that there is no professional lightfast pigment info for, like Pelikan, opaque & transparent. They are made in Germany and have been around for ages and are very high quality. They are very close to pro, but Pelikan does not disclose their pigments....so I would not sell the original work I create with them, but having giclee prints made or using them for digital reproduction works out great!
I haven't watched the video yet but I have seen these on Insta and would love some just because they're from Assisi and I've been there and is sooo beautiful. The shipping and potential import tax and mail surcharge put me off buying them though. Sticking them on my wish list though.
I gotta say that they are for sure worth it though!

So jealous >< It's always either out of stock or just sold out for me! Or I have no funds xD Still!! It makes me so happy to see this video! Handmade watercolors should definitely be supported!
I know what you mean! You have to have quick fingers for sure! They sell like hot cakes 😂 But I’m so happy to see it! Supporting these businesses Bad put so much into supporting artists means so much to me.
I loved watching this, thank you. I tried to get to the Aloha site you quoted, as I was interested in trying these paints, but it only goes to her Etsy store where paintings and digital products are sold. Could you perhaps give me a link to her store where one can purchase paints?
You can purchase paints from her Etsy shop, but perhaps she is already sold out from the last restock. I think the next one is in February, but you can try emailing her about it 😊
Love the review on all these artist paints, I am just beginning to make my own shimmer paints and color shift paints. I loved the presentation and you bring to light many good qualities. I think I am on the right track. I would love to send you some of my shimmer /metallic paints just to get your personal feedback. Would you be interested in proving me your opinions?
Can u please tell me the price of the creative kinds watercolors? I can considering buying it. Thank you for such a wonderful review of amazing paints!
Nice, however what is the problem with what you called "toxic" pigments?...we do not eat watercolors 🤷🏻♂️...I am sure you have connract with more toxic products on your dayly lifestile.
The dry pigments can be highly damaging to lungs and should be handled with care. Some people prefer not to use cadmium colors for that reason. On another layer, as a consumer of toxic pigments, you are encouraging the production of such pigments and the risks to those who work with the raw products during collection (like cobalt mines) or production (like working with cadmium pigments in factory) are very real and are a direct result of your use of these pigments. It's up to you whether you use them or not, and it's irrelevant how many other toxic items you may come in contact with. Some people want to do what they can to limit these pigments in their personal use or want to limit the effects of them on people and environment (such as when paint water is disposed of).

Sadie! Hope you are well. It has been a long time. I was just using the bookmark you sent me.
Hii! Aw I’m so glad. I’m doing better. I hope the end of this year is treating you well 💙
Have you tried the Schmincke shimmer watercolours? I was SHOOK at how well they rewet and how much pay off came off them.
Ooh I think I will have to get them in order to do the full review and comparison with The Creative Kinds!
@@SadieSavestheDay Yes, please do! They are wonderful.
Just curious, if you were to give one of these to a very accomplished professional botanical artist, which would you choose?
