    ------------
Video description: Advanced Fighter jets are not only equipped with advanced weaponry, powerful engines to give better performances and so on. But one very important system that is equipped in every fighters is Radar which is able to detect, track, and identify many targets quickly and at long ranges, and to operate in hostile electronic warfare environments. Few countries are making additional modern advanced radar to compete with their competitors.
Fighter radars are classified into two types: mechanically and electrically scanning. The latter are classified into three types: passive scanning, active scanning, and hybrid tilters. An active electronically scanned array is a sort of phased array antenna, which is a computer-controlled array antenna in which radio wave beams may be electrically directed to point in different directions without moving the antenna. Each antenna element in the AESA is linked to a compact solid-state transmit/receive module (TRM) controlled by a computer, which performs the tasks of a transmitter and/or receiver for the antenna. In contrast, a passive electronically scanned array (PESA) connects all of the antenna components to a single transmitter and/or receiver through phase shifters controlled by a computer. The primary use of AESA is in radar, which is known as active phased array radar.

Possibly just as important to the detection range, and maybe even more important, is the range that you can get a track. You need to be able to track a target (aka target lock) before you can fire at it. That can be much lower than the detection range.
Also, the range given is meaning less with out giving the radar crass section of the target. A radar that can detect a 5 m^2 target at 200 km is not bette rthan a radar that can detect a 1 m^2 target at 150 km.

Point you to a crucial point! This is why the Rafale and its RBE2-AA radar often outclass adversaries with a much more powerful radar but much less precise and which hangs much less.
It's something that the Indians have seen with the arrival of this new platform, is that in simulated combat their Rafales literally spray their Sukhoi 30 MkI.
Basically this platform was to serve as a bomber, but obviously it is also doing very well, with the meteor to ensure the supremacy of India over China and the Pakistani.
Much better than their Sukhoi with this huge radar which hangs on nothing but can be heard, can be detected from far away.

@@RIRI-el6xm JSF were meant to be multirole from the start (A2A/A2G), turned out to be Omnirole.
Key design parameters required JSF to match or out-perform the F-16 & F/A-18, which they have demonstrated.
The F-16 is one of the most lethal 4th Gen fighters ever produced, with an 88:1 or 2 kill ratio.
F-35s outclass the F-16 in A2A by orders of magnitude beyond what it will ever be able to accomplish.
The F-35 series also exceed the A2G, Anti-Ship, and other mission set capabilities of the latest F-16s or any other 4th Gen fighters.

@@LRRPFco52 Already to be Omnirole, it would have to fly, then also that it does not k1ll its pilots. In 1 month, another 2" 2 iron 35" were lost, 1 F35B at sea during a landing and an F35 A in South Korea.
The F35 is not really Omnirole and will never squeeze it for several points:
Its rate of climb and its speed, shitty to make interception. Its maneuverability, not terrible for combat.
The main thing and the fact that it only has one turbo fan means that it will never be a good close support aircraft (as proof the URSAF is modernizing its A10s... and does not rely on it at all ) It is also necessary to take the 25mm cannon in the nacelle ... LOL ... in Close supports it is 0 pointed.
The Rafales with its two engines and its great maneuverability, they can do all the close support missions of France. Like just doing a show force passage to calm down the groups of African rebels or the Taliban, and this without fear of a reactor impact or a Man pad...
Same thing at sea level, for aircraft carriers, a single turbo fan is just suicide at sea.
It's the recent speech of uncle sam (we heard the same in all the wars he lost (we are the best) that is to say, all lost since WW2
The F16 has never really measured against fighters of the same standard... It's the same thing for the F15. It's easy to win when you only fight infinitely weaker enemies. The F16s never went into a high intensity fight, but against old Soviet migs, with totally obsolete standards, 6 cowboys against 1 bandit and with AWACS coverage to be sure...
All therefore, against Migs piloted by incompetent and stupid Arabs... Who to go in 1vs 6 without having a fox 3 missile not even sure that they had fox 1...
      Therefore :
Believing that his truncate statistics are pertianat is just a joke....
Finally, once in Greece An F16 to shoot with a Greek Mirage
      (F16 C against a Mirage 2000 RDM, ) result destruction of the Turkish F16.
The F16 is a good aircraft, but nothing more.
What matters is the doctrine, the standard, the equipment they carry, and the choice of weapons (missiles etc)
Often poor countries have missiles that are outdated and can be fooled, jammed easily. When they don't only have fox 2
An F16 of the latest Block 72 style with an AESA radar, AM120-Ds and a competent pilot
there ok, this is scary... A Turkish F16C, not DSL.
Your F16, against a serious competitor with equivalent avionics and stadart, often does not make the weight, in reality.
It's the same thing for the Russian saucepan (fighter), If opposite there were the latest standard mig 31s with competent Russian pilots, and their latest missile, the ratio would not be the same.
He can't already measure himself against the Mirage 2000 with equal standards, you can't imagine the distortion with the Rafale which is also maneuvering without pushing twice as hard, has an AESA radar, frontal obtronics and Credible Fox 3 missiles (meteor).
As for his generational story, it's just ridiculous
      Only the specifications count.
The F35 and the Rafale are almost the same schedule of tasks.
      Collaborative network warfare, multi-mission.
The F35 has a hold and better stealth in the frontal sector, a more powerful radar.
The Rafale has better terrain tracking option (super low flight) better missiles, frontal optronics
With a better power weight, a higher rate of climb, an unequaled maneuverability of super cruising.
(greater autonomy and greater carrying capacity)
Better reliability and much easier maintenance
cost per flight hour 2 times cheaper.
Eventually, when all the bugs will be patched, the F35 will probably be a very good plane. Today it is not really combat proven.
Currently the best in this category is the Dassault Rafale F3r, followed by the Boeing F18 E/f and the F35 only far behind these two.
The other Europeans do not know how to make such a sophisticated and multi-mission fighter, the Russians are picking up and the Chinese are 20 years behind the Russians, Russians who are 10 behind us.
The Japanese haven't done anything since World War II.
      The Koreans have no experience.
The Indians can't make anything stolen on their own without the help of the French.
Objectively, given the fighters in the world, the choice of the F35 is irrelevant. Having Boeng in his 1st delta wing version was much more believable... The f35 is too expensive and too complex an aircraft to be a good war fighter.

Detection range and actual weapons track ranges are different. Also being able to track a B52 at 250 kilometres is not very convincing but being able to track an F22 at 80k is. The ability to orbit around a target so giving little of your own position is equally useful and a repositioner can do this so is better than a fixed system.
The radar that can operate in low probability of intercept ( low power ) and still remain functional adds to the versitality of the system
as having a good library of return profiles to make comparisons.

In a top-10 list, if you even allow any PESA Radar into the mix, you have failed. PESA fighter Radars are nowhere near the top-10. Here are the actual top 10:
    5th Gen
APG-81(V)1 Latest JSF AESA integrated with AN/ASQ-239, AN/AAQ-37, and EOTS
APG-77(V)1 Upgraded Raptor AESA integrated with AN/ALR-94(V)X
    __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________-
APG-79(V)4 Latest Hornet/Super Hornet AESA which has the new GaN TRM technology where 30% faster electron mobility is found over Silicon SC
CAPTOR-E Mk2 UK AESA for Typhoon with mix of GaN and GaA TRMs, higher TRM count than CAPTOR-E Mk1
    APG-63(V)3
    APG-82
CAPTOR-E Mk1 Luftwaffe/Spanish Air Force Typhoon upgrade program
    CAPTOR-E Mk0 Kuwait Typhoon Radar
APG-79 legacy in Block 2 Super Hornets
    RBE2 in the Rafale
APG-83 SABR upgrade program for 350 Later Block CCIP F-16CM in USAF service
APG-63(V)3 and APG-82 both have the largest antenna arrays and were suspected of having the highest TRM counts for a long time, but actual TRM counts are tightly-guarded on them and the APG-77.
With each generational improvement in semi conductor materials science that is actually producible in numbers suitable for prime US DoD contractors, you will see a major capabilities upgrades at that time. For many years since their initial R&D, GaN TRMs promised substantial improvements in performance, but were too expensive to source for the TRM counts on ESAs for large fighter fleets. That cost barrier has been broken in the last 4 years, with the biggest purchasing power in the JSF, ATF upgrade, Super Hornet upgrade, and legacy Hornet upgrade fleets. The next largest customer base I’m aware of is the UK with the CAPTOR-E Mk2 which uses the mix of GaN and GaA TRMs in the Antenna Array, with a higher TRM count than the CAPTOR-E Mk1 and Mk0.
To do this comparison, you would need a graph that represents actual detection and tracking ranges on specific RCS value targets, TRM counts, power amp performance, EW/ECM/ECCM features, cooling and thermal operating performance at peak/mid/low power modes, LPI features, and all of these are classified.

@@LRRPFco52 Oh, that's nice. It was extremely informative to read your comments. Can I ask you one question? In a hypothetical future war scenario, how would an F-35 fare against the S-400 or S-500?

    • @LRRPFco52
      @LRRPFco52 2 года назад

@@Justadreamer29 Israeli F-35Is have already been negating Russian AF IADS systems in Syria as a rule for many years now, and overflew the new integrated Air Defense Network Russia helped install in Iran a few years ago.
S-400 is a system of systems, not a single platform. There are layers of missile defense really meant for strategic coverage of Russian airspace for incoming ICBMs, bombers, and cruise missiles.
Tactical fighter systems are meant to be detected by other layers and nomenclature systems with appropriate sensor and weapons employment zones.
The problem for land-based systems in dealing with true VLO platforms like JSF is the curvature of the earth. In order to get the widespread networked sensor coverage from mobile platforms, you need a way to connect with each other that deals with that curvature.
By the time you do satellite or airborne relay platforms, your vulnerabilities are significant. Then factor in decoy missiles, VLO cruise missiles, jammer decoy missiles (where US cruise missile program came from), high ECM environment, anti-satellite weapons that have been in-play since the 1970s, and the Electronic Attack capabilities of JSF, and the force structure is quite overwhelming.
This is why Russia invests in buying-off US politicians, to avoid having to ever go toe-to-toe with US conventional forces. That was true with many White Houses, Senators, Congressmen, DoD officials, CIA Directors, you name it. These efforts date back to at least the FDR WH, so it is quite entrenched. For example, Russia bought most of Joe Biden’s senate campaign through a front group in 1972 to get him in.
Clinton’s have been on Russian payroll since no later than the mid-1980s, as well as on China’s, Pakistan’s, etc. Obama was raised to be a Manchurian candidate. Bush41 was likely in China’s pocket in the 1970s-forward. Evidence is in their financial behavior, which the intelligence agencies know about but can’t report on.

Not even close. GaN TRMs and semiconductors were developed and are manufactured in large enough quantities in the US. There are more GaN TRMs in legacy Hornets now than the Gripen E will ever have, and legacy Hornets are nowhere near the top priority for GaN TRM AESAs.

    • @LRRPFco52
      @LRRPFco52 2 года назад

@@Desire123ification Everything I stated is factually correct.
All the cutting edge semiconductor development and large-scale military orders for latest SC technology are driven by US DoD, with US-bssed SC companies who have tight military-industrial clearance for supplying those parts.
UK, Canada, and Australia have the next-highest priority in that supply chain.
GaN TRMs develooment, manufacturing, quality control, and defect rate reduction was all pioneered in the US using chemical vapor deposition technology.
Defects per cm2 are the big roadblock in GaN SC manufacturing, and what made it prohibitively-expensive for anyone else.
Each AESA antenna array has anywhere from 1500-2000+ TRMs in US AESAs, so when you scale that to hundreds of fighters, you start to see the economy of scale and demand-driven industry response.
A tiny enterprise at Saab with a few dozen orders has almost no pull in that sector, whereas JSF with thousands of orders, F-22A with 120 combat-coded Raptors in an increment upgrade program, over 620 Super Hornets, scores of legacy Hornets getting GaN TRM-equipped APG-79(V)4 right now in USMC and Canada, and the UK's Eurofighter CAPTOR-E Mk2 GaN TRM requirements...will dwarf anything Saab is working on for the next 20 years.
In short, any defense industry SC manufacturers who are cleared will feed the demand from the biggest customers with the largest order volumes.
It makes zero sense for them to service tiny orders to a little program with no real support, low forecast for future orders.
It does make sense to service orders to fleets with thousands of units on-order in various programs of record, as well as to the same companies who are also upgrading large legacy fleets.

@@LRRPFco52 Let me bring the discussion, to your level of comprehension (hopefully by then it would be crystal clear). A substitution of planes with cars for that matter. A Rolls Royce (F 22), Lamborghini (F 35), Ferrari (F 18 E/F), Maserati (F 15), Aston Martin (F 16) and Ford Mustang (Gripen). The cars are subjected to a grueling battery of test. Seriously running the gauntlet: In children pool, mud, dust, woodland, rocks and gravel. In all likelihood, the Mustang has a better chance to come out less damaged and easy to repair, promptly back on the road! You tell me, which is better?

@@Desire123ification My level of comprehension comes from being in aerospace and defense since the 1970s, with most of the aerospace-relevant experience from the Air Force Flight Test Center, West German Flight Test Center's AeroE Course curriculum, USAF Air Planner Course, Joint Forces operational Large Force Exercises, and deployments to PACOM, CENTCOM, and EUCOM.
Multiple members of my family and I have worked on or with mostly USAF developmental fighter and weapons systems programs since the 1970s.
Your car analogy doesn't work, but I see the false premises you were trying to support with it, and refer you back to the Tesla model I mentioned.
A Tesla will crush a Mustang/Ferrari/Lambo/etc. no matter what you do to them. When you actually need to use them, you need roof racks, a police-style spotlight bolted to the L A pillar, a radar detector suction-cupped to the windshield, Jerry cans mounted on a bumper rack, with a towed trailer.
Picture that for all the cars you mentioned. That's 4th Gen.
JSF is more like a Koenigsegg hybrid propulsion system vehicle with Tesla driver display, networked with other Teslas that track the locations of speed traps via an encrypted net that isn't accessible to anyone else because of the physical structures of the data transfer/receive devices and the protocols they use.
The Tesla has a smaller maintenance footprint with prognostic systems management.
Gripen E is like a Honda Civic bred with a 1970s Volvo with a weak muffler job and a tablet radio installed. Struggles to tow the roof racks, let alone the trailer and Jerry cans. Nobody knows what it will take to fix it because only a handful of prototypes have been built, and they still don't have the police spotlight mounted in the A pillar.
A 1970s Chevelle SS 454 with a massive tow trailer hitched to it still crushes the Volvo clean 0-60mph. It's pathetic really.
