    *Clog LUTs Updated for Clog 3* - geni.us/ClogLUTs
    Remember that Clog 3 base ISO is 800, not 400 like regular Clog. I've noticed a bit more noise in the shadows for Clog 3, but I do like that it you can shoot in Cinema Gamut which more closely matches the Canon Cinema line.

      Thank you for sending the clog 3 luts out. Can you do me a favor and make them to up to -3.00 stops in 1/3 increments instead of -2.00? I shot some footage this weekend and exposed to the right and did not clip but I believe I was closer to 3 stops over so I need to counteract that with -3.00 for clog3 cinemagamut to rec709 10bit

    Had't seen the peripheral illumination correction setting before, thanks for that tip! One thing for those running into overheating issues in HQ even with the new firmware: if you shoot in normal quality 4K but with crop mode enabled it's actually upsampling 5.1K down to 4K and looks nearly identical to the HQ. The advantage is there's no overheating issue in this mode. This does change your crop factor though, so if you need to shoot ultrawide (say 15mm full frame) then switch back to HQ in those instances to get your wider shots.

    After watching this video over a year ago, I always wondered why you said to set the zeros at 45 IRE for skin tones, when good exposure for lighter skin tones is between 60 and 70 IRE. After about a year of shooting in CLog3, and always accidentally overexposing, Even though I had my zebra settings to appear at 65 IRE, I found thatmy footage would always come out over exposed, and I couldn't wrap my head around it until I did a bunch of testing and compared it to the histogram. FINALLY I found that exposing skin tones at "proper exposure" according to the zebras in camera is actually overexposing. I finally landed on 45 IRE, and bam your video makes sense now!

As-usual, your content is right on. Just dropping a comment for anyone using 3rd party lenses like Sigma/Tamron, DON'T use the Lens Correction options like Peripheral Illumination Correction, Chromatic Aberration Correction or Distortion Correction. Turning those features on with 3rd party glass is known to cause communication errors with these lenses and can even hurt AF performance. I personally keep them all "Off" and adjust them in post when colour correcting, if needed. Everything else noted here is a nice tip and for those of you who can't be bothered with C-Log, the classic Prolost Picture Profile setting is still tried and true, even on the latest Canon cameras. Combined with Highlight Tone Priority, Prolost will consistently produce nice, semi-flat easy to grade, neutral images straight out of camera so long as you nail your exposure.

    • @thefilmpoets
      @thefilmpoets  3 года назад +1

      Nice tips on the third party lenses. Illumination correction is supposed to only work with Canon glass. Also, for picture profiles, I always love Marvels Cine. It's essentially prolost with an extra bump in the shadows. Thats the profile we used for the last 9 years with every 8 bit Canon body. -Matt

    Why choose BT709 over BT2020?

    • @thefilmpoets
      @thefilmpoets  3 года назад +4

      Right now there are very few SDR BT2020 workflows that make sense. Also almost no rec 2020 external monitors are affordable for R5 shooters.
      But if you're ready for a rec2020 workflow go for it, you just have to keep all cameras at rec2020 and timelines. Also the end user is likely to still see only rec709 because of the lack of rec 2020 support in displays.
      So you're spreading 10bit color across a wider gamut and then that gamut will get clipped right before anyone sees it. I'd rather stuff all 10bits into the color space that will be seen to the end user. Remember you cant stuff color's outside of the color gamut into a smaller gamut.
