In this video I'm showing you how to change the key fob in this Jeep key fob. It's a simple process that will only take but a few minutes of your time. All you need is your new 2032 battery and a little screwdriver is helpful. Remove the emergency key fob use that to open up the case. Remove your old battery and then place the new battery in the existing slot. Close it up and you're all set!

Just what I needed, thank you! Last time I took it to a battery store, they charged me $30 to install a battery in it. I decided it couldn’t be too hard and had ordered the batteries from Amazon and hoped I could find a video that was straight to the point and this was it, even my 5 year old wanted to help me after watching the tutorial. Excellent video. It's 2023 and the new fobs have a slight design change, but these instructions still apply. There is now a rubber o-ring to keep out moisture and spring clips to keep the battery in place. Despite these changes your video is still a great guide for opening the fob, replacing the battery, and resealing the fob.

You can program a Jeep key fob by following these steps:
Be sure to close your trunk and doors before entering your Jeep.
Keep your key in the “OFF” position and insert it into the ignition.
Let the driver’s side door ajar.
While the door is still open, turn the lock, so it’s in the ‘lock’ position.
Set the ignition to “ON.”
Hold down the “LOCK” button for five seconds on your remote.
Take the key out of the ignition and release the button.

Unless you are swapping circuit boards, nothing should change from a simple battery replacement

@Paula Simon Unfortunately company can make up to $200 dollars charging us to do this. That could be why putting it in the manual is not a concern.
Great video, thanks, however the small metal part where the back up key goes in as well as the little spring came out. How to put it back right please? I thought i dod but the key is not staying in the remote now.

I got a bit different picture, as the part was splitting in 3 parts before I got to the battery, but the main thing is - how to open the fob key making sure I don't break the key at all 😉
Replaced batteries in both fobs but lock and unlock don’t work. It used to. Is there a resync process or something
After driving for over 30 years, I finally came into the 21st century. I got my first Jeep (and first vehicle with a key fob) about 2 months ago. While I haven't needed to change the battery, I did wonder how to do it. Thank you for the video. Very helpful showing how easy it is.

Great Video! Make sure you insert the battery with the + side down (aginst the black plastic FOB case)!!!! Also on another FOB, only the Lock/Unlock buttons didn't work. I found moisture on the battery & wiped off the moisture, closed the FOB case & now everything now works!

Thanks for sharing. Opening the fob with the key is not always easy though. I found the best way to do it is with a large screwdriver.

Thank you...maybe I’m an idiot but I did not remove the sticker off the battery (I Honestly didn’t know I’ve never had to remove a sticker from any battery in my life) so it didn’t work and I was so frustrated ...When I finally did remove the sticker put it back and squeeze it tight (which was really weird that I had to squeeze the seams back together… ) It worked! Thank you so very much

That was GREAT! So helpful. It’s 4:30am and a terribly heavy thunderstorm and my key fob decided to give me trouble. Luckily, I keep an extra battery in my console for this. I forgot how to change it tho so, this helped me to get it opened!!

What is that actual key used for?
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I went to Avis earlier this week to rent a Prius only to find out that they don’t rent Prius. So I ended up having to get this jeep compass which I didn’t want because I didn’t want an all gasoline car. But anyway make a long story short the car gave me nothing but trouble on top of not being the car that I wanted and then I go to turn it on & it tells me that my key fob battery is almost gone. So it’s like 7 o’clock at night I didn’t even know if it used a battery or if the battery was replaceable you literally were the first video I found and you absolutely saved my life! I just happened to have the exact type of batteries from something else I used take care, so I’m hoping that I’m good to go now. Again thank you very, very much!

Jeep dealers “yeah that’ll be $60 plus tax, oh and those broken sensors. Yeah those aren’t in stock nor covered under warranty. Is this a flat tire too?(inserting knife into tire as fellow mechanic takes my wallet) thanks for this inexpensive alternative
