People often forget how young Kyle was when he started. That was NOT the norm when he came in. Of course he has a huge ego but all great drivers have a big ego. Earnhardt Sr. had one of the biggest I've ever seen. He just carried himself differently, like he was cooler than everyone else.
T. Riley Roo, I disagree. I worked at DIS 1996-2006 as part of the security/safety teams. Dale Earnhardt Sr did NOT have a huge ego at all. What he did have was a very high confidence level and he started from nothing and earned every step that got him to be the greatest race car driver in NASCAR's history.
Yet if Kyle would not have said anything through the media. The entire coming to the realization that things had to change within TRD. Probably would have either taken longer, or never would have happened...
Toyota employees more Americans than many other 'american' brands, and they have respected their customers much more over the long term aswell by making reliable vehicles that last a long time, even when almost everyone else was selling eye candy that would break down in 4 years.
Agreed, with the way they’ve gotten involved in grass roots blue collar motorsports, and gave nascar a full hearted effort, and all the cars and trucks and factories they’re building in the United States, they can be considered American if that’s what they want
I know this series is two years old, but I am such a fan of Kyle and am enjoying this series. I'm 70 yrs old and have followed NASCAR as long as it's been televised. Dale Sr was my guy. When he passed, I looked for a new "bad boy" driver and Kyle filled that requirement. It takes a strong personality, someone willing to take chances, someone to do whatever it takes, and someone who is in it for the wins, not the fan points. Kyle is on par in those regards with Dale Sr. I'll be a fan as long as he's on the racetrack.
Not a huge 18 fan, but he has matured. Can't deny he CAN be a force any raceday. Last year humbled him some. As strange as last year was, 2021 shaping up to be a doozie in many ways.

He has nobody to blame but himself. When I worked at DIS 1996-2006 as part of the security/safety teams, several times I hoped that he'd flip me the bird or spew out his vulgar insults that he often did with fans, security people and NASCAR officials. Luckily, for him, he never did. Currently, KB is suspended until he passes sensitivity classes or he can't compete in the 2022 NASCAR season which is less than 3 months away.
I judge drivers on their personality, which is why i never liked the busch bros. Same with harvick, all three of them (especially kurt, please don't crucify me) have matured very well, to a point as i even pull for Kurt, i just couldn't get over Kyle's attitude, not that he isn't an absolute wheelman, but he just seemed like an awful person to be around, i'm glad they've changed their ways
I can't speak about Kurt or Harvick because I haven't met them, but I met Kyle at a local short track in 2008 and he was a very nice guy and didn't mind having a conversation with you. My right hand was in a cast at the time and he actually went out of his way to ask me what happened to my hand, I still have that cast with Kyle's signature on it, as well as Regan Smith and Ryan Newman. I believe Kyle just turns into a completely different guy when he's on the race track. My driver at the time was Ryan Newman and I met him the same race weekend and he looked like he couldn't possibly get out of there fast enough. But Regan and Kyle were both very friendly guys.
Being a fan of someone because they are charming is fine so is your neighbor that is running your wife. Most racers aren't nice to everyone they are competitive and add to that they can't trust anyone and can't depend on keeping their sponsor or ride it's hard not to look like a terrible person. That's why after Dale died I stopped watching then watched Smoke and Harvick I want to see a competitive driver with consistent abilities others don't don't have not a soap opera. If nascar ever becomes a competitive motor sport instead of trying to be more politically correct than cnn I might start watching again I retired from watching nascar and the nfl last year
Alot of people stood behind Kyle and gave him 2nd and even 3rd chances when he screwed up. One of the biggest IMO was the Hornaday incident where he basically ended his championship chances. That was huge and I thought that was the end of Kyle right there.
he’s dealt with an agonizing decade of infertility with his sweet wife. That’s enough to fuck anybody up for a lifetime. I can’t criticize him for how he acts on the road, especially because he’s a good person and a good husband and father.

I drove a cup car 4 laps at Daytona 156 mph and my adrenaline was through the roof, imagine your livelihood depended on your performance!

Toyota employs several friends of mine. They’re American as far as I’m concerned.

I’m always going to call him Cryle but he’s a really cool dude. Matured a lot and I have confidence in him being a major face of our sport
