Honestly, I’m happy that you’re doing all these succulent & cacti informational videos. I feel like this is such an important thing you’re doing it’s like documenting a world that not many people really outwardly talk about. And I’m glad that I can just give anyone your RUclips channel if they ever want to even just learn about cactuses! I enjoy & appreciate the work that you do!
You made a great point about humans always wanting to label things.. But please speak on the beginning of our modern obsession with how this hobby began.. I don’t think people talk about Sir Joseph Banks and his negative impact on society enough. I’m happy that you all are looking at trying to heal the issue of poaching and taking wildlife from the wild.. But a look historically will answer why we do this and will give us the answer to help solve and heal the issue of harming the wild..
Thank you so much for this comment, after I liked it I sat down and read about banks. holy hell! no suprise there. a rich (not of his own merits) white pro slavery colonizer. who likes to collect enslave and control. I will def talk about this. thank you for bringing it to my attention.
Another great video Hunter. That was a good chat and I am glad that you invited Stefan. He had recently posted on his Instagram about avocado plantations being cut into the landscape of Chile. Avocados that are mostly destined for the USA. Good stuff.
Hi Hunter, I think that i told you about the chilean guys from "hablando de cactus" if you want to hear about conservation from their perspective. Also there is a fantastic mexican cientific "Compadrino cactus" who talks a lot about conservation and suport to the local communities, in Mexico there are some nurseries manage by the own agrarian communities as the way to promote conservation of the plants and also conservation of the communities. Also in both channels talks about the origins of cacti cultivation in ther nation and how in some limit situations was necessary to collect plants, for example, to catalog species, to reproduce them ex situ or in case of devastation of habitats by some public work as roads and so on. Also they claim for support from universities and that the scientific groups leave their office an go to the rural areas to know the real situation of cacti and communities. Thanks for your work in this channel.
@@CactusQuest I have been seeing that Cactus quest sticker on Loma Alta for a while now and wondering what it was all about. Now I have finally made the connection.
The assumption that poachers are necessarily impoverished and native to the area that they are harvesting plants from seems misguided. Many of the dudleya poachers in California are from Korea , as I’m sure you guys know. Wherever there an aberration or not I can’t say
What a great conversation. Opened a new chapter in my cacti life haha. Thank you.
