I so respect your mention of a “Great Day in Harlem”…an iconic, *iconic* portrait of jazz history. & I also think of the children who sat on that curb on 126th St. Not knowing the enormity of this scene, they still gravitated to the masters around them. We, too, sit at those feet. 🙏🏽
It’s July 31st.9.00 pm ….. There is something special about this Concert…..It gives Hope to all musicians and All those who love JAZZ…lt was 1959 when I played Benny Golson’s tune Killer Joe in Barnstable Devon England. I play Whisper Not,now in my 90th.year.
I met Mister Golson more that 10 years ago in Europe. The sweetest man, and his lovely wife, Bobbi. He had his office in LA send me a special package of his latest cd and other memorabilia. Will never forget the long discussion I had with this legend.
Art Blakey, Lee Morgan, Bobby Timmons come to mind. Truly giants of the hard-bop scene in the mid/late 50’s and of course included….Benny Golson whom in those days turned the Jazz world upside down. And Benny is still going strong!! An other contemporary of Benny is Lou Donaldson, turning bloody 95 in November 2021! These incredible Jazz Giants are a national treasure! Apart from some sound problems this is a great live-gig! Dig/Enjoy folks. G’day & Cheers!
Emmet has always had the most stunning arrangements. Apart from his exceptional ability as a pianist, he has always had the ability to create arrangements on the fly. Taking nothing away from his superb Trio.
I had the pleasure of playing with Mr. Golson in a week-long workshop 10 years ago. He's just the sweetest guy, always encouraging young musicians, always telling stories.
Adding to my last post, yesterday was my birthday and what a great present this is to be able to listen to these great musicians. I have been a jazz fan for around 67 years and I can say that the future of our great music is in very safe hands. Thank you & mazel & baruchas to all of you
:: The only thing I see is love everywhere on that stage. In Benny Golson's speeches, his handshake after Emmet's solo, in the other musicians' eyes and their craft. ::
They should've boosted his mic volume! Sheesh. But you know, I'm not surprised if they weren't prepared. Cohen himself released a press release the day before the concert stating that Benny had "put down the horn" for good so he was only going to be telling his humorous stories that evening. Wow, it's nice to see he was out of it on that one. He can still do it! I spoke with him between sets at a small club once, and told him I played sax too -- a Buescher, not a Selmer. He was very enthusiastic, saying "I played a Boo-sher! It was my first horn!"
Sou CLEUMA GOULART. Sonzão!!! Que elegância, Russell! Emmet com novo visual!!!! Lindos !!!! O baterista convidado tira um som da batera, excelente!!! Paz e Bem! (RJ/Brasil/2021) Sou CLEUMA GOULART.
Just a frag more level, a better angle and smidge of reverb on Benny's SM57 wouldn't have hurt. Fabulous all the same. But it's all about the fantastic anecdotes and philosophies this night.
"...it is my contention, that if, everybody on the face of this earth , were jazz fans... we'd have no more wars" - Benny Golson, Giant in Music
"My wife says I talk too much... but she's not here" XD, Benny Golson
The last man alive with Sonny Rollins from "A Great Day in Harlem" photo. You must be so happy to have the chance to play with him

God bless you, George…you, too, are an inspiration and why this music lives. 🎼❤️ *Thank you* & keep swingin’, sir. 😚
Good for you, George. Keep swinging!
Rest In Power Mr Golson, such a unique artist he could do it all…
Absolutely love Russell's tone in this recording. Wish all records sounded like this!
WOW! 92 and still blowing! This man has composed some of my favorite tunes.
Better than CLB fo sho!

Don't forget McCoy Tyner, at about 48' in.
@@robertalbiston7822 You’re correct. Cheers!
Wow, Benny Golson; glad he's still around. Got to get to bed, but I hope when I awake I hear "Along Came Betty".
'I remember Clifford'. I've always loved this melody. I like even more now that I know the story behind it. Gotta learn to play it.
This is impossible in 2021 to have such great musicians playing SO tasty and with the right feeling. Gives hope and thank you...
54:05 nice to see Russell Hall being appreciated. Amazing player.
Blessed to meet this man twice, and shake his hand twice. I have his autograph on “Gone with Golson”. Hopefully someday soon a third time!

emmett doing a great ahmad jamal impression
The Chatzi Kaddish - yes, brother….the liturgy never sounded so good. Overwhelms my Sephardic soul.
the joy is universal 🌍💃🏽... ואמרו אמן
So glad these guys can be back playing live shows
This was in January 2020, the last concert I attended.
@@tomrichardson5433 oh, I thought was done recently

The bass runs at 3:58 are great!

How gentle he is… We owe you Benny😍
Brownie looking down at this and smiling….the best.
Very fond memories of Mr Golson at Ronnie Scott's Club , London. A great privilege for me to hear one of the greatest jazz musicians of all time
One of the last living jazz legends.
I am so full up ~ just burstin' open hearing so much beautiful ~ so much love ~ and all that jazz music ~ thank you
Emmet amazing playing especially on time on my hands!
I had the privilege to see Mr. Golson backed by Emmet's trio in Montreal, about 3 years ago. So happy to see that Mr. Golson is doing well.
Time on my hands - Ahmad forever!
Loved the music and the stories
Una gran pieza musical interpretada por grandes musicos del jazz
Amazing! Cant believe you all were here in GR!

Where’s Kyle? I miss seeing/hearing him. This is heavenly!
Wow what a beautiful beautiful moment of music, even shared through the little screen. Full of emotion and lightliness, thank you!

Great observation!
Greetings from Krazkhozia
Now on Dutch tv for the ..... time. The Terminal.
Love his stand up comedy thing
Sherman with flare and ascot! Classy top to bottom and so very tasty.
Cuando olvidas subir el volumen de Benny Golsom
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wish the audio quality could have been better for Benny's mic though
Commovente.
41:47 Lol
comes on at 23:43
И некому поднять стойку микрофона солисту…
great concert, but too bad for the sound recording of the sax.... This poor badly placed sm57 ...
I know. How sadistic under the circumstances. He's only 92, after all. It's not like he can make up for it by blowing the walls down.
Electrovoice EV20 would have done it.
