Screams on a Dark Autumn Night

  • As the seasons pass the streets of Edinburgh take on a suitably autumnal appearance. The leaves now gone transform the cobbled streets to a steady flow of amber. The lights dim and the dark nights draw near, awaiting the changing of the clocks.
The city streets pave the way to different locations, each with its own story to relay.
The Royal Botanic Gardens sits in the Inverleith area and without a doubt a treasured location. It’s marvellous winding paths and substantial trees form the basis for an incredible story.
In March 1966 Robert Ogilvie Campbell first encountered a representative from the world of nature (a faun) in Edinburgh’s Royal Botanical Gardens that led on to encounters with the mythical being known as Pan - the God of woodlands, countryside, and nature forces. Campbell felt it was important to the future of humanity that belief in the nature spirits and their god Pan is re-established. His work is recounted in the books ‘The Gentleman and the Faun’ and ‘The Occult Diaries of R. Ogilvie Crombie’ published some years later.
The story of the seventeen miniature coffins found beneath Arthur's Seat remains one of Edinburgh's strangest mysteries.
Ever since they were found hidden inside a cave on the north-east slopes of the hill by a group of schoolboys in 1836 they have had the people of the capital scratching their heads.
Inside each 95mm coffin was a little wooden figure, expertly carved and shaped, and wearing custom-made clothes which had been stitched especially for them.
Eight of the coffins survive to this day and remain on display in the National Museum of Scotland - the rest, it is believed, have crumbled to dust.
But where did they originally come from? And why were they found buried beneath Arthur's Seat? For almost 200 years academics, experts and professors have been looking into the mystery - so far with no luck.
Many people believe that there may be a link to notorious killers Burke and Hare, and the burials were designed to represent their 17 victims.
So, sit back and enjoy the autumnal weather, light the candles, dim the lights. But please dear listener listen for...
Screams on a dark autumn night.

A huge treat for this Edinburgh starved peasant. 😥Your vids are always a delight. A trio of goodies from Graeme. (Book looks a great read... ) I always have to watch the videos at least twice in case I've missed anything.
Great job, as always. Thank you! 👻
