    Six months on and I am still blown away any time I drag some clips from my Komodo onto my timeline. I was the same as you in that I came from Sony, was deliberating upgrading to the FX6, but the Komodo got me with it's image and colour. I can't quite put my finger on it but it's just a different breed, with as much flexibility as you could ever want, and like you said - actually inspires and motivates me to shoot more content which is exactly what a camera should do! Wicked content man, look forward to seeing more!

    I 1000% agree with you on all points. I shot a few fast paced gigs solo on the Komodo moving quickly from a 3200k room to a 4500k room and never changed WB. My exposure was all over the place too but got the footage in post and was able to fix everything just right. It's true, there is something about the image I just cant get out of my C70 or other mirrorless cams. Looks like a film right outta camera. What an amazing little beast!

      Glad to hear others think the same!
      The footage has some sauce to it and not having to think as much about getting the iso levels and WB perfect on set is a lot of pressure taken off for me! Love my c70 though

    Owning a RED camera, one thing people don’t talk about is the storage solution, u will need to buy a lot of fast portable disk for road trip, and back in the studio u need to setup your raid system which is also expensive. But the RED RAW is really convenient to shoot with and work with compared to many other “RAW” videos

  • @readytochop2462

    I’ve had mine for over two years and it’s been a 100% positive experience. I’m so happy with the quality (image, build, everything) that it’s made me stop switching and trying new systems like I had been from 2016-2020. I still love fuji, canon, Panasonic, and Sony cameras. We’re so lucky to have all these cameras recording raw and increasing DR/adding DGO.
    Red’s SOOC color science is such a headstart in post. FLUT and color temp flexibility has saved my ass. I’d actually consider this a good cam for people with LESS experience nailing their image. If you mess these things up on other cams, it’s not forgiving.
    And let’s not ignore the huge firmware update. I just tested ELQ yesterday and it’s looking very good. Goodbye Prores haha.

  • @christianjadot4459
    @christianjadot4459 Год назад +1

    It really is the Global Shutter + the RAW that makes the difference, and makes it just feel more "organic" than most other cameras on the market. I just started looking for a used Digital Bolex right before RED announced the Komodo. (Which has a similar look, but just HD)
    For me, I would not trade my Komodo for even a higher end RED or even an Alexa. That GS is like the secret sauce ... even if it is not apparently obvious, people can tell.
    Look at sample footage from a Digital Bolex or an A-Cam DII, they all have a similar feel.

    Any kind of RAW is great, even uncompressed is ok if you can record directly to a hard drive (like with BM or the Sigma FP)

      I personally wouldn’t choose either if you’re upgrading from the a7iii especially for those types of work!
      I would get two a7siii’s used and invest in glass and better rigging solutions or get two s5ii’s and save a TON of money!
      The 4d is huge all the time. I’d completely forget about the gimmicky flex system and the Komodo needs to be rigged and the AF is not good for weddings and super run n gun scenarios like the ones you mentioned :)

    @danialsharghi249 Год назад

    I don’t See much difference between Red raw and other raw codecs, you can get any look with Color grading raw codec , the reason why red Komodo looks much different than FX6 is because the Komodo is Cine Camera, at least that’s what I think ( I only own BMPCC 4K 😂 )

    • @AnthonyRodriguezz
      @AnthonyRodriguezz  Год назад +1

      Hey Daniel! Appreciate the feedback!
      I disagree on the codec comment though. Working with Red raw files feels like I’m editing raw photos, other “fake” raw codecs feels like I’m editing complex JPEG images. Ofcourse any skilled colorist can get the “look” they are going for though, you’re right about that! But there’s definitely a difference between true compressed raw and other replicated “raw” codecs.
      Regarding the Cine camera comment, the fx6 is also a cinema camera, so that unfortunately, could not be the reason why the Komodo looks so different. It’s mainly a combination of the color science, 16 bit color depth, dynamic range and gamma curve of the raw profile. There’s a lot more to it though! I’m no scientist 😂

    Nice video, I just wanted to ask, how are you finding the combo of the wooden camera top plate attached to the top of the red outrigger handle?

    • @AnthonyRodriguezz
      @AnthonyRodriguezz  Год назад +1

      The mechanism works really well and fits super secure. The handle can be slid front to back, which is clutch for balancing a rig.
      Finding the right tension of the knob in conjugation with the outrigger is a little tricky but once you find it, it’s good to go!
      The ONLY thing I don’t like, which might lead me to sell it one day, is the actual wooden camera top handle. It has sharp edges and that alone puts tension on certain fingers, especially with the middle bracket in between… I wish they would’ve rounded it all out. That would make the handle near perfect.

    How would you compare it to the Canon R5C? it can do 8K and also spits out RAW 8K 12 bit footage. Btw, I hate RED, with what happened and the fiasco of the Hydrogen One.. I feel sorry for the people who bought it full price in advance, waited years and then got a horrible phone (I bought it for $350 because I'm into stereoscopic video, original backers paid $1300!! which is why I also got into the Canon R5C, for it's dual fisheye VR lens). Also, their cameras and specifically all the auxiliary gear is WAY overpriced.

    • @AnthonyRodriguezz
      @AnthonyRodriguezz  Год назад +1

      I mean hating a whole company based off of one thing might be a little excessive BUT I do agree with ya on the proprietary RED “stuff”
      Regarding comparing it to the r5c, they are COMPLETELY different cameras for different purposes! The IQ quality from the Komodo is MUCH more complex, in a good way, compared to the R5C.
      The R5C is a an excellent camera with a beautiful image and very big drawbacks imo.

      @worldscalephotography Год назад

      @@AnthonyRodriguezz the forum they made for the backers was full of RED supporters and they took the whole situation like a gaslighted wife in a domestic situation (many were RED users from before that), saying that 'it's not RED fault it's the chinese company that made it!', something that the head of RED said too (he was active in this forum, it was his 'baby'). Then they stopped the whole program after promising a Hydrogen Two, he left the company and that was it. Like a good ol chinese start up, not a multi million company that charges 50K minimum for some cameras and $1000 for a sticker.
      They should have refunded all the backers who actually paid 'full price' for the only mobile that got exteremely low ratings in all the major channels. Btw, it was all a scam, I had many 3D phones, some were WAY BETTER than this one, in terms of 3D effect and resolution, just didn't have the camera to create content. They didn't call it 3D, they called it 'holographic' or some other shit, because they create two 'intermediate pespectives' between the left only and right only images, but in reality that's what it was, the effect is the same.

    • @worldscalephotography
