I’ve had mine for over two years and it’s been a 100% positive experience. I’m so happy with the quality (image, build, everything) that it’s made me stop switching and trying new systems like I had been from 2016-2020. I still love fuji, canon, Panasonic, and Sony cameras. We’re so lucky to have all these cameras recording raw and increasing DR/adding DGO. Red’s SOOC color science is such a headstart in post. FLUT and color temp flexibility has saved my ass. And let’s not ignore the huge firmware update. I just tested ELQ yesterday and it’s looking very good. Goodbye Prores haha.
It really is the Global Shutter + the RAW that makes the difference, and makes it just feel more "organic" than most other cameras on the market. I just started looking for a used Digital Bolex right before RED announced the Komodo. (Which has a similar look, but just HD) For me, I would not trade my Komodo for even a higher end RED or even an Alexa. That GS is like the secret sauce ... even if it is not apparently obvious, people can tell. Look at sample footage from a Digital Bolex or an A-Cam DII, they all have a similar feel.
So excited to see Nikon fighting reds fraudulent and immoral patent on raw recording. If they win and the patent gets overturned we’ll have so much better cameras as red won’t be single-handedly be holding the industry back.
