The reason why you find that the ND3's intake sound is a bit more aggressive and sportier is because Mazda has opened up an extra hole in the airbox and modified the sound tube to give the car a sportier intake sound.

As a new (to me) ND2 owner, I am so glad they continue to get the formula more and more correct! And by far one of the most underrated improvements is how quickly that improved infotainment loads up the backup camera when you shift into reverse 😂

Same here! Although old infotainment can be improved upon with some 3rd party tweaks.
It also saddens me, that in EU, it seems that Mazda is dropping the 2.0 litre for the ND3.

If you love to drive, the MX-5 is a must have once in your life just for the fact that no one else makes a real roadster any more. Sure, there are other two seaters, there are even crazy two seaters like the atom, but if you want a real roadster you can live with it every day, easy to maintain, and not heavy on your pockets, this is the real deal and a real joy to drive.

I just have to again reiterate how insane it is for Mazda to successfully bring a sub-2400lb car to market in 2024. The ND is the antidote to a lot of the Enshittening that's happening in the auto industry today.

    • @ag4allgood
      @ag4allgood 27 дней назад +1

A completely different design philosophy where weight is the enemy. The ND was designed to take every little bit of weight away after the NC had gotten away from the design. My 2016 Club soft top weighs 2340 pounds. Incredibly light which is felt every time you climb inside of it. Mazda engineers went back after the NC to add lightness in the ND. ND3 gained a few pounds but nothing drastic.

    • @lensoprezole5322

Don't ever do an extended test drive in one unless your ready to Buy one. Speaking from my experience. Late Saturday at the local Mazda dealership a short test drive but really on the fence. Had to drive home to get the checkbook & on the drive back to the dealer came off the fence. Let the Sales Manager know how I felt. So he said to leave my trade in there in the parking lot & threw back the keys to a 2016 MX-5 Club soft top. He told me to come back after work Monday & decide what I wanted to do. That Saturday night after leaving the dealer I could not get out of the drivers seat. Got home at 11:00 pm. Sunday it was about another 140 miles of driving. So after work Monday the checkbook along with my trade in sealed the deal. The sales Manager knew what he was doing. 7+ years ago 1st week of March 2017.

What a great review, and it is a joy to watch a couple of pure car enthusiasts enjoying a simple and honest sports car.
One minor suggestion: if you have a Miata press car for a week, is it possible to get a mild-performance alignment for the POV test drive? A sports car like this one where the improvements from prior facelift is measured in a couple percentage points difference, a proper alignment would add credibility to the impressions shared behind the wheel. Keep everything else as they come including tires.
Again, just a suggestion. Keep the awesome content coming!

I have an MX-5 automatic with panels and love it. However, I previously had a 2020 in soul red with the saddle color interior, which I adored. Right before I was about to purchase it off lease, we hit a car running a red light (with no insurance, of course), and it was totaled. When I went to replace the vehicle, the soul red car had a black-and-red interior - very tacky and hot here in Florida. So I purchased the car in Opulescent Pearl (I think) with a pumpkin interior. That I’m alive and well from that accident should be enough, and I am appreciative of that. But I REALLY loved that soul red car.
I just want to mention - in the event you haven’t gotten to page 400 of the manual - especially if you, your significant other, or any kids who ride with you are short like me, DO NOT SIT ON ANY PILLOW to raise you up so you can see out the window. The seat belt regulates the passenger seat airbag and SOMEHOW it can tell that it’s not a butt on the seat and the airbag won’t work. And if you don’t heed my warning, don’t hit someone with no insurance as he’s running a red light in his BMW.

Have you heard from others about the durability of the Recaro seats versus the leather seats in the GT? Which ones seem to do better over the long-term?

Just traded in my 2019 Camaro SS 1LE with the 2SS package for a 2024 MX-5 Club. Talk about extremes of the spectrum. The Miata is wonderful but still somewhat sad about the Camaro. It was an incredible car with a lot more amenities than the Miata and punched way above it's weight at the track. However the insurance was getting to the point of being aggravating. The Miata is satisfying in a different way. Wish I could have kept both but that would have been impractical.

As the owner of a 2019 ND2, I have very few gripes with the car, and can see and hear the changes even in the video. They've definitely dialed the car in better as this generation is reaching the end of its run. On center steering looks more precise and an interesting observation is that it looks like downshifts into the lowest gears look effortless here too. These cars famously have to be muscled into 2nd gear with a solid pull from 3rd when decelerating and the revs are high, which isn't the end of the world considering all the transmission problems they had on the ND1.
Same thing with shifting into first from neutral, the first two gears are always fighting back when you try to engage them, like they won't engage into the shift gate. I don't know if that's due to a synchro problem, a clutch issue, a bad linkage, or whatever else but I've never beat on my transmission and my car has less than 20,000 miles. On the other hand, the downshifts in this video from 3rd to 2nd, 2nd to 1st, and neutral to 1st all look effortless, it slides into each gate and snaps in place like a rifle bolt. 👍
I also have a full racing header and exhaust, so I'm familiar with how it sounds on an aftermarket exhaust, and the factory exhaust here definitely has a bit more of an attitude than in prior years. Could just be the recording quality, but I don't think it's just my imagination that they may have done something to give it a raspier sound that's closer in spirit to an aftermarket sound.
One of the big nitpicks I've had even after years of ownership I haven't been able to isolate rattles behind the seats. It's not the top, it's not the latch, and it happens whether it's up or down. It's like something is loose in the cheap plastic trim somewhere around the glovebox or the cowling around the top. I hope Mazda is learning to button down the interior trim better on these cars better by now; they still add little strips of foam to trim pieces as an improvised band aid fix, but they've gotten a lot better at NVH tuning on all their other models, just not the MX-5. And being a roadster isn't some kind of excuse, this isn't a road noise issue or complaining about being in a roadster, it's an issue of interior materials and construction not being sorted as well as they should be.
Don't know how much that's changed with ND3 (if at all) but adding some real insulation behind the cheaper plastic trim is not going to completely ruin the handling of this car, so "weight savings" isn't an excuse at this point. In fact, it'll make the car feel even more polished and upmarket which is clearly a quality they want it to have now.

I’ve had that same exact issue sometimes with 2nd where it goes into gear like 75% of the way but won’t go in fully unless I go to neutral and come back in. No grinding but it feels like it hits a wall. I guess it’s just the nature of the trans?

I'm selling my 2023 ND2 as soon as an ND3 Manual Grand Touring in Soul Crystal Red is available in my area. Owned both ND1 and ND2 and have loved everything but the infotainment systems. On a recent drive through SoCal canyons the system got stuck in a repeating restart loop every 10 min. This is after I already removed the SD card and had the dealership flash the system because it would take more than 3 min for any music to play on Carplay or Android Auto, if it connected at all. Parked in a scenic area and let the car rest completely off for 30 min and it still wouldn't work right. Miraculously, it returned to normal right when I was about to drive to get it checked out a couple days later. It's still slow though. Hoping for better with the new infotainment. Wireless Android Auto would be nice too.

With lowering springs and a little negative camber, it gets rid of all the snap oversteer on an ND2. Mine now just rotates predictably and very smoothly, even when it was on worn out OEM tires.
I wouldn’t want it to oversteer less with the current setup…I only have -1.2 front and -1 rear. Stock was downright scary though….it was like trying to reel in a jack knifing trailer.
I’m willing to bet the ND3 would still be plenty playful with a few tweaks. Sway bars would cover it. I wonder if they changed the spring rate or damping on the new cars…
I bet with an alignment and the new diff you could get some serious cornering speed though. Seems like it’s smoother on putting down power.
