- We speak with Eddie Howe ahead of our post-season trip to Australia.
The lads will fly to Melbourne on Sunday following our final Premier League fixture of the season against Brentford to take on Tottenham Hotspur and the A-League All Stars!

I moved from Newcastle to the US as a nine year and have followed NUFC since I was five. If anything, it's one piece of my British roots I've held onto most closely. I flew down to Atlanta for the Newcastle-Chelsea pre-season game (my first NUFC match in 20 years) and even had a chance to meet the squad at a fan event the day before the match. I came away with two things; 1) we have the loveliest group of players/manager a fan base could ever ask for, they could not have been more engaging or happy to interact with the fans. 2) these international trips are so important for fans around the world and for the club to continue to grow it's profile in new markets. HWTL!

I have been a NUFC supporter since 1992 and I have never before had the opportunity to watch my team in person. I can't count how many times I have been awake until, or woke up at 5am to listen to games on the radio or watch games on the television. In the early 2000's I used to listen to the games via Internet radio and type commentary (in real-time) onto one of the NUFC supporter forums for other fans (who couldn't even get the radio stream). I purchased my tickets to the two NUFC games, here in Melbourne, within minutes of them being available on pre-release. I can not contrive words to describe how excited I am to finally see my team in person!

We are going to Australia, Japan and potentially Germany for pre season as well as reportedly holding the Sela cup at St James’. Fixture congestion don’t stop 😅

Australia is a post-season trip. Germany so far appears to be more of a training camp at Adidas HQ (but may include a friendly). 2 games in Japan, possibly 1 in Germany plus the Sela Cup isn't a lot of pre-season games. 5, compared to 7 last year. That't not fixture congestion.

Poor Eddie. I’m sure he’d prefer to let his lads rest. The major issue for this season has been injuries and the subsequent fatigue that’s it’s caused to the players picking up the slack caused by these absences. Because of how fatigue works (in an elite sports context) rest and staged recovery is vital. Eddie is towing the party line here but I think if he was honest…….. he’d be on holiday (not that he’s ever really on holiday. Even if he wanted to stop being toon boss , being an elite manager you just can’t these days. It’s 24(7, 365 job).
Many Aussies are Man Yoo and Liverpool fans and obviously Spurs now. We have a few but not like the teams above.
I wonder if they’ll ever have a preseason in Canada

Given the number of injuries we’ve had, this isn’t the best decision we’ve ever made. All for £3m. I get commercial reasons but most players have the Euros and most players need rest and recuperation before the new season.

@@ianjackson8043 Pope, Wilson, Gordon, Dubravka, Trippier and Schar are all possible I think. Just seems pointless flying all over the world when we could rest.
