Hi Hank, I started out as a tractor mechanic in 1970 in Australia, no problem with freezing conditions so we always filled tyres with plain water and I don't remember ever having a rim rust out. I'd be sure to check the owners manual or maybe with the tractor manufacturer with regard to how much water to put in the tyre, filling completely with water may overload the axle and void the warranty, I can't remember every filling more than 50%.
Great tips Hank! 👍 Another option that's available for ballast is wheel weights , I prefer to use those because of the "sloshing effect" I've experienced with water/chloride solution. Water has the tendency to continue moving in the direction its going after it has stopped that forward momentum..and weights are excellent for colder climates because obviously there's nothing to freeze.
I down loaded a copy of my owners manual, never gets dirty, and I can't loose it. Check your front axle oil, my kubota was down over a quart, I guess it is common with the kubota's.
Hey Mr. Hank! My dad did the same thing on lawnmower, or zero turn. We buy, fix, and sell. Many people don't believe it at first, then we make them see and believe it, lol and I'm from Louisiana, so we use water as well for the tires. I understand it's heavy, but great bite on ground whenever you need it, lol. God bless!
Good stuff Hank! The owners manual is key to keeping the tractor in top shape (IMO). Lug nuts and loader frame bolts are almost always loose during the first "break-in period" and seems to be ignored by most. Take care!
I can’t wait to go back to Europe and save up to buy a tractor. I’m starting to develop depression because of not being able to buy one because it’s so fascinating for me 😞 life is not fair in my country.
Hank, I use the pink RV antifreeze for my rear wheels & tires on my Cub Cadets and John Deere tractors. There are application charts available online that shows how much ballast is required per the tire size to get an idea of how much ballast or water that you need to purchase. That calcium chloride has a nasty tendency to find any small cuts that you may have. The salt brine that we used to pre-treat the road surface is pretty close to the same thing as what’s used for the tractor tires and will absolutely destroy the leather in your boots or leather gloves.
Great information Hank. Thanks for sharing. I think there is more water in one of my rear tires than the other, cause when I try to lift something real heavy with the bucket, one tire comes off the ground.💛
First time I drove a tractor with water ballast I wondered what was going on, gave the effect of a gentle earthquake when I came to a stop, after a while I got used to it. Good tips there bro, most males check their nuts so that bit is a given. Safe travels
My dealer added the ballast so I stayed dry and their shop marked the lug bolts and the loader to frame bolts so I know they missed nothing. I think they will be a good dealer
i'm a mechanic, spend all my time trying to keep water out of airlines + tyres, destroys the pressure sensors, so if you got fancy tyre pressure monitoring on any of your vehicles, keep well away from that airline !!! [it rots out the little inbuilt battery] elvis has left the video....
Just one question from a newbie, after filling with water, you said add air. Do you fill it to the pressure on the tire or is it different since you added water/beet juice, etc?? Love your information!!! I'm in FL too, middle of it, but wanting to buy a tractor in the future.
Those TYM Tractors are awesome. I’m especially impressed with the cabs and the human factor engineering they put in them. Everything is so operator friendly.
@@HamiltonvilleFarm You are blowing my mind. I have 100 questions. Is beet juice over abundant in your area? I had to Google it because I don't believe I have noticed beet juice on the shelves of Safeway supermarket, but alas they do carry it. Walmart sells it for $60 for 6- 32oz jars. How do you pressurize the juice to fit into the tire? Why beet juice? Is it low on acid? Do you grow beets on your farm? I have to research this. Thanks for your videos!🤯
Hank if you are wanting a load of people subscribing, do the pictures like Mike Morgan did on his channel an he got overwhelming response. If you was to put up one that said, show me your wife running a tractor... My girlfriend gave me a handful of pictures of her running her tractor in a bikini was a handful of them and she showed too much skin so I told her no. Girls like equipment and they get yancy before spring for sure.
May God bless you bless your wonderful family rest all your friends and may God give you the wisdom to do your job and tell everybody that Jesus loves them God bless you and your wife in Jesus name forever and ever for your wonderful family

Oh man mine sloshes bad. But waters free\cheap...
You can put tubes in the tire and then put water in there that's what we do.
Yeah that’s a good idea too

There is technically a pressure gauge that is made for filled tires. I just add air until it looks right.
Lots of good tips.
Hank, What are your thoughts about freezing. Florida is one thing, how about Pa.
I wouldn’t use water. That’s for sure. I’d find out what some of the big dealers are telling their customers and go with that
Thanks for the great video Hank thanks again
