The 3406B Cat was the sweetest engine I ever operated and clean running too, my only complaint was mine didn't have a jake. Got inspected by BC Canada Air Care and the inspector could not believe how clean the exhaust was. He had me floor it a second time so he could watch my foot on the throttle. He said it was the cleanest engine he had seen that day. Late 90s at the Alex Fraser Bridge scale
I love the sound of the big diesels when they crank up. Wiley must have a magic wand to find all these Freightliners, KW's, Peterbilt's etc. It is great to see them reconditioned and back on the road. 🙂🚜🐻 Bear Queensland Oztralia

Hey Hank & Wiley, you are correct, that is a 3406B motor, the last ones with the mechanical injector pump, I couldn't see if the forward rear end was in, you could have slipped the axle shafts in......be safe!!! God Bless!!
3406C have manual pumps too... 3406E is electronic
You Guy's are amazing Hank, I told you Guy's before I wish l had the smarts you Guy's have, you Guy's are the best! I would have loved to been there to smell that baby fire up! I love it Guy's. Hank my wife and l moved here from the Adirondacks 4 years a go and it is a different cold here, we get cold when it's 49 out. We live right here in the panhandle also, good job Guy's, keep em coming and l will be here to watch, God bless you Guy's!

Some of the best tractors I ever drove had Kitty Cats in them nice to see this one start up an maybe have another life. Cat made tractors at one time never drove one but they sure looked nice.
The power divider is a differential within a differential so to speak, unlocked it can spin a tire on the front axle or the rear.
Locked it will spin a tire on the front and rear axle.
Then you can lock the diffs for all four corners.

I saw that axle sticking out of the hub not too far into the video, and I wasn't sure it would move, but that's nice. I really like Wiley, he comes up with some real good stuff, I'm glad you bring him along. You might want to talk to Rich from DeBoss Garage, he is a very good Diesel mechanic, and may know of someone who needs that Cat engine.
You have to do a “Roll that coal” hat and t. Maybe Wiley says roll that coal. Great video. Hope you can find an old Euclid site truck or a Terex Titan….go big or go home 😀

This old stuff rock solid. It will always run if it doesnt have internal damage. Get a 2022 one put it aside and try crank it after 10 years it wont run. Tons of stupid sensors computers and cheap material. Even on brand new one single 5 dollars stupid sensor dies and you are at the side of the road. Another good video Hank.

You are exactly right its a 3406b model. Best motors out there
How tandem truck diffs work (theres actually 3). As it is, normal driving, its fully open. Drive goes in the front and to whatever wheel, the one with the least traction, the most planted (driveline torque) or a bit to all of them depending on what youre doing and conditions. When you lock in the power divider (the 3rd diff) it will send drive to one wheel on each axle but each axle will be open, so power will go to the wheel with the least traction on each diff. If it has crosslocks, with those engaged it will send power to every wheel and if its slippery you might have a hard time steering it as it will just want to push straight ahead.
Has that truck got a wet kit?
Its weird to have just the axles out on the front diff, it must be faulty or need a seal, bearing or brakes or some such that never happened. If it had been towed it would have had the rear axles out too or the tailshaft.

Drove a 91 Freightshaker FLD had a 4 1/4 CAT /15SPD wasnt much i couldnt pass between Gainesville Ga and Miami and up to Richmond Va ....wish i still had that truck......she rollin smoke like she got some juice turned to her .... pullsfrom rear drive until the power divider in the front is locked in then both pull

Excellent video Hank :) & Wiley :) also that driveshaft discovered axle back front daul wheel on right side pull and in dash should have switch say differential lock on or off it chrome color slides left to right too! Also Hank :) & Wiley :) when check engine oil surprises you say making Millesaas or Big Strong Coffee without milk or cream and no sugar! But smell burn say it makes coal or deisel fuel running rich ! My dad one farm Tractor 1978 International 724 B 72 hp Desiel motor 265 Cubic Inches Detroit Double Displacement 4 cylider ran rich on Dip Stick engine oil after fully rebuilt! But what happened was no water in fuel or rebuilt engine screw up and no dirt fuel tank or 2 filters ! It was slobbering around injectors plus return line rubber hoses what cause that Fuel Injection Pump screw up and got fully rebuilt plus new steal lines and rubber hose plus fuel filters too! After fix change Engine Oil plus Oil filter too plus bleeding fuel injectors back square one ! But fuel injection pump screw up on low RPM 750 to 1500 was smoke out motor plus exhaust manifold like Liquid Coal and Blue smoke worst then wood stove chimney does when wet burn to! But 1550 to Top high idle 2250 RPM was was clearer and less smoke! But got Fuel Injection Pump and fuel system fix ran like brand new motor with less hours ! Hank take your Weather Forecast over my Weather Forecast Winter Season months is ! You need drink a bit Wiskey straight to warm up in outdoor weather Lol and won't be freezing cold then Lol! Or my late daddy used say get hair on head plus face plus cheast to keep warm Lol for Winter Season months!

Hey Hank you had a block between the back passenger side tires btw
Wiley normally you pull buy the back diff often the passenger side does the most when you lock in the pdl it locks the front
That would make for a resto build, can't see it hanging around long.

The rear diff has the power all the time. When you lock the power divider then the front drive gets power!! Or all get power but locked it forces both diffs to spin add the same speed instead of open diff style. It's like having 3 open diffs till you lock the power divider

yes hes correct a is a short pump b is long e is computerized and electonic injection however b blocks arent so rare b an a blocks were widely produced e block though were limited(b block is slightly rare now a block was the most produced)

The rear drivers is the main driver when you kick the power divider in then the front driver will drive to

Just to let you guys know. The driveline goes through the front diff. With a through shaft and it runs on the rear diff. Then when you shift in the power divider it shifts a gear in the front diff and connects it to the drive line.

Yep. The power divider is a differential that splits the power between the two drive axles. You can jack up any one of the four drive Wheels and the truck will not move. Locking the power divider bypasses that interaxle differential and locks that thru shaft to the drive shaft.
Go back and look between the truck tire there's a brick between the tires it stopping it from going forward...👍👍👍👍👍
