You don’t have to break the set screw if you can’t pick it…there are two bypasses that actuate the cam. One uses a wire inserted into the key way, another uses a small hook slid up beside the bolt to grab the actuator. Bosnian Bill and LPL have both shown these bypasses in detail.
Mike you are an awesome teacher - I love your videos, so detailed, informative, and packed with anecdotal wisdom. I'm starting an encore career as a self employed locksmith and these are the absolute best teaching videos I have found in countless hours of searching RUclips. You are an inspiration. Many thanks and please keep making these excellent videos.
I've been a Tool and Die maker all my life and would never use a hole gage to find the right tap drill size. They make charts to find the correct tap drill size.
good practice for steel tapping is 360+ turn back and forward after doing the starting 90 degree turn in turn out, as well as full removal of the tap to clean the shavings every 1/8 or harder steels 1/16 to prevent bindings and breakage. this is coming for a mechanic's pov. awesome videos dude keep it up p.s. the key to tapping is plum and slow/precise! grease and friction are a problem red or marine are best marine being best for tapping to prevent oxidation.
now you refer to a metal door, sheet metal likely... where is there any thickness to run a tap into ? machine screws are not made for sheet metal doors, unless there are specific reinforcing inserts of sufficient thickness for machine fastener threads sufficient purchase or rotational surface, at least you covered yourself with the correct way to do it with sex bolts.
There's 1 major key to tapping and rethreading. Proper lubrication (use actual tap lube). For tapping new holes, you need a proper taper tap. Don't use a plug tap or bottoming tap. You will have a much greater chance of breaking the tap if you don't uee a taper tap. Don't be afraid to use a tap guide, either. Between the tap guide, and using a taper tap with proper tap lube, you will essentially never have to worry about breaking the tap. Also make sure you clear your chips as you are tapping! That is the second major killer of taps, next to not getting the tap started straight!
Great video I am working my way in the lock smithing world and all these tid bits are great steppingstones thank you for the lamen terms😁💪what does it take to become a licensed locksmith??
