12:30 That Lady Is A Keeper!! ...on a less serious note, it is indeed refreshing to see the involvement you both have in this project, it was apparent when you first started the bike on another video she was working the camera (that counts bigtime IMO) capturing the excitement and happiness which seems a mutual experience. If she knows the information of that bike enough to order you a surprise part she is paying attention to the project on a level of genuine interest,...so when you are sharing this project on here, to me that is something nice to find with these videos, the element of support. That bike came out amazing....an incredible transformation and the best running cost description with the graphics and detailed dialogue I have ever seen in a rebuild video. My interest and subscription to your channel is based on my recent ownership of a MINT unused (literally started only to jet the carb for a pro-circuit platinum pipe) unridden, never touched dirt, 2004 KX250 M1.
This rare find of a bike sat for 17 years brand new, yet, having obtained the KX 250 a few months ago it thinking maybe it should remain a display for posterity, that is something I cannot bring myself to do.
This bike must have a life!!
There is no way I can leave the bike unused,..it is in my blood,...it is in my brain,...the 2 stroke diehard in me is going to put this bike on the track.
That being the case, it would be best to have the ability to put in fresh seals and bearings because it sat so long....so you can see where your videos come in very useful to me.
That is unchartered territory for me as far as degraded parts quality from decades of non-use, and I feel it is worth switching certain parts out even though they have "zero hours" on them. Tires? Great, but the tubes,..those are getting switched out.
What I see happening is possibly taking off all the original cosmetics and putting all aftermarket on from the get go,...so if I ever do a rebuild to keep or sell, it can have the original unscathed parts, like the original unstarted stock pipe, tires cosmetics etc.
You have me convinced into seriously looking for an ELECTRON carb,....so in the way I am proceeding ahead, THIS video,...and many of your other videos are important for what I need to see and know. I may some day make a low budget rebuild using all the original stuff based on the inspiration of seeing your video production here,...
Certain things you did in your videos, like the demystifying of the transmission you imparted in a video, GREAT STUFF!!!,...greatly presented. THANK YOU,....both of you.

This video is awesome - it adds up! I just completed a 2000 KX250. Did a bunch of at home cerakote and gave the bike the full treatment. New bearing throughout, re-plated cylinder (US CHROME), new OEM piston and rings, FMF exhaust (full) with Boyesen Carbon fiber reeds, rejetted, new Black rims with cerakoted OEM hubs. All told I was $3200 in as I got the bike from a friend who had it sitting in his barn for 8 years! Your build and this cost video are awesome. Gives a really good idea of what it takes. Not to mention all the bikes came with a ton of extras the wanted to dump with the deals I made. Including a brand new Hinson clutch basket I found in one box of parts! Wiscoe piston, w/ bearing $157, bored .020 over by Ison racing $257, acorn nuts $12, radiator cap $7 from auto zone. Tires, pirelli radial, $137 each, Seat cover $59, all ufo plastics kit was biggest cost about $800. For every plastic minus tank. Odi waffle grip $13. @@GregHitchko Definitely a massive loss for a garage build here in Canada. Took $8000 Just to restore a 1999 cr80. There are no oem parts warehouses here in canada like partszilla, revzilla, rocky mt, motosport ect. Only option is right from the dealer for for the rip off prices, which are almost always discontinued :(

If it cost $6,000 new adjusted for inflation to 2021 it would cost $8,225 today. So you saved about $2,000. And a lot of the parts are probably better than it had new.

It's the nostalgia in it all my man to build one of these older two strokes. It definitely costs more if you don't know how to work on the motor and suspension yourself. I did all of the work so that saved thousands.

@@GregHitchko I'm not sure if someone does all the work their self saves "thousands" of dollars, but it certainly helps the overall cost. But the majority of us simply dont know how to do it all. Seems buying a new two stroke not only gets you a brand new bike , but one without working a countless number of hours, and dealing with the suprise expenses . But different strokes , wallets etc. too.

@@kirbylee57 Very true man! If a shop were to do all of this work at $100 an hour, which seems to be the standard rate, the labor cost adds up fast. All depends on your end goal and what you want out of it. Building a bike from the ground up, you're right, is not for everyone!
