Funny thing is that the Doctor didn't tell the Prometheus EMH to do anything but press "Fire", so it's technically his fault for telling him to fire it without telling him to aim the torpedo at a target first.

More common, yes. They weren't coming out of mushroom spacedocks like spores. They're still high-maintenance. Escorting a larger asset is more in line with their original intent. Originally a prototype for a fleet, not just a class. Defiant was effective, apparently, on screen in everything from minelayer to battleship. A) suspension of belief, to keep the plot moving forward. B) it's a prototype NX-##### , other vessels (and perhaps this one, after it's tested) may have safeties installed. C) while logical, Starfleet vessels attack each fairly regularly. The Maquis used Starfleet vessels, others might take similar measures negating the point.

if you watch the episode there's only about a dozen romulans. even if all of them where on the bridge, 2 people with weapons of that level could probably clear the bridge in a few shots.
Romulans are my favorite species but I always felt this episode should have had the Dominion stealing the ship. It was a perfect opportunity for a crossover episode! sigh....
+Jon Luna Not really... as the Romulans is not involve in the Dominion war as mention, it's perfectly reasonable for them to take advantage to steal some tech in the confusion of war since they became a lesser focus as oppose to the enemy the federation is engaging in open warfare.
***** About right... the Romulans only join the rest of the against the Dominion during the later stage of the war... which is season 7, before that, they were "neutral".
Voyager's EMH arrived on the Prometheus on Stardate 51462 (June 18th) in 2374, and whereas the Dominion War was 2373 - 2375, the Romulans joined the Federation Alliance on Stardate 51721.3 (September 21st) in 2374 shortly after Senator Vreenak was assassinated.
... ok HOW?! they are BOTH in a Wide Shot along side the Akira class when they first appear. you practically need to be Blind not to notice two Defiant Class Ships Practically Zooming Past the Screen
@@oldtwinsna8347 why can't it be both... technically Voyager and DS9 were separate productions and they stay in their own lane for their assigned materials
A lot of people giving shit to this ship, but the overall design and technology are quite decent. The ship basically has two drone ships, each one with their own shields and weapons, this can cause target saturation, where the enemy can't concentrate on one ship, spreading out it's firepower among them all, and should the enemy concentrate on one ship, it can move back out of range and have the enemy change targets then re-engage. With the limited AI it was able to engage and defeat romulan warships. It did show flaws, such as predictable attack patterns and obviously the main section is the control for the other two drone ships whenever there is insufficient personnel, as well as we can assume that separating then will decrease the shielding they each have (but this is somewhat mitigated by the regen shielding). The biggest flaw in all of this however is the creators of the ship, the Federation. Their peace like mindedness holds the ship back, as it was clearly shown, with medical AI the ship was able to deploy and attack successfully, but even then it required patterns that can be exploited by the enemy, having a more war oriented mind, specially one with the "art of war" in mind would make this ship far deadlier, specially if depeployed in force, and would allow for a cheaper ship, as it wouldn't need med bay, mess hall, or even life support, along many other things biological entities need. There is no perfect ship, but for hit and run tactics where numbers and firepower is key, this ship fits the bill very well.
I'd simply like to add, that in Star Trek Online? This ship can nearly compete with a cruiser, like Galaxy class, but split into three and you become something like like Defiant. In the end, this ship can't defeat a full-fledged cruiser, or defeat a full-fledged escort (like Defiant)....but it can be either at any given time, and that gives it a power very few ships ever had
It would have been great if Starfleet chose to send Tric(EMH Mark 2, it's what they call him in the novel Star Trek: Prometheus) to Voyager along with the Doctor. Why, just imagine the madness that these two EMHs would get up to? 😆😆😆
Nope, seriously so much of their tech is underused. Picard literally used a holographic submachine gun to kill the Borg simply by disabling the safety of the holograms allowing them to cause damage. Another time, one of the officers managed to turn his com badge into a personal shield to block attacks. None of these show themselves later.
Amazing in a “how could this drug addicted maniac be allowed anywhere near civilized society after what he enabled Phil Hartman’s wife to get high on cocaine again, leading her to kill her beloved character actor husband just as his Star was really starting to rise” sort of way or amazing in an “Oh My GEEERD it’s Andy Dick, I love his comedy acts and his politics because I’ve literally *NEVER* looked into what anyone who knows him personally has said about his self-destructing private life” sort of way?
Okay, I'm sorry, but Starfleet needs to fire whoever is in charge of programming their ships, because a simple IFF would be absurdly easy to add, and that would be enough to prevent stuff like the Prometheus attacking a Nebula-class.
It would also stop the nebula class attacking the stolen Prometheus... And prevent Voyager from stopping the Equinox that was murdering its way through the Delta quadrant. And prevent the Lakota from intercepting the Defiant that they thought was commandeered by changelings. And prevent the Enterprise-D from hunting down the Phoenix that was murdering its way through Cardassian space and about to start a war. And prevent the Excelsior going after the stolen Enterprise Seems like it would do more harm than good.
@@Slavir_Nabru I mean, the thing is, we know that starfleet in the 2260s already had command codes which could override shields and presumably weapons and other systems, had they kept such a system in place, with authorization from whichever admirals, it would allow such encounters to be even easier. Other than the Voyager vs Equinox, but I'm sure Torres could disable an IFF system.

I don't care what anyone says about Voyager, the Doctor is the best character in any Star Trek series, and this was far and away the best Star Trek episode ever. Although, I'm a bit confused as to why you forgot the best exchange in the episode; "Stop breathing down my neck!" "My breathing is merely a simulation." "So is my neck, stop it anyway!"
I love how 4 phaser blasts takes out a Nebular class starship. "But wait because he split into 3 parts... it made the phasers more powerful....????" Then again 3 phaser blasts + a defiant assist = a dead Romulan Warbird lol. Who needs photon torpedoes LOL!
Unless I'm mistaken I think the guy that played the lead Romulan hijacker of the Prometheus was the same one who played the Romulan scientist Telek R'Mor from when Voyager discovered that microwormhole with a temporal displacement....edit: I am mistaken....Telek R'Mor was played by Vaughn Armstrong and Rekar, the lead Romulan hijacker was played by Judson Scott...guess all Romulans look alike to me LOL :-P
So the phasers are off-line, with no one on board to repair them. Yet with the Prometheus separates it is firing its phasers. Plot holes or automatic/holographic repair systems?
The one thing I've always found strange about that episode, is the doctor Mark II is the computer program of the ship. Granted he may have been a medical program but he should be able to know how to fire phasers after all the crew was dead. He should be able to intergrate himself into other parts of the computer since he is the part of the ship being a hologram. I I guess we are supposed to overlook that fact
+Carroll Ware Keep in mind to that the Doctor EMH Mk1 has been online WAAAYYYYY longer than any EMH was designed. Hes had time to learn things outside his programming like his opera and photography. The experimental Mk2 isnt a finished product and essentially a new born babe.
Lovely ship design. I wish Paramount would go back to this style of Star Trek. Oh well, at least we have The Orville. It's the closest thing to the Star Trek episodes I grew up with.
How about some torpedoes, coupled with phaser dimpling and transporting Starfleet Marines onboard, Bonchune? You have 128 marines and a shotload of torpedoes.
Well it would have to be altered in the case of AI surgeons anyway, since any form of internal surgery 'harms' the patient simply getting to the affected area.
threenumbnuts Yes. Altered, as I said. The oath, as written, states *harm*. To a (presumably) logical AI, cutting somebody open to perform surgery is 'harm', regardless of whether it will ultimately help the subject.
Thought that at first, but there is a simple explanation. The hologram had not targeted anything. Unlike a torpedo, which you can just chuck straight out of the tube and let it target the first thing it locks on, with a phaser, you have to aim it *somewhere*.
Love how Andy Dick and Robert Picardo are hamming it up with their scenes. Also if the phasers are offline how did they work after the auto separation sequence?
Phasers probably auto engage on MVAM activation, sort of like how Red Alert has automated routines above and beyond the lights and alarms. It is an assault mode after all.
"They must think Romulans are on board!" "THEY'RE RIGHT!!" What perfect comedic timing by Robert Picardo

C) while logical, Starfleet vessels attack each fairly regularly. The Maquis used Starfleet vessels, others might take similar measures negating the point.
Have you forgotten the Romulans had it? Systems been compromised because of them?
It’s possible the computer auto targets an attacking vessel regardless of flag. Are you forgetting that nebula shot at the Prometheus first?
If only the ship had Captcha enabled none of this could have happened! /s
Fairly convinced the reason that torpedo hit a Defiant and not the other Starfleet vessel was just friendly rivarly between Voyager and DS9
Voyager was jealous that they were 2nd rate to DS9 in every way possible.
I love the doc.
It is one of my favorite episodes of Voyager.
EMH mk2 shows incredible shooting skill by missing a 1km warbird and hitting a 190m defiant.(ding)
+Richard Van Aken He's doctor dammit, not a tactical officer!
Richard Van Aken "You hit the wrong ship!"
you maybe forgot that a photontorpedoe needs a certain distance of traveling before the targeting system and warhead are armed the defiant whas in the wrong place at the wrong time
To be fair, all he did was launch the torpedo blindly without actually locking it. I'm surprised the torpedo didn't just travel in a straight line.
Maybe the Romulans had the photon torpedoes preprogrammed to target federation starships.
They're holograms, why do they care if it gets bumpy?
+Anh Triệu I have always thought the same thing.
Well if Doc gets bumped hard in that 'addition to my program' he made, it could be rather painful.
Star Trek never really thematized it, but they're effectly self-concious AIs.
oxmys Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Lol
Just because they can't be hurt doesn't mean they like getting thrown around
"Okay so we beam onto the bridge, right? We beam in, phasers at the ready expecting romulans everywhere, and there's nobody there except two starfleet officers who turned out to be holograms. One of them, clearly an EMH, was wearing the old uniform. And it turns out that it was from the lost starship Voyager!"
*"They must think Romulans are on board!"*
*"THEY'RE RIGHT!!!"*
As the Romulans are the only life signs that would register.
@@Someonehahaha *Nothing gets past you, does it?*
@@ReverendSyn of course not. I am too quick and will catch it.
I love the two Defiants.
_"Tough little ships"_
One of the best episodes. Picardo is great here.
That one defiant class was going in with the Prometheus class like, "ok so we're doing this "
A ship full with Romulans. They sent in 2 people.
if you watch the episode there's only about a dozen romulans. even if all of them where on the bridge, 2 people with weapons of that level could probably clear the bridge in a few shots.
They knew that the Prometheus has been retaken, because why would they fire on their own ships ?
the prometheus looks alot like acturis's ship, the one that can quantum slip stream.
nunya biznez thank you
@Ganda Gandara they did hold out against the borg for centuries. so they must be strong
I agree
***** About right... the Romulans only join the rest of the against the Dominion during the later stage of the war... which is season 7, before that, they were "neutral".
Voyager's EMH arrived on the Prometheus on Stardate 51462 (June 18th) in 2374, and whereas the Dominion War was 2373 - 2375, the Romulans joined the Federation Alliance on Stardate 51721.3 (September 21st) in 2374 shortly after Senator Vreenak was assassinated.
It's a FAAAAAKKKKKKEEEEE!
Dat ending
Security officers are like : oh there just holograms.
yeah like OH SHOOT< drop yer weapons, they got HYPO SPRAYS
@ 3:20. Fucking Defiant n00b killstealing
when literal holograms have to 'brace for turbulence"
Starfleet wasn’t playing, they sent 2 Defiant class and an Akira class ship , orders retrieve the prototype the vessel Prometheus if not destroy it.
I don't know why I never noticed there were 2 Defiant class ships coming to the rescue... damn that's good continuity
... ok HOW?! they are BOTH in a Wide Shot along side the Akira class when they first appear. you practically need to be Blind not to notice two Defiant Class Ships Practically Zooming Past the Screen
Or just saving money by using the existing models.
Overpowered silliness.
Love Ekhartsladder's take on it... "This is the most deviantart, self insert fan fiction spaceship ever designed"
Been saying this a while now...
These ships should break into multiple sections, defend crew compartment section and flank ability
"Attack pattern, mmm... alpha?" LOL
Akira-class tanking like a boss.
This video made my day
It would have been great if Starfleet chose to send Tric(EMH Mark 2, it's what they call him in the novel Star Trek: Prometheus) to Voyager along with the Doctor. Why, just imagine the madness that these two EMHs would get up to?
😆😆😆
If I were to ever captain a ship in the Trek Verse, it’d be a Prometheus class.
At 2:32 when the Andy Dick EMH pushes the button on the console the whole panel bends, big production error.
funniest moment of that scene for me
The absolute best episode of Voyager. Such comedy gold.
Nice design but I would prefer it if the multi vector assault mode was a dual split as it looks silly with a singular tiny nacelle on the third split.
Ok so after this the federation made holographic defense programs for their ships right?
Nope, seriously so much of their tech is underused. Picard literally used a holographic submachine gun to kill the Borg simply by disabling the safety of the holograms allowing them to cause damage. Another time, one of the officers managed to turn his com badge into a personal shield to block attacks. None of these show themselves later.
+HellsRaven4444 Lord Vader would never have let this technology go to waste lol
Or put a killswitch under the captains chair to prevent hostile take-over?
Would it not be easier just to wait until the ship is fully manned before taking it on a rundown cruise near the Romulan Neutral Zone?
made the ECH EMERGENCY COMMAND HOLoGRAM
Voyagers funniest episode!!!😂😂
The fact Andy Dick was in an episode of Star Trek is so amazing
Amazing in a “how could this drug addicted maniac be allowed anywhere near civilized society after what he enabled Phil Hartman’s wife to get high on cocaine again, leading her to kill her beloved character actor husband just as his Star was really starting to rise” sort of way or amazing in an “Oh My GEEERD it’s Andy Dick, I love his comedy acts and his politics because I’ve literally *NEVER* looked into what anyone who knows him personally has said about his self-destructing private life” sort of way?
@@Popcultureguy3000
He was funny in this and that's literally all I care to know about him.
Good thing the computer knows the difference between Star Fleet ships and Romulan's lol
And prevent the Excelsior going after the stolen Enterprise
Seems like it would do more harm than good.
Subordinate: Commander, my I speak freely?Commander: I'll permit itSubordinate: we have a ship and a means to go where we please. There is no need to take this Prometheus back to RomulusCommander: ah but they task me--wait--why does this sound familiar
One of my favourite episodes
Andy Dick really nailed that role right on the head.
Were the starfleet personnel carrying disruptor rifles? Seem to me they were some MAC-SOG kind of military group, LOL
Phaser rifles.
I don't care what anyone says about Voyager, the Doctor is the best character in any Star Trek series, and this was far and away the best Star Trek episode ever. Although, I'm a bit confused as to why you forgot the best exchange in the episode;
"Stop breathing down my neck!"
"My breathing is merely a simulation."
"So is my neck, stop it anyway!"
Defiant Classes: YAY, I HELPED!
From all Starfleet Ships I love this the most. It's sexy.
imagine a whole fleet of Prometheus-class ships in the Dominion War.....Dominion's ass would've been grass xD
I love how 4 phaser blasts takes out a Nebular class starship. "But wait because he split into 3 parts... it made the phasers more powerful....????" Then again 3 phaser blasts + a defiant assist = a dead Romulan Warbird lol. Who needs photon torpedoes LOL!
thoses holograms could become op and create a plot hole in the franchise.
Unless I'm mistaken I think the guy that played the lead Romulan hijacker of the Prometheus was the same one who played the Romulan scientist Telek R'Mor from when Voyager discovered that microwormhole with a temporal displacement....edit: I am mistaken....Telek R'Mor was played by Vaughn Armstrong and Rekar, the lead Romulan hijacker was played by Judson Scott...guess all Romulans look alike to me LOL :-P
prometheus should have been a new series
Whoever came up with the concept of the Prometheus should be shot with a ball of their own shit.
@@halwakka504 r u d e
I'd pay a lot to see these two in more episodes together.
I still think this ship, is "all that, and a bag of (micro)chips!"
So the phasers are off-line, with no one on board to repair them. Yet with the Prometheus separates it is firing its phasers. Plot holes or automatic/holographic repair systems?
It sounds like Andes back in the movie. In the army now haha!
idk man attack pattern alpha is a pretty good skill in star trek online :P
The one thing I've always found strange about that episode, is the doctor Mark II is the computer program of the ship. Granted he may have been a medical program but he should be able to know how to fire phasers after all the crew was dead. He should be able to intergrate himself into other parts of the computer since he is the part of the ship being a hologram. I I guess we are supposed to overlook that fact
Carroll Ware Just like MSpaint on your computer is also your internet browser.
Experiential Prototype!
+wookieman He just forgot that the mark II isn't epic like voyagers doctor, it never had to be developed to fill multiple roles.
+Carroll Ware
Keep in mind to that the Doctor EMH Mk1 has been online WAAAYYYYY longer than any EMH was designed. Hes had time to learn things outside his programming like his opera and photography. The experimental Mk2 isnt a finished product and essentially a new born babe.
+Jon Luna hi
Lovely ship design. I wish Paramount would go back to this style of Star Trek. Oh well, at least we have The Orville. It's the closest thing to the Star Trek episodes I grew up with.
2:30 that's one strong hologram
How about some torpedoes, coupled with phaser dimpling and transporting Starfleet Marines onboard, Bonchune? You have 128 marines and a shotload of torpedoes.
1:45 "Who is this? What's your operating number?"
We're fine, we're all fine here now, how are you?
2:18 there are so many controls, lol
3:24 Welp. So much for the "And I shall do no Harm" of the hippocratic oath D:
Well it would have to be altered in the case of AI surgeons anyway, since any form of internal surgery 'harms' the patient simply getting to the affected area.
No, that's covered by the reasoning that the harm of cutting through the patient is outweighed by the benefit of the surgery.
threenumbnuts Yes. Altered, as I said. The oath, as written, states *harm*. To a (presumably) logical AI, cutting somebody open to perform surgery is 'harm', regardless of whether it will ultimately help the subject.
"It says here the phasers are offline!"
60 Seconds Later: Fires phasers whilst in Multi Vector Assault Mode...
Generally when Star Trek says "Offline" they mean "Switched off".
Thought that at first, but there is a simple explanation. The hologram had not targeted anything. Unlike a torpedo, which you can just chuck straight out of the tube and let it target the first thing it locks on, with a phaser, you have to aim it *somewhere*.
@@Debbiebabe69 That's a fair point.
Voyager? Errors? Say it ain’t so.
www.nitcentral.com/oddsends/voystat2.htm
Lol they hit the Defiant with a torpedo, take that Benjamin Sisko!
actually it was a defiant-class starship, but I enjoyed your joke nevertheless
Love how Andy Dick and Robert Picardo are hamming it up with their scenes. Also if the phasers are offline how did they work after the auto separation sequence?
Phasers probably auto engage on MVAM activation, sort of like how Red Alert has automated routines above and beyond the lights and alarms. It is an assault mode after all.
