  • After watching "Star Trek: First Contact" I wanted (ofcourse) to hear full version of "Magic Carpet Ride"...best watching the flight of Phoenix with it. After shuffling through few pages of related movies I've realized there's no movie that could satisfy me
Yep...so i decided to do it by myself :)
    Hope You'll enjoy it!
    All thanks to:

Without You this world would be a much worse place!
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
I wanted to assign this video to Creative Commons but it was denied because of material used in it, so i write it here:
Sound and picture were taken from web pages where material is freely accessible. "Steppenwolf - Magic Carpet Ride" is in unchanged form from beggining to the end (as oryginal as I could get it). "Star Trek: First Contact" frames (and a bit of sound) were matched to imitate music video clip, or something like that. As You can clearly see on handshake flash (that I hope is not too lame by the way) I didn't even use any professional tool...just MS Movie Maker...and I'm proud of it ;) . "cgrimm did it" stands only for cutting and putting together someone else's material for which I don't claim any rights. Therefore it is understandable that from my side no one will get any problems after sharing, remaking or whatever You want to do with this movie. I have a great hope that Paramount Pictures and holders of rights to Steppenwolf's work will feel the same way and will let us enjoy this tiny part of their great work. I hope You'll just add advertisements or something but please don't block this video...one way or another all material is Yours and I don't get any profit from it...I've made it and shared it only for the creeps :)
"Don't try to be a great man, just be a man. And let history make its own judgments"
    All good to all
    CGrimm
    P.S.
Sorry in advance for not responding for any comments. As You probably know we have to change our RUclips account names for this from Goolge...and it pisses me off like hell! I won't do that as long as it'll be possible ;)
If there's any need to reach me just add Your e-mail address to Your comment and I'll reply...or write me directly: cgrimm@wp.pl.

I really think he should have said "Let's rock and roll baby!!!" because that would have been more in line to what someone around the Steppenwolf time frame generation would have said.

I still think they did Cochrane dirty. His portrayal in the pocket novel Federation was much better, and tied in well with Encounter at Farpoint, where Q mentioned they used to control soldiers with drugs (they show that time period in the book). It portrayed him as a dedicated scientist and good man who nonetheless had a tragic life.

The main concern being that they appear to have launched straight up, which would cause them to burn up on re-entry (If you play KSP, install the Alcubierre Drive from Roverdude and try launching straight up to 900km.). However, they could have done a series of short warp jumps to change their orbit.

mlee2001 You forget what the word "astro-naut" really is.
the suffix "naut" is a greek word. for all intents and purposes, naut is used to define an explorer. a pioneer. a frontiersman. and still very much means that today. an "aqua-naut" is an explorer of the seas, oceans, and other bodiesof water. a "Geo-naut" could be used for someone exploring the depths of a planet. A "helio-naut"might one day be used for someone who dives into a star (assuming we ever develop technology for that) to study how it works on the inside.
      An explorer of stars (directly)
And, of course, the more commonly used "astro-naut" meaning one who explores Outer Space.
I believe the most famous ancient example comes from "Jason and the Argonauts". The Argonauts were explorers berthed out of the ancient city of Argos. They explored the Meditteranean.
Im sure other cities had such explorers too.
      The "Athenauts" perhaps.
but yeah. by definition, Starfleet is an organization of Astronauts. perfectly legitimate word for them.

This is by far the best version of this rocket ship launch scene. And for me it is the best version of any scene in Any of the Star Trek movies, and that's saying something. This is just my opinion but I think you should put more rock songs to lots of the Star Trek TV show and movie special scenes. Starting with the paradise syndrome TV show episode, one of my favorites. Even if you don't ever get around to doing that suggestion I thank you for this great video, that I watch a lot. Thank you!

I guess I'm too much of a realist.
Launching a chemical engine rocket that close to a crowd of people would have killed them all. Also how did they land the ship? Why didn't the Vulcans detect the Enterprise in orbit around the planet?
And in the Fast and Furious series,... How many times have they stopped for gas?

I love this. I kinda think the handshake ending here should’ve been the ending of the film with further lead out with the song into titles. Last time an ending on a handshake happened in a movie in such an iconic way was in Georgio Moroder’s adaptation (music, etc) of METROPOLIS when Freder got Joh and Grot to shake hands with Bonnie Tyler’s “Here’s My Heart” leading out. Both scenes just finish out with the handshake and while we don’t know what happened to them but we have a good feeling things turned out okay.

Kinda funny how they thought we would have CD's in 2063. TOS showed us tech that was yet to come but TNG says we have achieved all we can and CD's are here to stay. The perfect CD is shaped like a stop sign and no one will ever do better. When I hear a song from the late 60s early 70s I just turn it off. They were big on gibberish that made no sense unless you were high. I would go with Fuel by Metallica if I were to go faster than light. I would be spattered all over the inside without the Chinese scientists George W kicked out of NASA that were up to 5% mass reduction but it would be fun while it lasted. I just wish the world would work together and tell us how close we really are. I just think all this stuff should be made public because children can think science, math, art and still have imagination. The people NASA hires have had to work and toil in the screwed up world so the imagination is lost. The greatest asset is not taken seriously until they are beaten down and forced to live in a 1 room apartment. Instead of asking AI to build the perfect bomb they should ask AI to find all of the Einstein's in schools throughout our country.

not many people know this, but shortly after this is where the alternate STOS universe was born. Since Cochrane knew of the Borg, he had a choice to make. Reveal the reality of the Borg or keep quiet. He couldn't decide, so he flipped a coin... and the universe split. In one he kept the secret, in one he revealed it. (not my idea, it was in a Star Trek novel).

I find it curious that this movie came out in 1996 and in 2011 the Boeing Starliner rocket was tested. The Boeing Starline looks an awful lot like the rocket in Star Trek: First Contact. Did Star Trek, once again, inspire the Starliner?

Such a classic scene! I like others felt pure goosebumps when I saw it. Really adds so much depth to the whole Star Trek franchise. I truly hope like others have said, that they recall this scene and blast the hell out of this song as they achieve “warp drive”.
