Because Pollack's impression comes from LOVE of the character and the actor . For me , James Kirk is , easily , in myTOP 5 , in Pop Culture/fictional characters , across ALL media , including Literature , Movies , TV , comic books , etc. THAT'S a lot of characters ! A lot of FANTASTIC characters ! But if I had to choose , among all these "characters ", if I had to pick just 5 , ULTIMATE HEROES , there would be a place for Kirk ! Would just HAVE TO BE , right ? Now. I was very sad when I heard of the actors who portrayed other champions , like McCoy , Scotty and the much beloved , Mr. Spock had passed , but I know I will WEEP for Shatner, just as I wept at the death of Kirk , falling , at last , while selflessly fighting for and saving others . As he always had .
I couldn't help it , the character symbolized THAT MUCH to me.
So , we are laughing with him , not at him , so to speak ...Shatner. of course , NOT Kirk . Remeber this video in your subconscious...and you will see bits revealed as you re-watch TOS and think "aha. thats what that dude was talking about ! Sorry , I went off on a tangent ,there ! Lol. "JUST" wanted ya to know I'm true Kirk fan and wouldn't be laughing at him , Shatner really , maliciously . Just another way to enjoy the character/actor . Cheers !
No one else laughs, but that little detail with his hand at 3:52 gets me every time.
I don't know ANY impersonator {impressionist? mimic?} better than Kevin Pollack. His Christopher Walken and Columbo impersonations are spot on.
& Kevin Pollack's is so going to be remembered 4 this one act... for sure..
Great impression of my favorite show when I was growing up
I remember when this originally aired. Glad to see it's made its way to RUclips!
Cool
I never get tired of listening to Kevin. This one and him doing Alan Arkin are my favorites.
Made me laugh out loud.
Someone identified "Brian" at the end as Brian Boitano, the figure skater. I guess it refers to a previous skit he did before this clip.
That is correct .... the skit's punchline doesn't allow the skit to stand alone.
Correct. If memory serves (it's been ages), Pollak talks about how he was raised and the expectation that sports were supposed to be testosterone-fueled events; so, it was "just plain strange" that the effeminate-sounding Boitano would win the first USA gold of that Olympics.
By Shatner's own admission, "John Belushi does me very well, as does Jim Carrey, but NO ONE does a better Shatner...than Pollack."
Kevin pollak is a brilliant entertainer, who possesses pure raw talent beyond the Stars 🖖
Awesome Mr. Pollak you are so talented, thank you for all the laughs!!
1. robin williams
2. christopher lloyd
3. jack nicholson
4. dudley moore
am i right?
..and cute girl with big glasses ..i see you there baby :P
Looks right to me.... dunno about Dudley Moore, but the first 3 definately
Matt Robinson Yes, Dudley Moore being the original drunkard "Arthur".
I'd say #2 is specifically Lloyd as Reverend Jim Ignatowsk from Taxi.
2 sounded to me like Sid Cesar.
you are a complete fool
I remember this from waaay back... Kevin, you still crack me up! Brilliant!
One of the best if not the best Star Trek bits I’ve ever seen.
Their personalities... their personaaaalities
I wonder if he realized Christopher Lloyd was in Star Trek III playing the Klingon Captian. He did it so well, I didn't realize it was him until I saw it the third time.
I told people for years that Kevin Pollack did a routine about enjoying Search for Spock right up until Kruge began to speak English, because then all he could hear was Rev. Jim from Taxi. I searched for it a few times, never could find it... for good reason. It wasn't Pollack, it was Maurice LaMarche. I stumbled onto it last year and was so chagrined I actually messaged "Mo" on Facebook to apologize for miscrediting his bit to Pollack.
In my opinion his best impression is Jim from the show Taxi his voice is spot on. Never heard anyone else do a better impression of him or Doc Brown from back to the future.
