  • In this episode, I have the Lauten Audio LS-208 in the Audio Hotline Studio! This is a front-address Large Diaphragm CONDENSER microphone. This mic has a lot to offer when it comes to features, sound, and accessories. I don't want to spoil anything, but I will say this is an exciting microphone, mainly due to its versatility. Much like the SE Dynacater, this has a couple low-pass and high-pass filter switches. These filters really change the microphone's character, and it makes it so you can get several different mic tones with one singular mic. I test the different filters in this video, and the chances are that you will at least like one of the filter settings, if not multiple... or all!!!!
    In addition to having quite a few in/on microphone features, this also comes with some very nice accessories. THIS COMES WITH A LEGIT FLIGHT CASE... Yeah, I REALLY nice case. It comes with a windscreen, a hard mount, a shock mount... it has you covered!
    If you can't tell, I am excited about this mic! As mentioned before, I test this mic out and tell you all of the basics and specs, but I also do include a blind comparison...
    Now, I am not going to tell you ALL of the mics included, but here is a list of some of the mics that are in the comparison:
    Electro-Voice RE20
    Shure SM7b
    SE Dynacaster DCM8
    and of course, the Lauten Audio LS-208
    There are timestamps if you want to jump around to the comparison or other parts of the video!
    If you are considering buying this product or any product in this video, be sure to check out the testing and audio samples and see if this is right for you! Every person has different expectations of audio gear. If the features are what you need, and you like the sound, then it is right for you!
    Thanks for watching the Audio Hotline! I'll see you Audio Nerds next time!

    This was such a great review and thank you so much for the kind words, Bronson. Since you're so thorough, we'd like to request a downloadable extended version of the purr test, multitracked with varying filter settings at 24/192 and mixed in Atmos, please and thank you 😁

      If Earthworks can reduce their price of their Ethos from $700 to $400, so can you guys. Wish the mic is a little better though, bigger capsule for smoother sound. Would love to see a Signature version of this with 38mm capsule but sound signature of the Clarion. Or forward mode of the Atlantis. Though I really like the gentle mode, it just doesn't cut through mix very well. And wish it. comes with a triple built in pop filter like the Neumann KMS105.

      Yeah I have mics in this price range and 3 times this price. Returns at these price points are seriously diminishing. I would love to buy this mic, but at 600$, it's just a bit too high. At $400 it would be an instant buy for me.

    Lauten just came out of nowhere for me and this comparison was fantastic!
    What a GREAT comparison and review!
    THANK YOU too for not using the term "Shoot Out" in your title! If I have to see that term used once more I think I will personally "SHOOT OUT" my eyes!
    I basically want one more mic for my podcast and voice work and since I already have my trusty RE20 for my Dynamic solution and it really hugs my deeper raspier vocal tones,....I have been looking for a Condenser mic to serve as my other "go to" when the situation demands AND just when I feel like it! I was sold on the Stellar X2 Vintage but now really wondering if the LS-208 can do all that I need and more. Yes,...it's basically twice the money but I'm OK with spending a bit more to get a forever mic. I'm NOT a mic collector and have resisted the urge to get caught up in that so I really try and do the research BEFORE investing in these things. I wish Lauten had a Summer sale! LOL. Anyway,...I will see how the Stellar X2 Vintage sounds with my voice if I can locate a YT Review that has a person with a similar tone. Otherwise,..this LS-208 has really piqued my interest!!!

    Every review I've seen of this mic has been really positive. Is it on its way to becoming the next "high end mic at a midrange price" value king?

    ASMRIST? Your B roll is the shizzle. Definitely goals man.
    Being that its a passive rolloff, its probably a -6db/oct rolloff which is really musical and pleasant sounding. Kind of cool that companies are starting to put LPFs on mics... that was never a "thing". I hate when companies put < and > on their specs... like >150 ohms... does that mean 500 ohms or like 151ohms? Such a cop out, and thats kinda important when you're paring the mic with a pre. That 8k mode showed where its useful, on the distorted guitar. Everything else was like blanket land. Great review, and feel better man! Killed it!

    You're the first reviewer, I have seen, who mentions how phallic this microphone looks. In my opinion it is even more phallic, than the Rode Procaster. Besides that, it seems to be a good mic.😂

    If this mic was $400, to cut cost, remove the shock mount(optional) and the hard case, this mic may become more attainable and very popular. However, if they can reduce the price overall and keep all the goodies, it would be a no brainer. I really want to try this but already have the SM7B and RE20, almost no reason to have it as just a casual user, but I’ll be inclined to buy at at 400z

    Do you need a clean gain booster with this microphone such as a cloudlifter?

    • @AudioHotline
      @AudioHotline  Год назад +1

      Since this is a condenser mic, a Cloudlifter/mic activator wouldn’t work with it. With this being a condenser, it requires a lot less gain than any dynamic mics. So even if you could use a mic activator with this, you wouldn’t need to.

      Yeah, EQ definitely has a lot to do with the way a mic sounds. To really do a max potential comparison, you would have to EQ match the microphones.

    Would you really be critical with a mic that you get to test for free? I don't think so...

    • @AudioHotline
      @AudioHotline  11 дней назад

      Just saw this. I can’t tell you how many time I’ve been critical with a product I was sent. The products are anything but “free.” I put a ton of work into my reviews and probably make a dollar an hour 🤣
      Not all of my reviews are products that were sent to me, but off the top of my head I was VERY critical of the Behringer Vintage series… and it was sent to me.
