Secondly, the living armour would be more similar to mussels or oysters than calamari. Cant wait to see people making their own versions of these meals! I saw one person make a look-alike of the sorbet with gem candies and it looked soooo mouth-watering.
i would argue with the assertion that mimic isn’t filling. visually it resembles hermit crab and crab is straight up mostly protein. that stuff fills you up Fast, three to four crab legs would probably be enough even if you spent a lot of energy, and those mimic legs look Huge
Since the jewel bug crown was a hive full of eggs that needed to be scooped out, I think you can actually get the same taste and texture from honeycomb! This explains why the jewel bugs were part of the sorbet making process - jewel bug hives are sweet!
I'm SO glad you addressed how mouthwatering Senshi's bread looked. Every time my friends and I watch this show, we wish it was real. It looks like milk bread, too, so it's probably EXTRA soft and fluffy!
Apparently frog legs do actually taste a lot like chicken. Never had it myself so I can't confirm, but they're fairly common in the swampy bits of the southern US. (have had gator though, which does taste a lot like chicken! Just ever so slightly fishy with the texture of very dark meat chicken)
In Singapore, Frog Leg Porridge is pretty common! You're right to say it tastes a lot like chicken. It's like you've shrunken Chicken Drumlets into mini-sized versions of it. I used to be disgusted by the idea until my dad encouraged me to try it. Much to my surprise, now I just think of it as another version of chicken porridge :>
Can confirm the chicken-like quality of frog legs. It’s definitely a different texture but the flavor is similar. I’d say they’re more rubbery than chicken, or just chewier? Very tasty though. Loved eating them as a kid.
Dragon steak would probably taste bad, especially considering the way it was killed and how mature it was…thats some really tough, gamey, stress hormone filled meat right there. :/ It may be very nutritious though, and it’s enough meat to feed a whole town for months. It would probably be really good in a pot roast!
@@dartoney you know what, i have had gator, but I didn't even consider the fact it's lizard meat. The red, tough meat on the show is nothing like any gator I've eaten. That being said, maybe dragon is good fried? (as a southener what isnt)

I do have to wonder if perhaps using an adolescent would give it a texture closer to other reptiles? Particularly I can see it being at least adjacent to crocodile or alligator in the right conditions to keep it relatively tender, though I also wouldn’t be surprised if it is just naturally tough and gamey given it’s from a massive land based predator. Much to think about 🤔

I feel like with the Undine stew with tentacles, the tentacles would have cooked down, creating a whole different flavor profile than if it was eaten raw. Sorta like if you cook garlic, it enhances the flavor of garlic but dies down the bitter taste to it compared to haven eaten it raw.
The parasitic worms look like eel meat are cooked like how the Japanese prepare eel (unagi). A fantasy version of unagi without the bones is worth any danger.
Im pretty certain that parasite was supposed to be some kind of lamprey. Lampreys lack a ribcage and only have a skull and spine. Irl there are parasitic lampreys but they latch onto their hosts from the outside, there isnt any internal lamprey species to my knowledge.
Myyyyy goodness! Never in my life have I ever wanted to eat a snacky meal this colourful. Just, look at those treasure bugs! I like bugs, and the fact that those ones are actually edible makes me really want to eat them. I’m sooo going for the treasure bug meals including the sorbet (though it very much resembles colourful ice-cream that looks like that a lot of flavours are packed into it, complete with jewellery that, when placed with the sorbet, looks very much like candy in the shape of jewellery). Besides that, I would really eat a feast of kelpie meat which I think it would be better with a side of fresh bread. This is a really good video on looking at the Dungeon’s meshi and I certainly can’t wait to see part two. I love the anime too!
Some insight: 1) fruit tart is actually more like a quiche than a pizza 2) mandrake kikiage is extremely similar to indian pakora, which you’re right can be finicky to cook but is amazing done well 3) parasite mirrors eel meat here
I can imagine the treasure bugs taste a lot like crawdads and the creamy parts would have the texture of lobster roe. They'd probably taste really good steamed or boiled and with some butter.
Speaking from personal experience frog tastes a lot better than chicken and has a very different texture. So if giant frogs tastes like there smaller counterparts I'd say that it's a 10/10.
Personally imagined the mandrake as being somewhat starchy like a potato, just with a more herbal bitterness to it, so tbh the kakiage gave me the impression of a potato pancake 🤤 IDK what bat tastes like, but the giant bats don't resemble insectivorous bats, but fruit bats. The floor they live on also has an ample amount fruit from carnivorous plants, so I'm guessing it could taste similar to fruit bats irl.
3:55 I’d say the fruit tart seems to resemble more of a quiche, a sort of savoury custard tart. Presumably it’s simply referred to as “fruit tart” because “quiche” doesn’t translate well to Japanese and back.
Something I noticed and really appreciate is what different dishes get made depending on who seems to be in charge? Laios seemingly has led two dishes, those being the barley with seafood (basically porridge) and the "fish and chips" style dish from later. And both seem much simpler and homier to him (presumably European) as opposed to Senshi's more complex tastes, etc
About the Golum meal if you create the Golum core it is subserviant to you as such it would actually be easyer to farm then normal as it takes care of itself and would be docile to you as the golem smith
The treasure bugs are up there for me, especially just the straight fried ones. The way Chilchuck was scarfing them down was incredibly appealing. I think after that I’d go with the dragon meat.
The Treasure Bugsnax, Sorbet, Glazed Parasitic Worm, grilled Kelpie, Tentacle Pasta, Cutlets and the Red Dragon Full Course Meal needs to be in my MOUTH
The scorpion hot pot looks appealing. It is the first dish to start the series with easy to find ingredients. It doesn't much complex like other dish. Just simple yet delicious. It should be in the S tier instead
My RUclips recommendations come in two flavors: Dungeon Meshi and Genshin Impact. Hearing the Port Ormos theme during the Red Dragon Full Course Meal crossed my wires in a way I was not expecting, but it was very cool.
Should've said you were a picky eater in the beginning. Its obvious based on what you've rated each dish and you're commentary on what makes a dish good. Also, the parasitic worm was suppose to be similar to eel. Eel is my favorite meat and taste exactly how the parasite was described, can't believe it was in D tier.
I mean, the parasite shouldn't be more questionable than any other meat (arguably less so due to it's more controlled environment). It's nowhere near the right size/species to infect a human so Laios getting a second-order parasite from it is more down to really, really bad luck (/rule of funny).
11:21 you’re not the only one, when i was younger i used to take the charms of shoelaces and jewelry and just put it in my mouth during class so i could pay attention
If you want a more orange egg for visual variety, duck eggs might be the way you want to go. The freshly stewed vegetables from the Golem gardens is a tried and tested method. Pull them out of the water when done cooking, get better, and substitute a superior protein, and you'll have a great meal. Corned Beef is a particularly choice protein. And if you add grass fed Irish butter? MMMMM I can't say I've had good experiences with crab legs, but they were cheap buffet fare, so.... Also, lobster used to be easy to screw up and considered peasant food. Then superior cooking techniques for the sea roaches proliferated during WWII when cheap mass food was needed. And then Lobsters suffered a massive population dip and because food for the more well off. The Kelpy grilling seems a bit plain and underexplained for people who aren't experienced. Also maybe slightly overcooked. But in principle, grilling that many tasty looking cuts of meat has me hungry. The Undine Stew is quite possibly the second most creative meal in the first half after the living armor. Just... the idea that you take a water spirit and make it the base for your stew to restore mana is just brilliant. The Red Dragon pizza and steak is potentially the most tantalizing for the allure of dragon meat. Like, that is a feast available only for grand conquerors of dungeons or the most elite who can afford to hire said conquerors. The tail also looks nicely fatty, though I'd rather sear that instead of putting it in a soup.
the parasite is a parable to grilled bbq eel which is very popular in Japan, i think if you tasted one before you'll appreciate that grilled parasite meal more; and similar to eel in real life, there's also parasites resided in eels, so the preparation is important
My thoughts: Giant Scorpion: Basically a less tasty lobster. Scorpions are eaten in some real- world cultures. While I haven't tried it myself, it's supposedly not much different from peeling a boiled crayfish, apart from removing the venomous stinger before cooking. Man- Eating Plants: In our world, most- if not all- carnivorous/parasitic plants are unedible, though sundew plants and mistletoes are sometimes used for medical purposes. The fruit of these fictional plants do resemble real- world tomatoes, paprikas, peas, and onions, so I suppose they're good enough to eat (though I do wonder why a plant that injects its seeds into one's skin would even need fruit to reproduce). Basilisk and Mandrake: As BreadHead said: Chicken and Eggs. Though the snake part could also be edible, as snakes are eaten in parts of China and Southeast Asia. According to a Finnish traveling show from the early 2000's called Madventures, snake meat resembles pike fish. As for the mandrakes, this plant (which does exist in real life, minus the screaming part) has been used for its medical properties for centuries, though I've never heard of it being used as food. Doubt it's even edible. Big Bat: Bats are used as food on some islands in the Pacific, as well as some remote locations of the Philippines and Indonesia. According to Madventures, the meat tastes like chicken, though the innards are pretty bad. Living Armor: Since these are molluscs living in rusty pieces of metal, I'd boil them first. It should kill all the bacteria and mold. If any mold remains, discard those. After that, the meat should be pretty good, no matter how you prepare it. Personally, I think deepfrying them after boiling would be perfect, also to make it more appealing for elves. Golem Garden Vegetables: Just vegetables. Nothing special. Freshly Picked Stewed Cabbage with Spicy Chicken and Stolen Bread: Once again, pretty basic. The bread may be spicy, but I don't mind spicy food. Also love how Senshi hypes up bread in this episode. That has to mean the bread is good, so I'll take your word for it! Treasure Bugs: First off, it's totally normal to want to sink your teeth in treasure. That's how people in the old days used to test whether gold coins were real or fake, as gold is soft. Second, Insects are a valuable source of protein to many people around the world, though most people either stir- fry or deepfry them. That's why I'd stir/deepfry the treasure bugs before eating, no matter how appealing they look raw. The only reason I'd eat literal treasure is if it was made of candy. Exorcism Sorbet: If the treasure bugs tasted like candy, this could be like any sorbet. But for all we know, this could taste like it was made from decaying corpses. We have no idea what ghosts would taste like, not to mention the moral dilemma of eating something that was once human or any other sentient being. Mimic: Basically a lobster/king crab. Same rules apply. Porridge: Pretty basic, in addition to the leftowers. Totally beats the traditional Finnish porridges I grew up with (except chocolate porridge). Parasitic worm: NOPE! Anything parasitic is a big no- no for me (with the exception of the parasite plant paprikas). No matter how good it tastes, I'm not eating anything that might cause a severe stomach- ache at best, or eat through my stomach like a xenomorph at worst! That's where I draw the line! Kelpie: Looks like a horse, and tastes like beef and pork? That's a definite must- try for me! Even if it was just horse meat, I'd still try it! Undine Stew With Tentacles and Kelpie: Basically elemental water, with horse meat that taste like beef and pork, with tentacles from some unknown creature living on the ceiling. In other words, A stew of beef/pork meat with squid. Sounds delicious! Tentacle Gnocchi/Pasta: Basically calamari pasta. Sounds delicious! Cutlets to Conquer the Red Dragon: Pretty much a royal meal the heroes need to fight the dragon. Anything goes IMO. Red Dragon Meal: I've never imagined eating a dragon (apart from a scene in the movie Quest for Camelot, where the main villain is served "dragon steak", and a recipe in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm which concists of four dragon flanks). But I'd imagine the meat being though, and resembling high- quality beef (like Black Angus). Though I have heard certain lizard species are hunted as food in some parts of the world, including Australia (mostly among the natives).
Props to this show for making me wanna eat treasure-looking bugs. Since Chilchuk thinks they taste like fish, I could imagine that they may be very similar to soft-shelled crab. They have a crispy to crunchy exterior, but meaty on the inside. The chewy necklace I imagine would be like mochi or ricecake. The jewels probably taste like some sort of jam, they appear very candy-like.
11:35 in thr USA and Europe most people dislike the idea of eating bugs. However people in asia eat bugs as part of their meals on a daily basis. There's even a name for the practice of eating bugs called entomophagy.
about wanting to eat the shinys rock candy is amazing for that feeling brake the chunks off the stick and play with the pieces like you would a shiny rock then eat it
respect to the video using the actual monsters as a factor but i would do this based on real life dish equivalent as well That way you can get the real flavor instead of assumption the ingredients like how some people do(example being marcille) , i have eaten most of these in real life. like the treasure bugs can be simillar to kohakutou and chocolate candy coins. Fruit tart is quiche and even the tree root plant is similar to a real life plant. Obviously oyster are Armour and parasite is eel. So besides what monsters and such are to...i recommend if we do more of these rankings, to go flavor profile and dishes similar to it. I like cooking foods from fiction alot, especially from foodwars and cartoons so this show really made me hungry.

I want to eat the treasure bugs so incredibly bad it almost hurts
Bro go cook up some shrimp and mantis i heard mantis is tasty and shrimp tastes good
Same. It's so crazy looking I HAVE to try it
Closest thing is chocolate gold coins 😂
i would argue with the assertion that mimic isn’t filling. visually it resembles hermit crab and crab is straight up mostly protein. that stuff fills you up Fast, three to four crab legs would probably be enough even if you spent a lot of energy, and those mimic legs look Huge
16:55 To be fair, he didn't make a SMALL mistake... He ate it raw!
Since the jewel bug crown was a hive full of eggs that needed to be scooped out, I think you can actually get the same taste and texture from honeycomb! This explains why the jewel bugs were part of the sorbet making process - jewel bug hives are sweet!
This makes the Jewel Bug Burgers more of a Sloppy Joe, which I think is perfect.
11:38 eating riches lmao 5yr old me relates. Choked on a number of earrings.
Glad I'm not the only one who feels like that
I'm SO glad you addressed how mouthwatering Senshi's bread looked.
I've had lots of frog legs. It's like a chicken wing!!! ❤
The texture is much chewier, the taste is yea, mini chicken legs
In Singapore, Frog Leg Porridge is pretty common! You're right to say it tastes a lot like chicken. It's like you've shrunken Chicken Drumlets into mini-sized versions of it. I used to be disgusted by the idea until my dad encouraged me to try it. Much to my surprise, now I just think of it as another version of chicken porridge :>
I love frog legs
Can confirm the chicken-like quality of frog legs. It’s definitely a different texture but the flavor is similar. I’d say they’re more rubbery than chicken, or just chewier? Very tasty though. Loved eating them as a kid.
The tart was more of a quiche than a pizza.
Dragon steak would probably taste bad, especially considering the way it was killed and how mature it was…thats some really tough, gamey, stress hormone filled meat right there. :/ It may be very nutritious though, and it’s enough meat to feed a whole town for months. It would probably be really good in a pot roast!
Yeah it’d def be best as a stew based meal ingredient!! Lots of slow cooking to tenderise it and whatnot
You sound like you have never eaten a reptile before
@@dartoney you know what, i have had gator, but I didn't even consider the fact it's lizard meat. The red, tough meat on the show is nothing like any gator I've eaten. That being said, maybe dragon is good fried? (as a southener what isnt)
@@steampunk-llama yah that's what I'm thinking! it looks way too tough on the show. and if i remember right they said the flavor was lackluster too, so maybe some heavy seasonings or a marinade--mmm maybe teriyaki dragon steak?
@@cryxtheace3129 Ooo yeah teriyaki would work really well, esp with some ginger/garlic/chilli added in to give it that extra oomph >:3c
I could even see a curry working out too, since the spices used in many of them should help bring out the natural dragon flavour, along with it being an easy bulk meal to help feed multiple people!!
Much to think about 🤔
Its so funny to me that the "Eating monsters is GROSS" vibes are so strong in your final ranking.
i think he would find a fast friend in marcille
The funger reference lmao!
Man, The algorithm has been pushing this anime onto me for a while now, and I’m not sure why?? On all apps basically!
Cause its good (and popular right now)
@@zanthe_
Welp! Guess I’m gonna have to give it a try after all… It took so much work to get it out of my tumblr feed but looks like it’s gonna come right back real soon lol
I feel like with the Undine stew with tentacles, the tentacles would have cooked down, creating a whole different flavor profile than if it was eaten raw. Sorta like if you cook garlic, it enhances the flavor of garlic but dies down the bitter taste to it compared to haven eaten it raw.
"Its like a very thick pizza"
So like a fritata essentially?
oh so that's the name, haven't tried one for a while
I was thinking a quiche or fritatta.
i just looked up fritata. why didnt tim hortons call it that instead of omelet bites?
@@MegaMegajennifer Because, being Canadian they're afraid of anything that isn't English or French.
@@pathfindersavant3988 no we're not
The parasitic worms look like eel meat are cooked like how the Japanese prepare eel (unagi).
This anime goes insane
I've been waiting for this since it was announced! I love dungeon meshi 🎉
I felt doxxed when you talked about the gems because you nailed my feeling on it
Some insight:
1) fruit tart is actually more like a quiche than a pizza
2) mandrake kikiage is extremely similar to indian pakora, which you’re right can be finicky to cook but is amazing done well
3) parasite mirrors eel meat here
I can imagine the treasure bugs taste a lot like crawdads and the creamy parts would have the texture of lobster roe. They'd probably taste really good steamed or boiled and with some butter.
I aint watched dungeon meshi yet, i will watch this video one day
Welp, looking forward to the day you do lol
Dat Scorpion Mushroom Hot Pot looks like Lobster Hot Pot
Speaking from personal experience frog tastes a lot better than chicken and has a very different texture. So if giant frogs tastes like there smaller counterparts I'd say that it's a 10/10.
I was so thrown off by the genshin bg music during the criteria part of the vid lmaooo
Bro I was eating my breakfast while watching this yet im still drooling.
Someone actually made the tart, and if I remember right it came out...not very good.
Turns out Pepper skins don't really work as effective crust.
Maybe some other fruit/vegetable skin?
@@flyingorange2482 potato may work do to starch
3:55 I’d say the fruit tart seems to resemble more of a quiche, a sort of savoury custard tart. Presumably it’s simply referred to as “fruit tart” because “quiche” doesn’t translate well to Japanese and back.
Something I noticed and really appreciate is what different dishes get made depending on who seems to be in charge? Laios seemingly has led two dishes, those being the barley with seafood (basically porridge) and the "fish and chips" style dish from later. And both seem much simpler and homier to him (presumably European) as opposed to Senshi's more complex tastes, etc
About the Golum meal
if you create the Golum core it is subserviant to you
as such it would actually be easyer to farm then normal as it takes care of itself and would be docile to you as the golem smith
Hey!!
Parasites aren’t FULLY off the table, there’s still some parasitic fungi that people do eat irl as a delicacy!
I REALLY want to try the bug coins. Fried fish-like snacks are amazing
I gotta say I’m mostly interested with the assorted bug snacks, mostly because I’ve been wanting to try real world insect dishes for some time.
Never thought I'd live to see the day a Nigerian can't handle spice... Love the video man!
There is an entire subreddit dedicated to pictures of objects that look like food but aren't. So wanting to eat the treasure bugs makes sense.
I mean, the parasite shouldn't be more questionable than any other meat (arguably less so due to it's more controlled environment). It's nowhere near the right size/species to infect a human so Laios getting a second-order parasite from it is more down to really, really bad luck (/rule of funny).
"Mom, what's that guy doing?"
"Stay away from him. He's a shiny rock addict."
Yes!!!!!! Delicious in dungeon food !!!!! It's all so delectable!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
11:21 you’re not the only one, when i was younger i used to take the charms of shoelaces and jewelry and just put it in my mouth during class so i could pay attention
that bread really does look so so good. all the food in this looks insanely good, even the stuff i wouldnt personally eat. (like the living armour)
can't wait for the human and worg bones rating hope its an A I was drooling when I saw it
XD
i imagine the parasite meat tasting like unagi...,, i love unagi so much, great video :3
MMMMM
I can't say I've had good experiences with crab legs, but they were cheap buffet fare, so....
My thoughts:
Giant Scorpion: Basically a less tasty lobster.
I miss delicious in dungeon thursdays
The crown gives me honeycomb vibes. I really want to eat it!
I agree with the treasure bug rating, my hungry ass could never be a geologist
I don’t care what it took to make it. I am eating all of this and I’m not stopping till end up like Falin
17:02 Watching how they cooked it I imagined the worm to taste more like eels tho lol
about wanting to eat the shinys rock candy is amazing for that feeling brake the chunks off the stick and play with the pieces like you would a shiny rock then eat it
Your problem is that you are afraid when it comes to new food.
No matter what you say, you are D-tier because you are afraid.
respect to the video using the actual monsters as a factor but i would do this based on real life dish equivalent as well
That way you can get the real flavor instead of assumption the ingredients like how some people do(example being marcille)
, i have eaten most of these in real life. like the treasure bugs can be simillar to kohakutou and chocolate candy coins.
Personally the man eating plant tart is closer to a quiche, being mostly egg and the savoury flavour
*puts penny in mouth* myea, pretty normal for me-*chokes*
Hey, were you using final fantasy 8 music for some of these? Because that overworld theme just hit's right. When you're talking about food on an adventure.
Personaly i would love to try either the dragon or the parasite most.
to make sense of this tierlist you need a Master's Degree on what the author likes or not, what's trendy at the moment and what the author feels about the trend.
I'll rate this tier list F tier
Fear and hunger x Dungeon meshi might look wierd at first but it honestly makes sense lol
So, you in chat: Who here wants to see an official Delicious in Dungeon cookbook? Besides me, that is.
Yes🥹
16:57 I legit wasn’t expecting the parasite to have a FREAKING PARASITE
there are actually a number of things that the monsters remind me of from a non-japanese perspective. the mandrake kakiage looks like akara…the living armor look like snails before they’re cooked. i wouldn’t be able to eat the tentacle pasta - i’ve had one too many thoughts about it looking like parasitic worms even before i read the manga 😨
Oh, fun fact about real giant squid: they are full of ammonium, so Dungeon Meshi hit it right on the nose. They *would* taste absolutely disgusting 😔
FEAR & HUNGER MENTIONED 🗣️ 📣 🔥🔥🔥
They taste DELICIOUS AND SWEET
Frog is actually quite tasty! Its generally somewhat fish-like but its good when done right
iirc the gem treasure bugs are described as having an 'almost fruity flavor' by the cast, so the sorbet would come out like a fruit sorbet.
15:09 Everything… looks nice. I wanna try every food in this anime…😅
I've actually tried eating monsters too in DnD, but my character didn't have cook's utensils proficiency so my DM just ruled it that I cooked it poorly and ended up being sick later on lol. (This was before I even heard of Dungeon Meshi, mind you… a year or two before the anime even got announced…)
When they ate the gems, it brought me back to like 2013 when I watched that one episode in MLP when Spike would eat gems, and I wanted to eat them too 😞
Came (don't be dirty lol) for the food, stayed for Marcille
BREAD! BREAD! BREAD! BREAD! BREAD! BREAD! BREAD! BREAD!
I admit, I thought the treasure bugs would taste like jolly ranchers!
Can't wait for an episode of Anime with Alvin over one of these meals
With both being anthropods, I'd assume the scorpion would taste closer to Crab or Lobster than any scaled fish sort of seafood
fear and hunger mentioned!!!
"Reminds me of the time someone ate a bat and the whole world got traumatized" I laughed harder than I should have at that.
Wait, I thought living armor mollusks creates their own iron shells to form the armor?
i would probably eat treasure bugs if i kept them coin side up or couldn’t see any insect parts because they look so tasty but the bug part really puts me off
nothing can explain how much i want to eat those stupid gems. they look so good
Wouldn't the man eating plant fruit tart be more akin to a quiche than a pizza?
i would kill for red dragon pizza. it looks so tasty good lord
Mm, the music you got in the background during criteria part... I'm shocked I recognized it, whatever mihoyo's doing, the art and music teams did awesome job.
wouldnt normal coins taste like armor? you said the metallic taste would throw you off
if this bread guy hasnt watched yakitate japan i'll be disappointed, its peak bread anime
My favorite is mimic it looks so yummy
