Domenico Scarlatti was born in the same year like Bach and Handel (1685). But he never got that famous like the other two composers. Nevertheless for me Scarlatti is one of the greatest. If I had to choose one piece of pianomusic from all, it wouldnt be Beethoven or Chopin, but this tune! It gave me such an impact like no piece before or after I heard in my life. "Grazie Signor Scarlatti for giving this masterpiece to the world."

I grew up with my dad plying classical music . I heard amongst various composers Scarlatti pieces which I loved subconsciously but never paid much attention to. I don’t recall this one K380. I discovered it in my own. instantly sparked joy in me. Now I thirst for it and hope one day to play it competently as I progress through my learning of piano despite my age , 61.

I played Chopin and Mozart, but always dreamed of playing Scarlatti, my absolute favorite! Someday, I hope I will.

Scarlatti, Bach and Handel all have unique perspectives on music. Almost every Baroque composer of the time has at least something small to add. Even Scarlatti's own father composed many wonderful pieces of music.

This truly is one of the finest performances of this now famous sonata. Thank you Mr. Debargue for observing Scarlatti's tempo marking of "commodo" ("walking" tempo). So many performers attack this piece as if they were on their way to a fire and pound it out on the keyboard. To me undoubtedly Scarlatti intended this to be a very tender piece and you have evoked that spirit so wonderfully!

Maybe, but I like it more played slightly faster, it sounds more joyful. This is a great performance, anyway

I love the subtlety and delicateness in the way you play this beautiful piece . It allows me for one to feel the effects of this composition in frankly a deeper way than when played more robustly as I have heard by other artists.

I hope he gives us more . A remarkable musician in a world full of "just fingers" as Horowitz used to say ! He really has the right spirit for Scarlatti . Oh please I hope he hasrecorded others Maria Pires recently started playing one that after 45 years of living and thinking I 'd heard all the bst of the Scarlatti Sonatas there came this . Horowitz ,Michelangeli,Gilels, only Koopman and the harpsichordists who record entire sets seemed to even know of its existence but I think it would be very popular with today's audiences ! Argerich and Pires have both declined to record all Scarlatti albums . DeLarrocha gave us fabulous Soler . One wonders how such things can be overlooked but then again how much of us hear really wonderful stuff from Before Bach. Gould said he loved Byrd .I've yet to find anything in all the many galliards by him and others . Maybe now I'm ready ! Off to fing Bryd and Dowland and others !

This unbelievably beautiful sonata for clavicembalo by Domenico Scarlatti was used by Ingmar Bergman for his baroque and satirical movie "Djávulens Öga" (The Devil's Eye) from 1959. The story was that the devil had a stye in his eye, produced by the virginity of a maiden in earth. To end this problem, the devil sends Don Juan, one of his prisoners in hell, to the earth to end this unacceptable state of affairs. The movie was not well received at the time, but is a masterwork of intelligence, humor and a demonstration f the disappearance of the power of the devil (and the other other guy up there) to really influence human life.
