  • Decided to save some money and swap out my car’s cabin air filter myself. This is on a 2018 Hyundai Elantra but most cabin air filters are super easy to change. Check it out! Filter I used is below.

Kudo’s to Hyundai. They really have made it very very easy. Both the engine and cabin filters are extremely easy. Every other car manufacturer requires tools and 30 plus minutes of labor.

They are easy to change and the only other one I found easier was my friend's Mazda 3 but other than that yes, they do take longer.

It is strange but somehow soothing that everyone has the same stuff (crap, junk etc.) in their gloveboxes.

FYI: The 2.0L and the 1.6L turbo engine (Sport or N-Line) use the same cabin air filter. In Canada that part is a whopping $37 from the dealership and at Part Source it is $22. The dealership was going to charge me $70 to change that cabin air filter!! Also when you remove the filter take it out smooth and slow to prevent any possible dry leaves or debris falling in above the fan that is below the filter position. The car will obviously be off and you can still reach into the area above the fan to retrieve anything that fell down there. The filter should also have an arrow that points down when you put in the new filter. Good video to demonstrate the procedure!!

Great video. As others have pointed out, just make sure that when you put the new filter, the flow arrow is pointing in the right direction. I am not even sure if you installed yours correctly.

Thanks for the video. Hyundai definitely made it easy. It is a pain in the butt to replace it in my Infiniti.

One of my screws to open it is not turning. How do I get it out?

So was there an up arrow or an air flow arrow on one edge of the new filter and did you point it up or down?

Yep! Should have shown that. Arrow should point down - from my understanding the fan is below the filter and it sucks the air down
