- Can I improve my tipping in just 7 days? I made myself a challenge to find out.
I bought this $4,000 ball machine (don't worry I'm using it for tennis too) to see if I could finally learn how to tip pucks. It's something I've never practiced and, to put it frankly, I suck at. Watch to find out how the 7-day challenge went, and learn my Top 3 "Keys" to tip pucks better.

it's actually a 157.14% increase in balls hit, 55% improvement would be 11 total balls hit

we put a variation on the sauce toss game that would def help. Basically, you play normal sauce toss rules except you add the ability to score extra points for in air tips by teammate into the net. works mint for the tip game, redirecting the puck to a specific small target get the extra feels in.

Excellent video, as always - straightforward with easy instructions. Very relevant training for any player to remember that getting a) pucks to the net, b) to get in front of the net to create much more scoring opportunities. Kids; I'm the old dog here (48 years old) but even I'm learning from this video. Don’t move head, only eyes. Keep sight on the puck in a moment it will begin to fly and prevent goalie to see the puck at that moment to limit his preparation/reaction time. Pro Tip - keep stick blade in sight with puck projectile/trajectory, to correct blade position.

Where do you get the ball machine???
I'd recommend a cheaper machine or getting a friend/family member to shoot balls or pucks for you if you're looking for a budget friendly option! But if you really want this one just search "Spinfire Pro 2" on Google.

Honestly, you learned the flight path of the machine. You most likely could have held your blade in 1 Sq foot and hit many without moving.
Variable speeds and angles would be more accurate to real life use case.

I practice tipping with my dad and he shoots lightly at first then I get a hang of it

Or more general - there was a lengthy interview by Swedish hockey legend Håkan Loob (in English) where he said something along these lines:
- don't make young kids only focus on ice hockey, have them practise more sports, such as table tennis for fast hand-eye coordination, football (soccer) for side-to-side dynamics and such.
I myself was always a quick but small kid - got hit so much (in foul ways) until I was overdoing the range I took when passing defenders, in an effort to solve this I started practicing Muay thai (thai/kickboxing) - it helped me in more ways than I had thought of with toughness and upper body strength as the main points, but with the added side effect of being more at ease in general day-to-day life :-)
Yeah, great for hand/eye coordination…but try that again with heavy vulcanized pucks!

the problem with this is that you stand at the same spot and the machine shoots balls at the same direction all the time, so you have built a muscle memory for that spot... but it's not allways the same spot during a game
Definitely not a 55% improvement.
I'm not going to do the calculation but it's more like 150%.
