Okay dudes. I have watched approximately 15 videos trying to properly understand the mechanics of the snapshot. In the first minute, you guys answered all of my questions and more. I don’t know why I ever watch anyone else’s channel. You guys rock!
Pulling the top hand in and down 😮 I wish someone had told me that sooner. That downward pull adds sooo much snap. Thank you! Feels like a lightbulb moment.
I've literally checked all snap shot videos on the internet to understand how, what and why. To get the technique as good as possible.. This is mind-blowing information you are sharing. Helpful as hell! Keep doing your thing! Best regards from Sweden
Thanks!! One of the best snap shot videos I've ever seen!!! We always have something to improve, and for me, I wanna master the snap, and those tips will help a lot.
This is an excellent video! I'm definitely guilty of focusing mostly on my bottom hand and making sure I'm getting maximum flex on the stick rather than what my top hand is doing. Also you're right at the end of the video, your programs are great! The Mens League Domination program is excellent, I put on quite a few pounds of muscle by sticking to it over covid, honestly it made a big difference. Cheers!
Great vid! Lots of info jammed in there. I’ve watched it twice and have it saved for my return to the ice after a broken finger. Can’t wait!!! I’m 58 and my next season will be my 4th year AND I’M JUST GETTING STARTED!!!
this is one of the best technique tips i've ever seen. been playing for 30 years and have a good shot, but the top hand tip is next level. you can actually ease up a bit on bottom hand power and think about accuracy and still get major heat but with greater accuracy. brilliant.
Really good tutorial! As a u14 hockey player, shooting is really important for me, and this tutorial highlights everything needed to train my shots! Thanks 💯💯
I really feel like improving my game this summer and one of the things I needed to improve was my shot watching this video made me realize that I was so worried about flexing my stick downwards that I never even realized that I needed to do the proper weight exchange and that I wasn’t bringing that top hand back towards me while shooting but thx to this vid I’m going to start doing that
First of all; I have no idea how I missed this video - my alert notification was on but I had to reset it to "all" notifications. Anyways, on point as usual. You don't click-bait and so educational as well. Thanks for your effort and content man - underrated hockey channel for those wanting to learn! Maybe a recommendation for your next video (more for the kids) is how to get their slapshot harder, and how to raise that puck when taking that slapshot...very low chance to actually work in a game format but, who doesn't dream about a clapper top shelf goal?!!
As others noted, this is the best snap shot training video I’ve seen. Great breakdowns, tips and exercises. Which part of the blade do you strike puck with? In your video, looks like middle. Some coaches/players fire it off the toe. Thanks!
Thanks, glad it helped! And I used to go more towards the middle, but I've been trying to shoot a bit more off my toe lately as I find I get off a better shot when it's a bit closer to the toe. I'd have to analyze more video to really see where it's coming off.
@@hockeytrainingis there a follow up video where you analyze this? If toe or middle? Also what curve are u using? And does that impact where you position the puck?
This is an outstanding breakdown and execution of a the Snap Shot! One minor recommendation, briefly address the positioning and placement of your lower hand on the stick shaft. Again, this is a GREAT Instructional Video, so, please don't look at my recommendation as any form of criticism.
It could be where the puck leaves your blade depending on your curve or when you pull the puck in to shoot it could be coming in not flat and causing it to flip when you make contact. I'd have to see a video!
It's all about that top hand! There's no swing or body rotation like a slapper so almost all the energy comes from whipping the top hand. My shot stunk because I followed way too much advice focused on loading the stick with the bottom hand 😞
Bend your knees and keep your stick low, if your stick is high its gonna go over the net and when shooting aim with your toe of the blade where you want it to go
The technique pointers are great! It’s too bad tho that none of these hockey channels provide any good strength training advice, just a shopping list of exercises with no programming advice, no means of progression, heck not even a recommended set and rep scheme.
Can the shooting drills on sport shoes transferable to the skills on ice? I found the feeling is quite different as the skates on ice are not stable enough to gain the power from the feet to upper body. Thanks for the video, would try it anyway as ice time here is too expensive.
It's a little different, but if you aren't stable on the ice I would suggest working on your ankle and hip stability. You should feel very stable on the ice when gliding.
I’ve been working on the snapshot a lot recently and trying to shoot it like Phil Kessel. After some months working on it, I have noticed that it has improved but i can't get a thing right like Kessel does. After he releases a shot from his inside leg, he gets his top hand so it ends up on the bottom of the logo on the jersey, and i really want to get that thing right. Anyone got tips?
Out of hockey for 22 yrs. 43 now. Can't get used to new sticks that weigh nothing. Snap shot was shit. Used to break glass with it. Add 10 mph.??? Try I added 50+ probably after watching this,...
I really don't get the whole "pushing the puck forward" before you shoot deal. Why exactly is that necessary? When I shoot the puck never leaves my blade and I have no issues putting the hands in front of my body. Just trying to understand because I don't really understand what exactly that is supposed to do mechanically.
Its supposed to be a snap shot, ur describing a wrist shot, you put the puck infront so when you flex the stick snaps and slaps the puck like a slapshot which creates the hard shot

It was at this very moment, I truly realized, that I am the muffin man :(
Seriously. It took me literally years to figure this out myself. All these shooting tutorials and so few of them emphasise this.
That’s because coaches didn’t have you tube at the time
The explanations how the exercises contribute to the shooting are incredibly good.

Thanks Brad... glad you're enjoying the training program 💪🏻
Agreed Brad... I feel like flex is the tough part to get the feel across to a younger player. This is a great snapper video.
same man, this video was gold
Best video I’ve seen on this. I remember searching for this video 9 years ago and there wasn’t much info out there. Thanks lots!
Great vid! Lots of info jammed in there. I’ve watched it twice and have it saved for my return to the ice after a broken finger. Can’t wait!!!
I’m 58 and my next season will be my 4th year AND I’M JUST GETTING STARTED!!!
Glad it helped!
I really like the decomposition of the technique in different exercises
Dude, that one was tremendous!
It is the best video on the matter I have ever seen!
Really sharp and prompt!
Respect 👍🏻
Thanks, glad you liked it 👍🏻
Awesome gonna try this in Maui playing in-line hockey 😎🤙🏼

I love how you started with an overview. Good info, well organized.
Really good tutorial!

Wow sir we can lerarn many things from you thanks for any thing❤️
Wow I never seen a video so detailed about the wrist shots and snap shots before. Good stuff thanks!!!
Glad it was helpful!
great stuff. super info dense, really well structured, bottom line(s) up front but plenty of reason to keep watching. kudos
Excellent breakdown of snapshot! You offer great insight for proper technique and show great video angles.

This is a great comprehensive video. Thanks for the upload, new subscriber.
Excellent video. Thank you so much!
Do you think you could do a similar one on the wrist shot?

Appreciate the kind words and great recommendation!
Great video... love the break down.
Dude crazy video this helped me so much. Thanks a lot
Absolute beauty of an explanation. Cheers
Very well done ✅
Awesome advice!!! I was trying to figure out how to generate more power with technique but couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong.
Very detailed and well explained.
Fantastic training videos. Love all your post-production FX and video examples. Great, quick paced, explanation. Awesome work!
Thanks Doctor!
Hey, at 5:58 ... what's the name of that band system you have? Looks like a rail and such? Looks legit, would like to buy one.
Ancore cable system (use the code HOCKEY for 10% OFF)
@@hockeytraining Perfect, thank you Sir!
Another sick video! This will help!
great video, but as usual)))))) could you clarify, please, how often should I do it these workout (1 per week, 2 per week etc...)? thank' s a lot
It will depend on the programming. Sign up for a program at www.hockeytraining.com/program
Thank you this helped a lot 🔥🔥🔥
What a amazing video man! Thanks 100 times 👍
This is a great video and it helped me out

Great video, I use a snap shot 95% of the time. Just a great way to get off a quick shot in stride.
Very useful for my 7 years old boy. Thanks for the tips! Keep the good work! Do you organize hockey camps in Europe?
Not yet. Possibly in the future!
WHY DIDNT I KNOW ABOUT THIS CHANNEL EARLIER😭
That is very helpful
Great vid
Man i wish i had videos like this when i was starting to play in the 80s.
Great explanation!
Glad it was helpful!
You should make a video on the wrist shot.
Great video!
Focusing on the top hand during a shot is a game changer, at least for a hockey newbie like myself
Love the vids
I wish there was videos like this 15+ years ago 😄
awesome!! Thank you.
Excellent, love the exercise tips as well
Hey coach do you know why sometimes to puck flips when I shoot because I feel like when that happens it loses power
It could be where the puck leaves your blade depending on your curve or when you pull the puck in to shoot it could be coming in not flat and causing it to flip when you make contact. I'd have to see a video!
The video is great and all but the thing is that i dont have that exercise gear.
maybe if you can do a video when you use suff you have at home.
We have lots of bodyweight only training in our app Hockey Training TV
Great video for showing all the things to do with a great snapshot and great work out to do
I fell like I’d slip when I put a lot of pressure what should I do
It's all about that top hand! There's no swing or body rotation like a slapper so almost all the energy comes from whipping the top hand. My shot stunk because I followed way too much advice focused on loading the stick with the bottom hand 😞
Nice video
this is a good video
My wrist shot is still hot garbage but these made my snapshot pretty ok. #2 was totally a game changer. And practice, 75 shots a day.
Can we get one for goalies?
I'm curious, what flex do you use?
85 flex
I keep ripping pucks over the net any ideas what im doing wrong?
Bend your knees and keep your stick low, if your stick is high its gonna go over the net and when shooting aim with your toe of the blade where you want it to go
finally the video i needed, no more muffins for me
Just back playing again after about 8 or so year, my snapshot still quick and has some zip, but the puck seems to flutter
Any tips
It may be your curve and where you're making contact with the puck on the blade.
I’m 12 years old and i need to get better cardio do you have any workouts and reps
That's what we do! Check out our app "Hockey Training TV"

Check out our past video, we have a lot on the topic. Also much more on our website too.

Someone explain how matthews isnt a wrister. He's pulling it in and firing it while pushing it...vs the have puck 2 inches in front in demo.
u can get more power if u think less about the hands and more about the hips and shoulders rotating

Is it supposed To feel awkward shooting with your hands out in front at first
Changing your habits will always feel a little awkward at first, but, that's what practice is for. You'll get it soon and be better because of it 👍
@@hockeytraining thanks coach
Thanks :-)
toe drag release
The secret is hard work
Why can I shoot better on tiles but I lose balance when i snapshot on the ice.
Great video but first at all you need more flexibile Stick and get power from stick let stick do work 😊
Someone really likes Toronto
I'm a Leafs fan... but how could anyone not admire Matthews' shot
Trade Marner for Kessel
Marner is nasty
i dont really use a "wrist shot" anymore, I will pull it back like a wrist shot but snap it like a snapshot

3:05 Just use a 5 meter stick. Quick maths x)
learn how to flex your stick, get good balance, and get a lot of ice time. this is not an easy shot you can master quickly

Think the terminology for this has been changed to a wrist shot. The old “wrist” shot is now a drag shot.
